Ted Ficken, PhD, discuss the power of music and the ways that music can both heal and harm. He explores why hate music can be considered a public health issue, how hate music can be dangerous, and the public health implications that require attention, investigation and compassionate understanding.
Ficken also discuss research and stories that contributed to the writing of his recent book, Music of Hate, Music for Healing.

Ted Ficken, PhD, is a credentialed Music Therapist and a Professorial Lecturer in the Healthcare Administration Program at George Washington University in Washington, DC. Dr. Ficken earned a BME and MME in Music Education/Music Therapy from the University of Kansas and a PhD in Public Health from Oregon State University. He is also a certified professional in healthcare quality (CPHQ) and has taught online at George Washington University (GWU) for the past seven years.
