Expect LOTS of blitzing any ball screen with Kyrie or Luka from Minnesota. Gafford and Lively have to short roll and be able to make plays. As a loyal Mavs fan.....I'm not very comfortable with that. Especially with Gafford. Hopefully that short roll leads into some DHO stuff.

The audacity to even try drop against kyrie and luka. Its insane. The fact that kat is a better 1vs1 against joker than gobert and that rudy can only play drop against the best pnr ballhandlery should disqualify him from any dpoy consideration. Help defense should barely get him second team all defense. Guys like Bam or Davis are way more flexible and valuable in the playoffs. Seems like a really bad matchup to have two slow footed centers in kat and rudy against the most skilled backcourt of all time.

7:16 --- that's not a 38 footer. The center of the basket to the free throw line is 13 feet and 9 inches from the center of the rim/13 feet from the front of the rim, --- the 3 point line is 23' 9" from the center of the rim--- That shot was taken about 8-9 feet behind the 3 point line, so it's really 32/33 feet at best.

"I relied on the stupidity of my victims to steal their money" is not an excuse and it doesn't get you any less time in jail. 2. That doesn't work for sports gambling. If you can estimate probability that a team will win better than the odds makers you can win in the long run (spoiler, you can't do it, but in principle you can, in principle you aren't destined to lose money, unlike when it comes to other forms of gambling).

The Timberwolves kept going for the inefficient 3 instead of the efficient 2. That's ultimately what killed them. They didn't have their big men *Playing BIG.* There was a point in the game when I laughed out loud that both KAT and Naz Reid were spotting up in the corners while the post had guards in it trying to rebound missed 3 pointers. Meanwhile Kyrie Irving is just repeatedly running into the lane at will getting layups and jumpers all night. With Luka struggling to shoot from distance for more than a half, the Wolves should have clogged the low post and forced Dallas to shoot long range 2's and 3's. Instead as this video points out the had Rudy at the high post allowing the space for the layup drive. The MN coaching staff not adjusting killed this game. The wolves defense kept Dallas from getting an extended lead, but their lack of production due to their unwillingness to change their attack cost them from ever getting the lead back.

McDaniels need to be better at re-positioning when guarding luka, Gobert need to be able to provide shadow over luka and anticipated lob potential at the same time, while others need to be more proactive on predicting skip passes

In some of these possessions like at 1:15 if Gobert doesn't full drop, but simply retreats a bit and then stands his ground in between the dotted half circle and the charge arc and just puts his hands up, that would be far better defense than for him to simply keep shuffling backwards, like WHAT does he/they think he's actually doing there? Edwards is already on the right side so Luka would have to drive between Gobert and Edwards. Play good defense and make him take a tough shot over length and if he scores, congrats and make him do it again.

10:34 this right here is an example of why I have never been a fan of Kyle Anderson. He screws up his defensive assignments all the time. He always holds the ball to long on inbound plays because he never instinctively thinks to pass the man closest to you that is open when the preferred player is unavailable to execute the version of the inbound play that was practiced. And he almost always panics and passes up on easier close range shots and instead goes for the more difficult pass to a teammate whenever he gets the ball near the post. He got 11 points in this game because for the first time in a minute he actually took the easier open 2 instead of trying to pass the ball to someone in a worse position. I wish trading guys before the playoffs was something that was possible.

In Luka and Kyrie you have two of the best basketball savants on the planet. On paper I really did not think it would work but they actually seem to like each other (similar to Ant getting his team to buy into Rudy). At one point late in this game I remember thinking that the Mavs were leaning too heavily into iso ball but Luka just kept hitting the shots.

Minnesota TWolves is built to beat Nuggets and Jokic meanwhile the Mavs will feast BIG TIME on Gobert. I've seen this before when the Mavs with Luka and JB literally benched Gobert on the Jazz's bench

Man, I remember that series of Mavs and Jazz. Gobert was totally unplayable that series because mostly Luka was eating him alive and Jazz franchise went on a total rebuild after that 😂

Gobert has always been a defensive liability every single year in the Playoffs. He is THE weakest link that teams always exploit yet he somehow wins DPOY year after year. When are people going to wake up and realise he's actually a scrub on defence once he gets drawn outside the paint?

Maybe this is a series where more Naz Reid makes sense over Conley. Move McDaniels to Kyrie, Naz Reid on Luka.

It's actually Naz over Gobert. Drop just isn't very effective against Luka+Kyrie. You need to be able to switch. And Mavs struggle against 5 out (especially 5 out big men who attack closeouts)

Ah yes, the solution to the best defense in decades: run regular pick and rolls. Every game is different. If I'm a Mavs fan, I'm really happy my team was able to win on a poor three point shooting night. As a Wolves fan, I feel pretty confident they will just play better.
