One of the most overlooked and underappreciated alternative rock bands ever. This album stands the test of time.
@demerit57 жыл бұрын
I've always loved this song. Is the rest of the album good? I agree though. This band always got pigeonholed into the '90's one hit wonder group' with the New Radicals, White Town, Len, etc.
@jhew69997 жыл бұрын
Rest of the album is brilliant. Don't mis their next two albums as well. King James Version was my favourite, but Little By LIttle was also genius. These guys were so unfairly lumped in with so many weak ass bands... Allmusic has them listed as "Similar to The Flys." Good lord.
@thrawl4 жыл бұрын
Not so sure it stands the test of time. Is it still good? Yes but it is definitely a product of its time
@Robertsmith38284 жыл бұрын
Bub Bub still good, meaning, stands the test of time. It being a product of its time is irrelevant. Even then, this debut has more in common with college or indie rock than a lot of other associated acts of the 90’s.

Let us not forget Sean's solo material (Make Good Choices LP) and his Harry Nilsson cover album (Nelson Sings Nilsson). HD stood the test of time, and Sean's musical endeavours and even his voice stood the test of time and still hits the spot every time :)

I remember grabbing my skateboard and busting my ass a plenty of times while jamming to this one. Most of the dents in my shinbones were made listening to this album and I don't regret any one of them. This song here is one to remember and listen to regularly. Flagpole Sitta may have been their ticket to the limelight, but Carlotta Valdez was the shiniest gem on the album. Love this track!

Jack the Lion is great, too. The whole album just shines but I agree Carlotta Valdez is the best. The bass, the lyrics, the riffs, everything.

I had this on my old MP3 that got stolen in 2017. Shit, that had like 64gigs of kickass music. This album kicks ass. Considering this is from 1997, they were well ahead of their time.

I'm really interested in the person in 2017 who would steal an mp3 player. I'd like to imagine on your behalf that they just really liked your taste in music, because there's no way they were getting a penny off of scraps, even.

i remember there used to be confusion with the other song "Flagpole Sitta" being called "Paranoia" - Green Day. imagine if, in 1997, this was their lead single. people would have sworn up and down for YEARS saying it's a Green Day song before finally getting confirmation.
@ameliawade785 жыл бұрын
There is no song called paranoia by green day. I think you mean basket case.
@lucasacevedo32025 жыл бұрын
@@ameliawade78 What OP means is people used to think the song by Harvey Danger "Flagpole Sitta" was actually a song by Green Day allegedly called "Paranoia." This was before the internet was widespread so most people had no way of knowing, and it sounded like Green Day and something they would write, so people assumed. He's also saying this song sounds even more like Green Day so it's good this wasn't their lead single
@ameliawade785 жыл бұрын
@@lucasacevedo3202 oh okay. Don't know how poeple got confused though? Sean Nelson's voice sounds way different to bille joe armstrongs.
@wspann19675 жыл бұрын
Finley Wade This song in particular sounds like something they could have made in the 39/smooth or Kerplunk period, right down to the production, though Sean Nelson does admittedly have a fairly distinct voice
@ameliawade785 жыл бұрын
@@wspann1967 yeah i could see that. Not quite dookie production level but yeah kerplunk esc. I reckon it'd br fun if green day did a flagpole cover. Dunno if the guys even know who HD is though, not many poeple do unfortunately!

Jeesus---I didn't know that Carlotta Valdez was the name of Jimmy Stewart's BAE in Vertigo. "I will make you her" makes SOOOO much nore sense now. (I think i thought he wanted to make Carlotta Valdez as hot as Kim Novak in the movie which is stupid, but that's what i thought)
@bronxbomber21505 ай бұрын
Jimmy Stewart follows Kim to where your portrait hangs on a wall, Your such a haunting vision he forgets his partner's fall. You jump into the San Francisco bay, I'll follow you in, I know you can't swim, When you've been dead 100 years, Carlotta. Carlotta Valdez, Carlotta Valdez, Carlotta Valdez, I will make you her. Every thing's subjective, nothing lasts for Johnny O, Could kiss Kim Novak where the redwoods grow, I'll bleach her hair and pretend she didn't die, Go up the mission stair, I'll follow anywhere, that is, until you climb too high, 'Cause I get, vertigo, vertigo, vertigo. Carlotta Valdez, Carlotta Valdez, Carlotta Valdez, I will make you her. What a thing to be the centre, of attention all the time, He isn't really falling for this, is he? He's getting dizzy, And so am I. Carlotta Valdez, Carlotta Valdez, Carlotta Valdez, I got you, Carlotta Valdez, Carlotta Valdez, Carlotta Valdez, I will make you her.
