Considering this was 1970, this is incredibly trans positive. They never question Lola’s attractiveness, or make fun of the MC for being attracted to her. Remember that this is the year after Stonewall. This song was way ahead of its time. And it’s just generally awesome. Another awesome one is Walk on the Wild Side by Lou Reed.
@mfree80286

Yes, but there was also a brilliant out left in the lyrics just for the stiffs in parliament. "But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man, And so is Lola". Obviously we know what's meant, but if there was any official questioning... "of course not, Lola is simply glad he's a man as well." Then again, even that doesn't directly produce a sexual assignation. Bravo, wordplay.

The song "Lola" by The Kinks was released in 1970. I was 14 and I really got into many of the British rock bands when they invaded America with their music in 1964. I saw The Kinks for the first time in 1977. I also saw them in 1980 and around in 1983 or 1984. All three concerts I saw them in my hometown of Santa Barbara, California. In the 60s-80s soho was the Red Light district of London. None of them had a liquor license so if you asked for champagne you’d basically get some non-alcoholic carbonated drink (I.e. Oh man, I have NEVER actually heard this song, but I do know the instrumentation thanks to the genius that is Weird Al Yankovic, who did an amazing parody of this song called "Yoda." I would love to see your reaction to that one.

I literally cannot hear this song anymore without hearing “YODA , Y-O-D-A YODA” thanks to my brothers influence… Please react to Yoda - Weird Al Yanchovic!! The original parody god. Almost every artist considers it an honour to have a song spoofed by him and his catalogue fits in with what y’all are reacting to! After that I recommend Smells Like Teen Spirit 😆

The Kinks are the greatest rock band in history. I was raised on the 60s 70s era of music and The Kinks where the best of them all. They have 30 hit tunes and are all over the place with their stuff. The Beatles are great but The Kinks are the best. I am a life long Who fan but The Kinks are the only other band i can listen too all day.

Welcome to the genius of songwriter Ray Davies. The Kinks were absolutely brilliant, and Ray Davies wrote so many great songs. Just a few: Waterloo Sunset, Days, Animal Farm, I'm Not Like Everybody Else, Victoria, Picture Book, Oklahoma USA, 20th Century Man.....god, the list goes on and on and on and on. His brother Dave wrote some great songs as well.

As far as I remember, this was just highly rated as a great Kinks song, with their typical quality and originality - and Ray Davies' fantastic vocals! A fun tune, with a message that really, 50 years later or so, shouldn't need any explanation. It's a bit sad that it sometimes does. If you're not familiar, please check out Waterloo Sunset. Think of a bridge over the river Thames in London and a young couple in love on the bridge while the sky is full of the colours of the setting sun. It's so sweet! ❤❤
