In this video we discuss a topic that the yoga community has been split on for sometime now. Has TickTock had a positive or negative impact on yoyoing and the community? These are a combination of my thoughts and other thoughts from members of the community on both sides. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! As always, thank you so much for watching! I've been trying to step up the quality of these videos and your support has been super encouraging! Thank you!
A HUGE thanks goes out to everyone who shared their thoughts on Instagram!!

8:20 I completely agree with you. Maybe about 2 months ago I loved having a unique hobby that almost nobody has but everybody is just going to be asking you to do the same trick over and over again. To have people to appreciate hard tech tricks or crazy banger tricks is very satisfying and rewarding

Honestly I’m mostly bummed out about Yoyo Joe (one of my favorite Yoyo KZfaqrs) spending all his time on tik toks daily and barely any of the KZfaq content he used to do. The high quality KZfaq truck tutorials and Yoyo reviews were so much better than seeing him do DNA 100 times on tik tok

If you were him, you would probably do this too. He might want to get benefit from playing this hobby at the end. I understand that we love his reviews/tutorials but we should be generous by not criticizing his decision

Yea plus he’s in college now and being able to do at 15 second TikTok with a dna at the end is probably much more easier to be making full videos on KZfaq

Such a well done video! Every point you made hit home. Personally, I’m really excited to see new members join and can’t wait to see all the new tricks they’ll come up with. More people means more variety.

Honestly, I just don’t use TikTok because of some of their issues with unethical data collection. Nothing against anyone who does use it.

I think that yoyoing has the potential to help many people for several different reasons! It’s a great hobby! It’s rewarding and there is a calming nature about it! I love just turning on my headphones and getting lost in my own mind with doing my hardest tricks! There is no better feeling than practicing something you have worked so hard on! I love how you touched in that topic!! Yoyoing is so special and it is a great stress reliever!! Though I have never competed I still love the sport!! I love to practice like I’m competing in 1A finals and putting in my best effort! Yoyoing is a creative outlet and it lets people become unique and stand out from the crowd!! I am on the same page as you! I want yoyoing to grow, but I don’t want so many people doing it that it loses its uniqueness! Overall it’s a great hobby and I am glad I have it in my life! It gives me happiness when life gets hard!! I am sure the rest of us can say the same!! Wow I wrote a lot! Lol!!

Awesome point about the whole idea of yoyoing becoming more mainstream. I think it’s still something that needs to grow a bit, but with that being said, I still love how it’s a unique thing that you don’t see everyday. It’s a good argument.

I think every hobby can benefit out of getting more popular. When you look into other hobbies that are popular, like mountain biking, still its unique to be a downhill racer or dirt jumper. Speedsolving rubik's cubes, everybody knows about it but still whenever I solve cube in public people are intrested in it and it seems unique. Hobbies getting more popular build up more people to organize an events. The more people, the more tutorials on internet, the more products, you can choose from, the more innovations. People always will get mad about making their hobby/passion popular, just look at chess community how they hated on streamers for just playing chess. Even though its really really old game, that is probably the most popular in the world, people still hate on those who popularise it.

I went through this with skateboarding, but I had to recognize my own hypocrisy to get over it. I only ever got into skateboarding as a kid because it was on the x-games. There's a very vocal part of the skateboarding community that wants to keep it counter-culture, which means keeping skateboarding away from avenues for the average person to discover. As I went through high school, I found myself judging a lot of other people for taking an interest in skateboarding that wasn't at the same level I did. The sport really did get deluded to a point somewhere in the mid to late 2000's. The in the early 2010's, there was a "crash" of sorts. This didn't come without consequences for the sport either, mainly brands folding and lower availability of skateboard parts. So even though I got skateboarding to go back to where I thought it should be, it hurt me in the end. Through all of this I realized that a high tide raises all ships. When something becomes popular, there will always be a lot of "noise" to sift through in order to find what you enjoyed in the first place, but overall I think the exchange is worth it. The more people that are interested in your hobby, the more chances it has for innovation, and it also opens up the opportunity for someone to become inspired just like you were, and find a new passion they carry with them for a lifetime.

I think that it kind of has ruined it in a way, take for example Stoney Mack, he’s good but is the perfect example and all his social media content is him doing the same combo and pointing at the text above using a very over played song. Most of his clips are repeats of the same thing

Yo-yo’s will get associated with tiktok and will kill so many potential genuine enthusiasts about it and replace them with kids with a 5 second attention span that will drop yo-yoing the second something slightly more interesting to watch on tiktok comes along .
