Hasselblad has finally announced the new X2D as well as three “V series” lenses - a 38mm f/2.5, 55mm f/2.5 and a 90mm f/2.5 - all are considerably lighter and much quieter than the first generation lenses.
The X2D features a new 100MP, BSI sensor with phase detection autofocus. There is a new top level screen, high resolution EVF, tiltable rear touch screen, in-body image stabilization, a built in 1TB SSD drive and other new features discussed in this video.

Ted, thanks for this review. I love the fact that it’s a minimal camera. When you come from a generation of shooting on film, you really require 2 settings. I feel this camera is more on the lines of the Leica systems I am used to. Pure function pared with beautiful design. Now I won’t need to drag and XF body with IQ back to get the resolution and the amazing colour I see. The only reason I never moved to hassie was always the clunky software. Now if only Capture One support is announced for this one ;-)

Man, this camera is something else. So I had X1D II and today I got my X2D. I am practicing photography from last 11-12 years and I have used camera's with IBIS but no one is close to X2D. I took some hand held shots on 1 sec with ISO 200 with my XCD 65mm at 2.8. They are so darn sharp that I can't even explain. by far the best. I am more of a street portrait and street photography kinda guy and only challenge I was getting with X1D was at night shoots. X2D is worth every single penny. Go for it if you can.

Another great review. Thanks, Ted. I was waiting for this camera for for years and finally invested in the GFX 100s with the GF 23, 32-64, and 110 lenses. I've been massively impressed with the quality, especially of the 23 and 110, although the system has flaws for sure, such as the low sync speed and very laggy viewfinder. I can't tell you how often I pined for a leaf shutter while shooting in mixed lighting conditions. This new Hasselblad may be all the reason I need to jump ship, but I need to get a better idea of how it handles under pressure (I'm a commercial photographer and primarily shoot people). I'm sure if I make the switch that Fuji will immediately introduce a 150mp sensor with a global shutter lol
@nelsonclub7722
@nelsonclub7722 Жыл бұрын
With hi res pixel shift creating 600mp!!!! - I did this - I went from 100mp GFX to Hass X series due to leaf shutters and an overly complicated system - 1 huge bonus is the batteries - only GFX100s are now available - duracell do some - but expensive - whilst the GFX took 2 they don't last long enough and once charged up and down a few times get worse - I shot 1250 wedding shots on three hass batts- 2 in the x1d and 1 in the 907x - you won't regret the move - if you do any kind of commercial work the files are glorious - far better colour wise than the fuji system and you can do more with them - cropping in on 100mp is where its at though so if you are used to the fuji files at 100mp this will knock your socks off - I did have a Hass H6D100c for a while which has an almost full frame sensor and whilst the detail was off the charts the camera was far too slow and the lenses even the orange dot ones only operate at 2k shutter speed - things have got bigger whilst getting smaller - I'm all over this - good luck

We’ve had Hasselblad in our studio for decades and when Fuji launched its GFX line we’ve tried that extensively. The various GFX50 models as well as both the GFX100 and the GFX100S. All these are great cameras, but couldn’t match our Hasselblads H6Ds (and the loaner X1DII). Fujifilm has two very good GF lenses that are comparable to the XCD equivalents and those are the 110mm and the 32-64mm. The other lenses are good too, but not as good as Hasselblad. On top of that we found quite some sample variation in Fuji lenses. The other areas where Fuji in our practice falls short is the limitations in flash sync, the reliability of the cameras (we had quite some issues incl. a defect shutter) and of course the overall image quality esp. in color rendering and DR. We do high-end fashion and make-up portraits, so color accuracy is prime. Fuji certainly has nice colors, but there were too many issues to get the skintones perfect and fabrics like silk or linen looked ‘plasticky’ due to overprocessing in-camera. Our tech editors didn’t like to work on the RAF files and much preferred the 3FR and NEF files. If this X2D solves all the issues we had with the X1D, it might be a great camera for professional work at a reasonable price (compared to the H6D).
@tor2919
@tor2919 Жыл бұрын
Back in the day the lenses for the V system where each and everyone individually checked for sample variation. Just like Hasselblad individually calibrates each of their sensors today for colour consistency. I don't know whether they still individually check the lenses. But put it this way, there's a reason Hasselblads cost more. Image quality. What you describe explains really well why real professional brands like Profoto or Hasselblad are more expensive. They're usually more consistent with higher degrees of quality control. You used to have cheaper options in the past too, like Bronica. Today there's Fujifilm, and while great, they simply don't have the same level of quality.
@jacobh5817
@jacobh5817 Жыл бұрын
@@tor2919 Hasselblad still checks every lens for sample variations (and of course quality). Even the X lenses, that btw aren’t that much cheaper compared to the V lenses.

Great review/preview, thanks a lot. I'we used Hasselblad since the age of 18 (it was a 500C), and I'm now 66 and still using Hasselblad. I shoot on 500CM, H3D, and X1D II. The new camera seems awesome, but I have one question. I shoot for a project (youtube videos and a book), using vintage glass on the X1D (could be the X2D), but the sensor readout time of 300 milliseconds is limiting my work. Do you know if the X2D have faster sensor readout? That for me could be the single most important argument for an update. By the way, the addition of a very effective IBIS is one of the greatest things on this new camera, off course apart from it being 100 max. Seeing forward to having it in my hand, Hasselblad X1D ergonomics is the best in the world, and the X2D looks to be just as good.

Hey Ted, thanks for making this lil into to the camera for us! I've been pretty invested into the x system for a while now slowly buying up glass. And I would love to see how the previous generation lenses function on the new x2d. For example direct comparisons of the same lens on the original x1d vs the x2d. I guess my only disappointment with the new x2d is that they got rid of the mic port to allow us to use the shutter button cable which i really love using when I'm working from a tripod. Super sad about that loss but excited for everything else. Looking forward to the more in depth review! Cheers from Paris. - Matthew

I didn't spot that - luckily Hass's own remote bluetooth remote capture - I have used both iPhone and Ipad Pro - is brilliant and works faultlessly and seamlessly - on both the 907x and X1Dii - so use that I suppose??

Hey Ted, thanks for this video, but but now I am a little confused I saw your video on the leica Q2 Monochrome and was thinking about purchasing one. I love shooting B&W film, but after developing and the cost of getting a high end scan, it was getting costly and time consuming. So I thought the Leica, would be great Choice after watching your review on it. But now, after watching this review I’m not sure. Any helpful thought on which direction I should go. Thanks.

Looks like the DJI tech is finally making its way to Hasselblad in a meaningful way post-acquisition, which is honestly great, and it's clearly modernizing/improving the X#D system. Also glad that they haven't lost the svelte design, usability, and polish that makes it a Hasselblad. That said, I suspect taking away video is more a side effect of DJI not wanting this camera to compete in any way with own-brand products, seeing as they've been expanding their offerings in the cine space. It does have the benefit of simplifying a camera that no one is buying for video anyway, but probably for the "wrong" reasons.

Dpreview states nothing about the still shot fps? Is it a landscape/cityscape/portrait camera? Or can it do wildlife? Astrophotography?
