saves external component costs
Built-in circuitry practically eliminates audible noise with ordinary dip-varnished transformer
Programmable line under-voltage detect feature prevents power on/off glitches
Frequency jittering dramatically reduces EMI (~10 dB)
minimizes EMI filter component costs
132 kHz fix frequency operation reduces transformer size - allows use
of EF12.6 or EE13 cores
Very tight tolerances and negligible temperature variation on key parameters eases design and lowers cost
Lowest component count switcher solution
Expanded scalable device family for low system cost
Lower system cost than RCC, discrete PWM and other integrated/hybrid solutions
it is cost effective replacement for bulky regulated linears
simple ON/OFF control - no loop compensation needed
no bias winding - simpler, lower cost transformer
simple design practically eliminates rework in
TinySwitch-II integrates a 700 V power MOSFET, oscillator, high voltage switched current source, current limit and thermal shutdown circuitry onto a monolithic device. The start-up and operating power are derived directly from the voltage on the DRAIN pin, eliminating the need for a bias winding and associated circuitry. In addition, the
Minimum continuous power in a typical non-ventilated enclosed adapter measured at 50 °C ambient.
Minimum practical continuous power in an open frame design with adequate heat sinking, measured at 50 °C ambient (See Key Applications Considerations).

TinySwitch-II devices incorporate auto-restart, line under voltage
sense, and frequency jittering. An innovative design minimizes audio frequency components in the simple ON/OFF control scheme to practically eliminate audible noise with standard taped/varnished transformer construction. The fully integrated auto-restart circuit safely limits output power during fault conditions such as output short circuit or open loop, reducing component count and secondary feedback circuitry
cost. An optional line sense resistor externally programs a line under-voltage threshold, which eliminates power down glitches caused by the slow discharge of input storage capacitors present in applications such as standby supplies. The operating frequency of 132 kHz is jittered to significantly reduce both the quasi-peak and average EMI, minimizing filtering cost.

How To Repair SMPS • {528} How To Repair SM... 132KHz switching frequency, it uses very few external components. as it have internal oscillator circuit, so there is no need fo any RT/CT and compensation circuits. it uses Enable pin as feedback circuit to provide voltage regulation. and same pin is used to low line voltage at DC rail. its internal current sense circuit is used to provide constant current feature by adding Leading Edge blanking option.

Thank you for doing this video. My circuit is exactly the same one as in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nLaFddlomLjepn0.html. It's the indoor unit pcb for LG inverter air conditioner. After much checking and replacing the snubber diode and 266 ic, the new ic I replaced with also blown. After that, I found the cap in RCD was also bad. So I replaced it. Before I tested the pcb again, I checked all the components in the high power side for short circuit and discovered one diode was shorted. So had to replace that one too. When I powered up the pcb again, the ic no longer blows. But I found the smoothing cap after the bridge was not giving a stable dc voltage, it was fluctuating between 75-220v, was expecting a stable 330 from 240vac mains. It's ironic the ic was still switching even with a faulty smoothing cap. So I had to replace that too, but I couldn't find the exact value (10uf 500v) so I put in a 22uf 500v, the voltage after replacement is 335v. As you suggested, I also checked the vcc capacitor for the ic and found 5.88 volts, which is satisfactory. I also checked the optocoupler and it is still good, no short circuit. For now, I assume the smps transformer is working fine because if it's broken, I can't find the replacement for it so might as well abandon the repair. For now the pcb seems to be working normally, and I hope nothing else is broken. Your videos gave me confidence to repair my own circuit. Many ac technicians even from LG service center itself told me the board couldn't be repaired and just scrap the entire unit. It's so satisfying to be able to do this when so many people told me I couldn't.

Hi, thanks for your videos, they are very informative! Do you maybe know what is the typical windings resistance of transformers that work on 130kHz (driven by similar TNY286DG)? Mine reads less than an Ohm, all 3 winding: primary, bias and secondary. I just don't know what is normal for a such a high frequency transformers, and the transformer is very small, 1cm x 1cm. Hi, I always watch your videos and like them a lot. I didn't find in this IC datasheet how to calculate the flyback transformer winding. Can you show us? I know you have a video about flyback transformer calculation, but I think that for this IC it is diferent. It operates a duty cycle more than 0.5. Thank you very much.

I understand the optocoupler in this circuit but I still dnt understand the communication circuit in inverter a/c with the optocoupler.

it is best to search with outdoor unit model number or PCB model number (it is the best, most of time the same PCB is also used in some other brand)
