Harvest is sooo close! Gotta actually get a corn head bought first though. Next weekend I'm going to try and starting cutting some beans, until then there's still a lot to get ready. It feels un-real to actually be so close to harvesting my first crop. Spent way too many hours dreaming of Harvest. A lot of guys in the area are surprised by how dry the corn and beans are. I would assume by next weekend, the beans should be a go!

Definitely engage separator and feeder house at low idle, it will lug the engine but won't kill it, it's pretty much a must

Little advice, engage separator and header at low idle. It’s easier on the belts and other components, and then idle up.

Paulson Farms, yep, its especially hard on things to engage the separator at a high idle, I've always engaged both the separator and head at low idle. I had a worthless piece of crap uncle who would engage the separator and head at full throttle, and he would do it while moving, and it would just literally stop the combine in its tracks for a second. It would always piss me off as it did my grampa, but the jackass wouldn't listen.

If the combine is equiped for autosteer, pay for the row sense... in down corn it works amazing and reduces fatigue and stress on the operator!!

I see a lot of people talking about the header, so I guess I’ll give a tip too. The handle you got on your fuel tank is for def. (Hanse the blue handle) Def handles are smaller then fuel handles and pump less at a slower rate. So if you’d like to fill equipment up get a green handled nozzle and I bet you can fill things quicker!

It’s gonna sound like it almost stalls out but it won’t. Turn both the separator and feeder house on at low idle. Turning them on is just asking to throw the feeder house chain into the combine. Just from experience anyway.
@coltontollefsrud7693
@coltontollefsrud7693 2 жыл бұрын
I have done this before... I had to stop the header because I picked up a steel t post and when i got back in the combine I hit the full throttle because I was trying to beat snow and I engaged the feeder house at full throttle. The chain became 3 pieces and we had to rent a different combine to finish the season because we had to completely drop the entire feeder house to fix it...

It's interesting how the northern farmers seem to start harvesting beans before corn and switch back and forth between the two along the way. Here in Louisiana corn is harvested before beans and is usually finished before switching to beans.

Way to go Grant! Watching that header come up off the trailer shows the power of the operation you have assembled! I enjoy your introspection. To move from wishing to strong, enduring action is a major change of maturing. Yes, take your time and allow the comparison to sink in. Then I know you are back to being in the moment. Grant I got to say from watching you play farming simulator and on the computer and to watch u grow the KZfaq channel about your real life farm. Has better a great opportunity for me to enjoy farming. We use to own a dairy farm and the government pretty much running us in the ground cause we was little. Now I'm a Wildland firefighter but I love watching a young man like yourself take it by the horns and doing a great job man. Keep up the great work cause laying in my tent at night on fires gives me something good to watch but to see the younger generation coming up and looking at u for the roll model in farming. Please keep up the great work brother.

Don’t know if you’ve read what the 1,2,3 buttons are but you can set them to the header height you want. Like corn I personally use 1 as all the way up and 2 as cutting height. When in the beans I set 2 to be about 2” off the ground and 3 as on the ground cause if you don’t it will slam the header on the ground and eventually wreck the header.

Looks like everything went good connecting the combine and stuff Grant. Just be sure to engage the separator and feederhouse at low idle. It’ll seem like it bogs it down a lot but it’s designed to do that. If it almost stalls it, it should have a safety of some sort on it that will shut the separator and feederhouse off for say if they were plugged or something. Love the videos!

Spence should replace the fuel handle because that’s a def handle. Get a fuel or diesel handle and it will be bigger and you can fill faster. Also you went and put concrete in the whole shed you could almost go the extra step and just make the whole thing a heated shop. Just my two cents.

In my area of NC corn dries at 1/2 a point per day in decent weather. Rain can slow it down but that is usually a good estimate. So at 30% and you need it down to 15% If you are not using a drier then 30%-15%=15% dry down. 15%x1/2point per day is 30 days plus any bad weather days till harvest. Also go ahead and buy a box of fiberglass auger fingers for your bean head. You will need them.
