I met Hasan while he was traveling in January during the whole Saudi Arabia episode takedown thing. We ended up on the same plane. I only just said hello and that I loved his show, but his demeanor honestly made me really glad I got the chance to say even that. He certainly got a lifetime fan out of me.

I love how every time this interviewer tries to make it about race or some simplified American concept Hasan brings it back to humanity and personal choice or a more global perspective. Beautiful.

I've watched Patriot Act and I think that Minhaj does his own form of race-baiting by labeling people as racist just for not toeing his own line. He also spouts a lot of innuendo. I don't see him as the most objective social commentator out there, even if he does cauche his bias in wit.

I’m a white European woman and I’m also a huge fan of Hasan. He’s right that the internet makes a huge difference. When I was young, we couldn’t watch American Late Night shows in Europe. Now we can watch segments on KZfaq, and that’s how Hasan became my favourite correspondent on the Daily Show. I think for the majority of people, what colour their favourite comedians are is not really important. If they are good, you Will relate to them even if your background and experiences are vastly different from theirs. I love that these days so many English speaking comedians tour everywhere, also in countries where English is not the first language, but maybe the third or fourth... In 2018, I saw Russell Peeters and Trevor Noah here in Antwerp (Belgium). Both had very mixed audiences, all skin colours, different age ranges,... Russell performed in a theatre, Trevor in a small stadium.

What's with the host?? Hassan gives great answers to the relevant topic, not the host's questions! He could be doing a much more interesting interview, given his guest. He doesn't even follow his intuition during the interview; when Hassan interrupts him, two minutes later the host starts the question he couldn't finish with the same word order! The scene has grown, move on!!

It seems like he’s had a lot of experience before getting his show. Patriot Act / Hasan Minhaj is the reason why I have Netflix. Him and his team have the Top 3 show right now. 🔥🔥 compare Patriot Act to anything out there right now. Visual podcast is a great description because there’s nothing like it.

The question regarding, "how will you relate...?", was beyond ignorant. I'm lily white (based on my recent DNA results), and I completely connect with the show and banter most of the time. I'm 51 years old and grew up in Texas. One grandmother was Jewish, fighting in the French underground and moving to Texas without knowing a word of English. My Dad's mother moved to Texas from Pennsylvania as a child in a covered wagon with her Polish immigrant parents. Meanwhile, both of my grandfathers' families had been in Texas for generations. My point is our differences may seem extreme, but they're really not that different. We don't call elders Auntie or Uncle, but we damn sure better call them Mr or Nrs. Families are families; people are people, and we share more in common than we don't.

He, I and many/most muslim outside Saudi Arabia had always this odd feelings, dislike for Saudi family. Feelings like, Why does this colonial powers backed family brand our holyland, Arabia as call it Saudi Arabia. Fahd and Abdullah were no saints, but MBS crossed all limit in Yemen. Arabia today is not much different North Korea, just that people have little more material stuff to keep them distracted. We muslims have tons of love for holyland but we will oppose MBS and perhaps not visit Mecca till MBS is in power.

When there is autocracy, the biggest worry for the world is that the people not support it out of ignorance as in the case of Hitler, but with MBS, he has no people support. I wish Hasan demonstrates the same courage and criticize Israel because both Saudi Arabia and Israel are authoritarian regimes with the worst human rights abuses to their record. Let's be honest, in the western world, criticizing Saudi Arabia is seen as progressive but if you dare criticize Israel then you're conveniently labelled an antisemite. This blatant hypocrisy needs to end if we truly care about justice and human rights for all.

I don’t get why people are upset with the interviewer? He is doing what a good interviewer does - asking the questions (albeit a bit dry and dull) and then making sure it gets answered and finally allowing Hassan to answer the questions in his style... what more do people want?
@MysticDreamz
@MysticDreamz 5 жыл бұрын
I think the reason people are upset is because the interviewer is treating it more like an interrogation then a chat between two intellectual people. He wants the answers given in a very specific kind of way rather than the organic way a conversation is supposed to flow. If you watched any of Hassan's other interviews you'll find you can later re-watch them because they are interesting and funny. They put a cut an dry interviewer to question a comedian for almost an hour. I lost interest in what he had to say after 10 minutes. Honestly Hassan proved how well he can handle social situations that may leave other people discouraged or disinterested.

I agree with you. I didnt find it hard to watch. Yes the interviewers wasnt the best, but I am sure he will get better with time, his questions were good, even the ones that I found controversial like the one on people watching the show, it was well handled by Hassan, and probably made a good reference point that Hassan can refer back to. I enjoyed the interview despite wanting to host to be better, it didnt take away from the show for me... actually only one thing did, starting with the housing keeping of not making comments, if at all say that before the question segment not before the entire interview...that tone wasnt a good set up.. just trying to look at both sides of the argument... but ultimately, I still completely enjoyed watching the interview :)

@@matenagy5854 True, but Hassan has interviewed with many people before and none of them made me this aggravated. He doesn't have a feel for timing and it makes it very awkward. It's like Hassan is trying to lighten things up and make the interview more relaxed and interesting to follow. But the interviewer is treating it more like an interrogation then an interview. He wants questions answered in a specific way and will revisit the questions even when the question was already answered more or less.

@@matenagy5854 an interview is not for interruption at all--journalists are taught to let a conversation flow and definitely aren't suppose to blandly recite question after question. And before anyone rebuttals with time-constraint claims, he should be prepared with priority questions and optional ones. Or perhaps they let the original interview take its natural course and edit it afterwards to fit the hour; making two versions.

Fellas! Let's relax. There's enough hate and anger in this world. Let's try to empathize and understand each other's perspective. Spread love, not hate! Put the right energy into the universe, and that includes every little comment on social media. :)

This host needs to re-learn another important part of asking questions...wait time and silence...comedians are masters of this...timing...u ask a heavy question and interject right away not 3-5 seconds into your question...not a good look...the person you asked is just drawing out a response after 5 seconds...unless this is going to turn out as a gotcha lead-on interview...

I like your show dave, armenian coffee has grounds in the bottom. I kicked it with this dude crafty he was cool he wanted my shirt i was rocking but he asked if we made it with sleeves. I should give the extra inventory to Hassan to sell for "blank" also I got to talk to dave first he helped but i paid for everything and I got a letter for the art. no contracts. YOU in buddy?

I wouldn't call Netflix part of the big five. Replace them with Microsoft and Minhaj's list is correct

A lot of people being too hard on the interviewer, its hard to keep up with someone as good as Hasan and being a good interviewer takes a lot of experience. Give the guy a break.

Taking the liberty to associate ‘Jordans and HipHop’ is very touchy since the backstory to those references is a real Blackstory. Let’s no forget how many slaved to pave the way for the minority’ to even grace the stage. Don’t the proud melanin that’s made it sexy to claim the fame is being killed in the America’s streets.
