Hey everyone! Welcome to my Harvard College decision reaction video!
It's already been a week since I was accepted into Harvard University, one of the most prestigious universities in the nation. However, even after all this time, I still haven't been able to fully process what just happened. My whole life I dreamt of this moment along with my parents who always pushed me to work hard for this dream. I applied to Harvard not thinking too much of it because I knew my chances were extremely slim even if I had worked very hard for it (Harvard has an acceptance rate of 4.7% meaning out of 100 students only 5 get accepted). The day that my family and I gathered in front of my computer to open my admissions decision letter on December 17, we all did not expect to see the bolded word "Congratulations!" followed by the big crimson banner with the phrase "Welcome to Harvard!" on my screen. We didn't know how else to react but to scream with joy and with tears in our eyes when that's exactly what appeared on my screen. It is a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life.
It has always been my dream to go to Harvard. Not only because it’s one of the best schools in the nation, but also because I knew that it would open many doors for me and my family. It would allow me to finally provide myself and my family with a better quality of life. I knew this was a far-fetched dream, but that’s exactly why I worked hard, and even if I didn’t get in I knew that I would only benefit from that. But now, with this special opportunity, I can finally say that I am one step closer to making my dream come true and give my family the life they deserve.
Obviously, I would not have been able to achieve this goal on my own. First, of course, I thank my all-powerful God because he brought this blessing upon me and my family. Next, I want to thank my mom because, regardless of being a single mother of four kids, she prevailed through the hardest of times and continued to give me the love and support I needed to continue with my education while also inspiring me to always dream big. I also want to thank my dad because ever since a young age, he always pushed me to excel in everything I do, especially when it came to school. Thanks to him I learned to work hard for my goals no matter who or what tried to bring me down or stop me from reaching those goals. I also want to thank my mentors and teachers who guided me and helped me through the application process because without them I would have been lost in the chaos of applying to college.
I would also like to thank every single one of you who have shown me love and support over the past few days. The support I have received over the past week has been unbelievable. You all have made this already incredible experience even better and I could not ask for better friends and family than you all. I can't wait to bring you all along with me on this new journey.
