Will there be enough food for the winter? We'll have to "dig in" and see 😉
Heavy Duty Wiss Scissors: amzn.to/3DwXXxG
Root Cellaring book: amzn.to/3S1gYwq
Digging Fork (not the exact one we have, but it's a brand I trust): amzn.to/3xwT7N8
Tea Infuser (these things are the bomb!): amzn.to/3RP5CvV
Western Style Dog Collar: amzn.to/3dmaOYU
Square Tomato Cages: I got mine from a local greenhouse, so I can't give you an exact link. But here's a very similar one: amzn.to/3Zp1zu7 These are Made in USA, and look heavy duty. I wouldn't want the flimsy ones they sell at places like Tractor Supply.
(I'm a "quality tool" kind of guy, and I'll only ever recommend something that I would want for myself. If you make a purchase through a link posted here I may receive a small affiliate commission, but at no extra cost to you. It helps to make this channel a reality!)

You can store carrots in damp sand. Using a tote drill 1/8th holes in bottom and lid. Now put in a layer of fine sandbox sand and get it damp. Next put in a layer of carrots then repeat. Keep in a cool dark area . They will last a long time and keep their crunch. I do enjoy watching your videos. Most enjoyable as well as educational.

You guys are so cute together! One tip I recently found out about carrot storage, wrap them in a cotton towel and place in a zip lock or taped bag. The cotton whicks the moisture from the carrots and they keep even longer 😉

The sweet potatoes that stayed whole were the Beauregards, the ones that split were the Georgia Jets. Georgia jet sweet potatoes are very early maturing, often get really big but notorious for splitting when it rains and limited shelf life people also sometimes say they "cook up mushy"

Cows love sweet potatoes. Too bad you don't have a pig because that would really go over well too.Fresh sweet potatoes can substitute for at about one-half of the grain fed to cattle. Wet potatoes or dried potato meal may be used as cattle feed up to about 20 to 25 percent of the diet on a dry matter basis. Sweet potatoes and their processing wastes can be ensiled for use as a cattle feed.

I often use carrot tops in soups, as a replacement for parsley. They are in the same family as parsley, celery, celeriac, and cilantro. There's a few others in there too, that can be swapped out with each other. Also celery tops are very nutritious, so long as they haven't been raised using pesticides. @@morethanfarmers

Dunno if anyone has mentioned...the damage on sweet potatoes is from root knot nematodes, your carrots also have nodules on them Theyre a bugger to get rid of once in then garden, companion planting, soil solarisation planting non taget crops, fallowing and green manures are the control options.

I have learned that timing is way better for sweet potatoes. I time mine between 100 and 120 days. Plus i plant them in containers. Easier to harvest by just tipping over the container. I am disabled not lazy lol so the container method allows me to grow them and harvest them myself without depending on someone else who has a busy schedule. Might be worth a try. Side project trial maybe. Lol.

@@morethanfarmers oh thank you😊 I am very happy to have a little farm here in Austria too. We grow sonecegetables but this year sumner was very rainy and I was not that motivated so the harvest is very little but it is always beautiful to grow some own food😊🤠
