About Harvey's guest:
Today’s guest, Chris Lemmon, an actor, producer and author who’s appeared in many movies including “Airport ‘77”, “Seems Like Old Times”, “Uncommon Valor”, “Swing Shift”, “Cannonball Run 2”, “Weekend Warrior”, “Lena’s Holiday”, “Roe vs Wade”, and 2 very special movies, “That’s Life” and “Dad”, in which he appeared with his legendary father, 2-time Academy Award winner Jack Lemmon, who’s been immortalized in movies like “Mr. Roberts”, “Save the Tiger”, “The Apartment”, “Irma LaDouce”, “The Odd Couple”, “The China Syndrome”, “Glengarry Glen Ross”, and of course, the greatest comedy film of all time, “Some Like it Hot”.
In fact, our guest portrayed his father in a re-enactment of his time on the set of “Some Like it Hot”, in the Marilyn Monroe biopic, “Blonde”.
On television, our guest has brought us many memorable roles including “Checko” in “Brothers and Sisters”, “Richard Philips” in “Duet” and “Open House”, “Jeff Cameron” in “Knots Landing”, and “Martin Brubaker”, better known as “Bru”, in “Thunder in Paradise”. On the stage, he’s starred in “Barefoot in the Park”, “Shay”, “Love Letters”, and his highly acclaimed one-man show “Twist of Lemmon”, based on his best selling, highly compelling and heartwarming 2006 memoir entitled, “A Twist of Lemmon: A Tribute to my Father”.
He also wrote, produced and hosted the wonderful documentary film, “Magic Time”, which is all about the brilliant artistry of Jack Lemmon.

I read Chris Lemmon's first book, and it was heartbreaking at times. I had the impression that Jack Lemmon's marriage to Felicia Farr was toxic and very destructive, with Chris experiencing some pretty brutal treatment, emotionally. I give him a lot of credit for forgiving his dad and keeping the door open to their relationship.

You are correct. He went through hell and suffered a lot of emotional pain. He emerged from that experience remarkably forgiving and compassionate. I admire him enormously.

I listened to this interview & thought that Chris is such a strong, vibrant, intelligent, humorous, introspective human being & I'm sure his father could see that too. His father may not have left him money but left him qualities which he'll pass on to his own children. I'll look for Chris's book. A wonderful interview. Thank you for sharing!

I always liked Chris Lemmon. I didn't know he continued to make films. It is wonderful to hear him say he believes in frequencies, vibrations and so forth. I always thought Chris had a tremendous amount of love, universal love, that just emanates. pours out from him, perhaps because he accepted the terms of his father's way of having a relationship with him. He accepted and that was that. But he gifts us with the spirit of love. Bless you, Chris. You got it all right. I, too, have been diagnosed with a small hiatal hernia. Listened to this twice. I agree that perhaps your emotions were twisted in your trying to breathe free and somehow your body obliged you. As we age we pretty much just try to figure out why we've manifested the dream of our issues without being aware of how to make a lot of it better. Judge Brownstone, you are a wonderful man, and I just realized you are broadcasting from the UK.

So wonderful to hear Chris in this interview. His voice, face and mannerisms harken so much of his father, Jack. I loved so many of Jack's performances, but one of my favorites is from the film Glengarry Glen Ross. It's a hard character to watch on many levels because we know he's doomed from the start of the film. Jack portrays an unlikeable character, but we sympathize with him on different levels......he's gotten himself so far behind the 8 ball, he can't find his way out. Great performance.

I am delighted to have stumbled on this interview in my feed. You may have “missed your calling” as a judge in light of your deft and splendid approach here, but I think that the two careers define your breadth of heart and mind. I will subscribe! As for Chris Lemon, I have a first memory of him as a young man: I am watching a movie in which uniformed “police officers” respond (Don’t know which one now). One of them, a good-looking, 20ish actor opens his mouth sounding exactly like Jack Lemon. I remember saying ‘wait a minute’ 😮 - could that be Jack Lemon’s son because that was an uncanny JL impression? (Same voice quality, even mirrored his way of speaking.) I waited for the credits (pre-Google) and sure enough, it was Chris. Didn’t know he existed, but DNA 🧬 is an amazing thing! That was my intro to Chris. Didn’t know he did so much thereafter, but the artistry is there. I believe that by befriending his father thru many obstacles, he created a path of healing for himself (and maybe his dad too) that not all offspring of celebrities manage to do, but ended up making good choices. He came across as a lovely human being who cares about life’s real priorities and people. Bravo, Chris. 😊 If I may, . . . a personal side note regarding the fascinating topic of children blaming themselves for their parents’ split: in my readings and ponderings over these decades, I have mused that a child generally does not know how to analyze and sort out complex relationships and motivations. (Thank you, Dr. Obvious! 😅) Therefore, a literal child (or the child within us) cannot mentally or emotionally assign blame to a beloved parent that is their world and support structure. It is easier for the child to maintain a measure of stability and control of their situation by blaming themselves rather than the parent. Naturally, this is all subconscious, as it is when even seen through adult lenses later. In certain situations, the adult son/daughter may continue to choose to sacrifice parts of themself to keep this illusion (and their inner world) intact with a living, admired or needed parent. In some cases (in our relatively brief lifespans), individuals may be able to relinquish the dream of the “innocent parent of choice”, but in other cases, no. We should not judge them as immature, but understand that by the time of maturity, this emotional “tumor” has connected itself to other pieces of the psyche, and the harm of disentanglement may (not always) cause unnecessary disturbance. I’m no Jung, Freud or even therapist, but these are my thoughts and I welcome others. Thank you again for sharing your gift.

