At Warter Priory Estate we plant large areas of maize to serve as cover crop and feed for our game birds. At the end of the shooting season we either combine or top these maize crops, depending on their condition, before ploughing and replanting for the following year.
Our friends from M & D Kemp & Sons were kind enough to bring their Case 5088 Axial-Flow combine with their Case 6 Row header to help us with the maize that was worth combining. It is worth noting that the yield from this crop is particularly low, but any corn we do recover is dried and used as feed the following season.
Warter Priory is a world class farming operation set in the heart of East Yorkshire amidst 12,000 acres. At Warter, we pride ourselves on our reputation for quality and efficient farming. The main crops we focus on growing are wheat, barley and oilseed rape. We also grow peas in partnership with Birds Eye and some of our land is used for growing potatoes.
