In other words, if someone lived on an island somewhere 100 years ago, and had never heard of Christianity, but lived like they had, they would be saved. Some people would recognize the law of God in their hearts. They would not murder, steal, etc., and would find evidence of the Maker in the creation.

That suggests to me that those in Hell will understand what is going on, which does not suggest permanent death. So, I'd say "Incorrect."

Catholocism isn't the way to heaven. If you trust your own works to get you salvation, you aint saved. Its the finished work on the cross that saves us, its our faith in his works which saves us. I'd be happy to run you through salvation, but it certainly isn't 7 sacraments, avoiding 7 deadly sins, or even following his commands which saves us. We receive our salvation through grace by faith. Christ is fully God, so the people in the OT were speaking with Him. It has always been through Lord Jesus mankind has been saved, He is The Lamb Slain from the Foundation of the World. Regarding the children point, I don't have anything right now that is Scriptural, but I'll comment again when I find it.

I'm a Christian and I cannot say for certainty that all children who have been aborted or who have died really really young are going to heaven. that's God's call and there is no scripture that I have seen that says otherwise. Some people like to use the verse where David says about his son who died that he cannot return to me but I will go to him. But in the context all David is saying is his son cannot return from the grave and that he, David would go to the grave one day.

It's not really that we are superimposing some worldly standard of justice upon God. It is that the Bible reveals these things about His nature, and yet theologians have denied these things, suppressing the truth about Him. So which is more rebellious and worldly, a belief that takes what He said about Himself to heart, or one that favors some scripture to the exclusion of others, suppressing the scripture that they aren't interested in knowing? There is nothing wrong with the question; the other has been run into the ground, but since this side of the truth has been suppressed, the effect was to make the Bible seem to be saying what it is not.

I think you have a basic misunderstanding of Christianity, though the current awful condition of Christianity in America is partially to blame for that. The reality is that Christians worldwide with good knowledge of the Bible understand that every one of us has a wicked heart and cannot meet God's perfect requirements, none of us is qualified to enter Heaven. The gospel means "good news", and the good news is that faith in the one who had taken the penalty for our sins is all that is required. The thief on the cross next to Jesus did nothing but evil, yet had faith in Christ and that was all that was required for him to be saved in the final hours of his life.
