The calculation that the soup can price will only go up 0.6 cents higher is wrong if you consider these 2 points - 1. The assumption that the price of the final product goes up by the exact same amount as its raw materials (even after giving leeway for wastage involved during manufacturing) is a marketing-induced consumer myth - that's not how corporations make money. 2. If you listened to the big, repeated stale propaganda that was associated with that announcement, the purported intention is to make "it a real country" aka making steel and aluminium (I too pronounce it like the 2nd 'i' exists) in the US - that will add much more to the price - unless the companies bring in foreign workers, just like this conscience-dead showman of a creature does himself.

Most countries want to advance their economy. Trump wants to drag his back to the 60's
@altrag
@altrag 6 жыл бұрын
If he could do that, people would be more on the #MAGA train. The 60s were good for the US (at least until Vietnam went off the rails,) if you discount the nuclear threat. Unfortunately, his randomly-announced and not-well-considered policies are aiming to drag the US back more to the 30s than the 60s.
@alanb9443
@alanb9443 6 жыл бұрын
The 60s was a good time for the US compared to other countries in the 60s. A 60s economy vs a modern economy is pitifully weak and a US economy from the 60s would be a around a 2nd tier nation today.

Actually both could be considered correct, since its discovery, by English chemist Sir Humphry Davy. He derived the name from the mineral called alumina, which itself had only been named in English by the chemist Joseph Black in 1790. Sir Humphry made a bit of a mess of naming this new element, at first spelling it alumium (this was in 1807) then changing it to aluminum, and finally settling on aluminium in 1812. His classically educated scientific colleagues preferred aluminium right from the start, because it had more of a classical ring, and chimed harmoniously with many other elements whose names ended in -ium, like potassium, sodium, and magnesium, all of which had been named by Davy.

about them can prices. For normal drinks the cost is usually 2-5 cents can productions, 1 cent content and the rest is marketing and distribution. Since the steel increase will rest on distribution as well. Every machine will basically be more expensive this will factor in as well. Also the Whiskey and Harley's are specifically targetted because they come from the respective states of Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell.

America already has more protectionist trade measures than any other member of the G20, by a ratio of over 2:1. They impose more protections, in more sectors, against more countries, both in and out of the G20; they initiate protection more often, they respond more often, the capital affected by their protectionism dwarfs any other nation, they take more cases to the WTO and win a higher % of their cases than any other nation. But... still... despite all that, and being the wealthiest nation in the world, apparently, everything is unfair to them! For a concise breakdown of figures on US (and all G20) trade imbalances, see CEPR Global Trade Alert: www.globaltradealert.org/

Here, tell me what you disagree with, in the exhaustive and non-partisan research: www.globaltradealert.org/ NB: I would link direct to the PDF report, as it's only about 20 pages, and packed full of data and sources, but I think a direct link to a file gets auto-flagged.

The increase on a can of soup is nothing, sure, but what about a more realistic view. What would be the increase on a car, or the re-bar and steel fixing to build a house. This is where it is going to hit the average consumer. 25% of 2.6 cents is .65 of a cent, 25% of $26,000 is $6,500. That's a real world comparison.

Get yourself a Triumph or a Norton !!! As, it's not looking good RUPKE: "Harley is in decline, if not freefall. It hasn't been able to staunch the bleeding on its bread-and-butter motorcycles, is shutting down production facilities, and is laying off workers, yet it wants to introduce an electric motorcycle now. In reality, that's a completely different kind of motorcycle than what it's known for and something few people have really been demanding from the bike maker. Harley-Davidson has also forecast more pain for the immediate future, with shipments of new bikes to dealers expected to decrease another 4% in 2018, down to as few as 231,000 motorcycles. Those are numbers not seen since 2011, when it was just coming out of the recession. If sales keep falling at their current rate, it might have to scale back those numbers even more. Profit margin is also expected to fall, from 12.5% this year to between 9.5% and 10% in 2018.Unfortunately, with all that's been going on in the industry, Harley-Davidson not only doesn't seem to have learned the right lessons, but it looks like it's also continuing to learn the wrong ones -- meaning its skidding stock price may not be done giving investors some serious road rash." o_O

GANGES The only thing the US is ahead of other countries in, is military hardware. They thought that would be enough, so they got lazy at everything else, and made schools too expensive. Now look.

weird? have you seen historically an empire that lasted forever? The answer is No. In fact empires tend to have shorter lifes... the thing is, would those who run the country be able to minimize the impact or, like Trump seems to be doing, make that impact "bigly greater" by anchoring its economy in the past?

Skyprince27 - the USA didn't get lazy. They simply continued on their greedy capitalistic ways! The rich got richer, the poor gets poorer and if you keep them ignorant (under fund schools for everyone) and full of fear (NRA) you CAN manipulate them very easily....until it's too late. Like lambs lead to slaughter..... sadly.

The US makes 5% of the world's steel and your use is dropping. When are you going to start building the modern steel mills?

You can tell Trump knows nothing of the topic he speaks. He can be fed that skittles does come from a rainbow and he will tweet and speak on it. It’s why he folds his arms a lot.

While I don't agree with every liberal idea and think that they try push many issues unrealistically far, the Conservatives are presenting opportunity after opportunity for a comedian right now. It's sad, that the line between the two sides seems to become so big. There used to be liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats.