What an inspiring, but somewhat sad, interview with Chris Lemmon, Harvey. He was so honest and forthright. I loved how honest in describing his thoughts on ‘Blonde.’ I would’ve loved to have interviewed his dad too, if only to get his thoughts on some of his films and co-stars, including Walter Matthau, Sandy Dennis (‘The Out of Towners’) and Colleen Dewhurst (‘Tribute’). I feel for what Chris went through with his wicked stepmother and it’s sad he still carries the burden of that relationship. But he has survived a double lung transplant for five years and that’s miraculous in itself. I truly hope his new autobiography is published soon. Sounds like it’ll be a great read. The one child of actors I hope you’re able to talk to is Campbell Scott, son of acting legends Colleen Dewhurst and George C. Scott. He was able to play his mother’s son on stage in ‘Long Days Journey into Night’ (which I will always regret not seeing) and playing her neighbour on film in ‘Dying Young’ (one of her last films).

i love jack lemmon. i like to think that earth is a big stage and we're here acting out the lessons we agreed to prior to incarnation, and the tough relationship you have with your stepmom may be you helping each other with the issues you're here to work on. i had a tough time with my own parents and believe that forgiveness was the lesson that i had to learn with them. and i gotta say i'm still working on it. but despite everything i know too that they loved me and still do, as both your parents despite their rift did and do you, and that that love is eternal.

What a cool guy. And he sounds just like his dad. That’s amazing. Jack Lemmon was always one of my favorite actors. It’s so sad that he had to go through that lung thing. I mean really without your lungs you’re nothing. I can relate to the second wave thing. My dad married a woman who is was shall I say younger than my brother. My brother is almost 6 years older than me and she was in the middle of our ages with two small children. Everything seem to be OK for many years but then, all the sudden she turned into this crazy person. In the end, my dad died from cardiomyopathy, and he died too soon, and he died on the day that my son was flying in to surprise him for his birthday, and we were planning a party, and he should not have died. I found out later that she had given my dad a sleeping pill. Why would you give a man who could hardly breathe, and had a heart issue who his grandson was flying in for his birthday a sleeping pill? She’s an evil evil woman. She I can’t prove it but when I found out a year and a half later, my dad had a well it was eight years old. He had told my daughter that previous month before he passed that he was working on his new well. It’s not that he died before it got done I believe that it was never filed. But I should write a book, but I can’t prove anything, and it would be slander. In the end, she tried to rob me in court of what my dad had left me, and that old well, and I pursued with a vengeance and got more money than her lawyer said we should get. In the end, he helped us get what he knew we deserved. My brother and I. Life gets complicated and it’s hard to let go of these hurts.

Hello Harvey! I commented before when you did the Ann Margret interview and I’m commenting again regarding Chris because I was glued to the tv listening to this amazing interview. It was so interesting to hear about his life with one of my favorite actors (Jack Lemmon) but Chris is also a winner in so many ways which intrigued me. So nice to hear someone from Hollywood being appreciative instead of the victim mentality these days which runs rampant….😊Bravo to both of you. I look forward to your interviews Harvey and grateful that you decided to choose this as your second career!! Yeah!🎉

It’s so tragic that Jack became sober and his second wife didn’t until after he died. Ironically, it’s akin to “The Days of Wine and Roses.” Jack and Lee Remick were masterful.

SAVE THE TIGER, my pers #1 fav, topnotch. ( Havent listened yet). The noir elements make it above normal drama, PTSD connotations/wordplays/the arson motif. 2 neglected a work from ROCKY s dir these days. "Tyger, tyger, burnin bright - in the forests of the nite. What an immortal hand or eye could frame thy FEARFUL SYMMETRY ..." WB (not the cmpny ..).

A REAL DIRTY TRICK from JL to disinherit this hero of existence, his son, who - in spite of it - titled his memoir of him the way he did ...Father/son relations can be strained and difficult, but not necessarily this infected. T. Curtis did the same. None of my biz to comment any further, but this is a sad piece of news to all fans of JL, totally contrary to what his ultra-humane self always reflected thru his various roles on the screen. He was such a chum, sardonic but truly human-like human in an identifiable way, unrelated to a culture- therefore able to reach them all.. Toxicity is a woke-related, post-feminist term I usually don t subscribe to, nor even use, but here it has a valid case; most regrettably. All 'n' all, JL s legacy stays strong in movie history, along w Mr Matushaskayasky's ...whether separately or combined. Walter even closed his set promptly with a work titled HANGIN UP ... A purrfect act to a larger-than-life personality than anyone will evvuhhh be able to surpass or overshadow - filmographywise. Good luck & Godspeed to the interviewee. A year ago I lost a lieutenant col buddy of mine to the same inherited lung fibrosis syndrome; he was 76, country 🇫🇮

@harveybrownstoneinterviews8980 First a drastic change in clothes. Then you might be smoking Marijuana. And one say you wake up from a haze in an opium den, wondering how you got there. It has happened. Be wary. For myself, I found your full dress refreshing. Any schlub can throw on a turtleneck or a collar band shirt. Dressing with a tie and wearing a crisp shirt exuded professionalism and preparedness. Then you would go through your litany of praise and thorough listing of an interviewee's credentials and accomplishments, and I would think to myself... That Harvey should run for Prime Minister!
