This is probably why Hasuel always did her best to help Vivi when it came to learning korean and communicating in general. She knows what it's like to be in a foreign country without knowing the language and how lonely and tough it can be.

I can totally relate with Haseul on this and I'm sure a lot of immigrant children as well. Aside from basic "my name is ....." "how are you?" "I'm fine thank you", I didn't know a lick of English when I migrated to the U.S. The first day of school was so surreal. It's really as if you landed on another planet. Back then mobile phone and Internet wasn't widely available so you can't just google translate your way through things and had to learn English word by word too. If not for the two friends I met that helped me through the first few weeks in school, my middle school (~junior high for some non-U.S. folks) experience would've probably been a lot more rough.

it's great that Haseul told her honest experience - giving precise details - never heard someone talk like that before - she sounds mature - maybe that experience made her more mature - it was fascinating children can adjust to immersion schooling very easily - most foreigners to the US used to be placed right in school - and before long - they are talking english - at the same time they are learning too - tests show that they are keeping up with the native students - - i had a pakistani coworker who was thrown into school when he was about 7 or 9 - when his family moved to canada - and he was settled in & speaking english before the end of the school year - - there seems to be a point when people struggle at what comes easily to a child - it may be around 16 years of age

It must have been incredibly hard for her at that age in a new country learning a new language and culture. Thinking back to my own school days, I feel a bit guilty not being more friendly and sympathetic with the new transfer students. I was a quiet and shy kid who largely kept to myself, so it would’ve been tough.

She is so brave. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Please everyone, be open and understanding to those kids who are shy, maybe do not have a lot of friends, and are quiet. There are A LOT of wonderful people out there if you only make an effort to met them, get to know them, let them open up and be themselves.
