Next time you use the scale, put the empty crate on and press the Tare button. That will set the scale to zero and you just swap full crates for the empty. No math needed.

Kimchi is SO good Laura! It’s a Korean dish - fermented cabbage. My favorite is cucumber kimchi because it’s a little less spicy and has a tiny bit of sweetness almost. Highly recommend trying it on top of rice as a little side dish to some bulgogi (thin marinated beef barbecue).

@@ritasicari7518 i don't think any food bank has the resources to refrigerate that much produce, no? She'd be better off trying to see if local restaurants can take it (barring board of health barriers). It's just so difficult to be charitable with produce. I think what she did is the most hassle-free way. Edited because least and most don't mean the same thing. 😀

Lol, that would be fun! I get so much joy when able to give to others! Have a feeling that some of the people who were taking a few heads were going to be preserving some sauerkraut for later. I have never been a fan of it. But, a lot of people like it especially cooked & simmered with a long Polish sausage. Growing up, I remember my mom having one of my brothers build large square structures made of thin wood & window screen material to cover the cabbage. She would get aggravated over the white butterflies lol. Don't know if that would help with aphids or not. I only remember her ranting about the butterflies. I was under 10 yrs old, and didn't quite understand why she didn't like the beautiful butterflies. hahahaha!

Misty eyed watching you and your mama out in your own garden harvesting. Do you know what a blessing it is to see that kind of Mother/Daughter love and bond? Please tell your mama thank you for the gift of you Laura.

You should try sauted cabbage with bacon. Or you can make stuffed cabbage rolls. There are lots of really great cabbage recipes!

So wonderful to watch the whole process. So what do you do with the rest of the plant? Do you pull it out? Can you feed them to your chickens? Do you leave the ones with the aphids in the garden? Can you feed those to the chickens? 🐓🥬🐔

She can feed it to the chickens, compost it or just toss it directly into her dumpster (or, in her town, burn it). Speaking of which, we should probably ask Aaron if he's started the composting system.

I was wondering the same thing, if they’ll grow again as lettuce do if left in the ground. Thanks for asking.

@@missbiggs9437 these cabbage are a one and done. I don't know of any varieties that continue to produce after the first harvest.

@@NanaPelletier OK, thanks for the info; I’ve never grown cabbages or anything related to it and wasn’t sure why they cut out the heads and then left the plant in the ground; they could’ve pulled the entire plant and then cut the heads - maybe she didn’t want to leave the bed empty. Thanks for explaining. Have a great day! 😊

@@missbiggs9437 you're welcome. I'm sure she cleaned it all up but just didn't show us. She feeds all the extra scraps to her chickens usually. I don't care for cabbage much, but it looks like a fun plant to grow.

I got so excited when you went behind the barn. I was hoping for a glimpse of the big planters with the hops and the espalier pear. It’s so fun to see you and your mom together, you have a lovely relationship.
