***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out new videos every week! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

To save time on your cilantro, you can put it in a zip lock bag, pack it down very tight to the bottom of the bag then roll. Freeze that making a cilantro log. It is very easy to remove, slice of a section and return rest to the freezer.

You might consider including the tender stems of the cilantro and spinach in your processing...I know many Mexican recipes say to use the stems of cilantro as long as they aren't woody, and spinach stems are lovely!

Good tasting Kale: cut the leafs in smaller pieces and put them in the freezer for a while. It changes the taste of kale. You can prepare it like spinach. In Germany, Kale gets harvested after the first frost. It takes out the bitterness and makes it a bit sweeter. Cooked in a slow cooker with some smoked meat and served with potatoes. Delicious ❤

So true. Love fresh spinach salads or in an omlett. Have a pot of spinach growing on my front porch. I can only garden in pots on my front and back porches as I am a handi-cappped person.

Good morning and Happy Memorial day weekend! Thank you to all that served to keep us safe. Great harvest Sarah! Just harvested some of my early new potatoes, basil is growing crazy, and celery is almost ready to harvest. Lots of huge tomatoes on, and my sweet peppers and jalapenos I bought from you are doing great and flowering! Blessings, Texas Deb 😁

My Dad raised pigs when I was a kid. We cut them between 2 & 3 months. He had me straddle the piglet and pull their back legs up against their belly. Dad used a single side razor blade, he slit the scrotum over each testicle, popped out the testicle and pull it out, then he used that blue powder that clots and sprayed it into the scrotum sack. They always did well.

About 30 years ago, my wife and I were at a Mom and Pop cafe. I had a side of spinach with my chicken fried steak and behold, as I was about to take a bite of the spinach, on my fork starring right at me was about a 2” grasshopper. Since that day, I have always preferred spinach on someone else’s plate.

HELPFUL TIP (Hopefully) For filling the ice cube trays, may i offer a suggestion? Since the holes are about the size of a tbsp anyway, and if absolute measurement isn't a big issue. Could you - lay tray on counter on top of foil to catch any spills - use a large measuring cup to pour the mixture generally across - use a sterilized plastic squeegee to move the mix into holes evenly and clean up the edges that create the holes. - maybe use a wet paper towel for a quick wipe across top to remove any finer material left on top of edges. It should be much faster than doing each hole individually. But if you want it to be a more precise measurement probably not. But this seems like a quick fix to save time and effort. Squeegee is what is used to lay stripes on a car, basically looks like a credit card. It makes the film go flush against the surface.

I've never been a kale lover either, until my daughter made some kale chips. OMG! Remove the leaves from the stem and just tear into pieces about 2" in diameter. Sprinkle with the oil of your choice and some Italian seasoning and spread the kale pieces out on a cookie sheet. Bake for about 20 to 30 minutes at 350. When they start to easily break and are not wet or floppy, take them out of the oven and serve immediately. I was very reluctant to try them, but didn't want to hurt my daughter's feeling. It's the only way I eat kale now.

The young tender leaves of kale are so good raw cut up in salads, it doesn't have a strong taste and I cut them in thin strips and even cut up the stems, a nice crunch like celery that is better. The outer leaves I give to the chickens because I like eggs better than the older leaves. 😊😊
