How can I be expected to be respectful to someone who wishes to shutter my speech, take away my human rights, take away any chance of regaining ANY form of political representation, and even punish me and discriminate against me by law, purely for my thoughts, opinions, etc. There is a time to be respectful. And there is a time to fight for what's right. Like the lives of children, basic human rights, your culture being destroyed. I don't need to be respectful. That's the whole fn point. RESPECT IS EARNED NOT GIVEN.

mattanasio73 I agree. They've been conditioned to react based on their emotions. ( and they call conservatives reactionaries, lol ) I'm willing to bet that the majority of their professors discourage critical thinking, rationality and logic in general. This is why we hear students say things like, "I don't debate fascists." The traditional method of using a cogent argument to refute an opposing idea has been replaced with a clichéd, ubiquitous knee-jerk reaction that can only be based on emotion. They've essentially "unlearned" logic at these "institutes of higher learning." It Is by design that they're entering the world entirely dependent on authority and lacking even a vague concept of what it means to have agency.

She used a lot of words to say very little and really relied on her use of "intelligent" words - - primarily status quo and rhetoric, which she used A LOT - - but words, that are not often used outside the debate stage. If you're alert to it, you can see most people do this to try and sound intellectually superior to whoever they're debating (or everyone), and lots of people side with them literally because they sound smart. And she asked a lot of questions... Nothing wrong with asking questions, but you must have answers to the questions you're asked, not just turn it back to the other person.

She put her foot in it the instant she said "Hateful rhetoric directly correlates with or creates violence". Correlation is not causation. There is no one going about peaceably through life, who becomes violent ONLY because they heard someone express hateful rhetoric. They first witness violence, sometimes as a victim, repeatedly and over a long period of time, before they go and replicate that behaviour. The hateful speech may fan the fire, but it's not the fuel.

Ice cream sales tend to rise as drowning rates rise. Does this mean ice cream causes drowning!!!! No, they are correlated as in you can say an increase of ice cream sales is a sign that drownings may be on the rise as well. However, both of these are caused by increasing temperatures. @@artlover5060Sigh. It's called a circular definition and despite your protestations of it being an implied peccadillo in speech, it is fact a logically coherent and pragmatic way of speaking. It assumes a previous understanding of the word/s that is being asked to be explained. An example might be the multi-word term 'mobile phone, explicated as a 'phone that is mobile'. This is an appropriate and logical response, provided the correct circumstance is in motion. If you want to talk about poor debating skills, just consider the affirmative - Hate Speech isn't Real. Hate speech is CERTAINLY real. In fact, many people in this very comment section have uttered it. The question is how hate speech should be governed, IF at all. Crowder is a buffoon. As much as I despise radical leftist and their attempts to balkanize public discourse, Crowder and his acolytes are just irresponsible in their tactics. I wish I was on this campus. I would have destroyed him here AND his 'Donald Trump is not a racist' segment. Pssh. What an amateur.

You cannot be asked to answer for what exists in the minds of crazy people who act out evil in the name of someone else’s words. That’s why a direct call to action is where you draw the line. Otherwise they would stop conversations from happening like this eventually.

He clearly doesn't understand the concept of falsification. A scientific theory is never proved right, it's just never falsified. So Crowders claim is legitimate: He has a large set of observations that supports his claim, and none that doesn't. An opposing view should therefore present at least one examples that falsifies Crowders claim. This is basic Karl Popper scientific theory. The psychology guy is an accurate demonstration of what it means to be a marxist: You deny that the world has certain qualities that everyone can observe, and try to change the landscape so that it fits with you map. This is also the reason why every marxist society has failed: None are based on any scientific or logical construction that can be observed, and all of them are based on the most irrational and least developed parts of the human psyche.

I'm a debater, too. Sometimes, words like "like", "uhh", "well" help us to keep on track when we're talking and help us to not lose our train of thought. Using "filler words" is extremely common in debate, and unless you're REALLY overdoing it (which she wasn't) you're fine. As long as the other sides understands what you're trying to say, there is no point in bringing attention to it. Honestly, this particular comment section is full of ad hominem towards her, and for what? Imo she did a great job, kept an open mind, was eloquent and well-spoken. As if you could do any better.
@anthony452
@anthony452 4 жыл бұрын
@@anahrsak4793 You don't know how I would have done, so calm your tits. Debating isn't some supernatural skill that few people possess. Most people debate without the need for excessively using filler words. Most people use the filler "like" when they can't really articulate their points well and aren't very confident in what they are saying. People in college are taught not to do this and to always be self-aware. I remember a professor actually giving an entire lesson on the subject and why people do it. Better debaters pause and gather their thoughts before speaking, instead of running through talking points with filler words between the sentences.
@anahrsak4793
@anahrsak4793 4 жыл бұрын
@@anthony452 i agree that filler words aren't exactly a sign of a great debater, but my point was they aren't a sign of a bad debater either. She didn't stop or get lost while speaking and her points came across loud and clear, so in comparison her saying "like" a lot is irrelavant. (And I never said debating is some magical power, idk how you managed to take that away from my comment.) And excuse my tits for not being calm, I was writing the comment bc I was sick and tired of everyone bashing and insulting her in the comment section (and dare I say, being sexist).

@@anahrsak4793 She contradicted herself in points and argued for something she couldn't explain. She wanted legislation but couldn't provide anything more in depth than "I'm not a legislator, so I wouldn't know what the barriers should be." You ended the first statement by acting like I wouldn't be able to handle such a conversation as well as her. It would seem that you think debating is a great skill that most people aren't capable of if your first thought is that most people aren't up to this sub-par level of it. She didn't do well in the conversation and people called her on it in the comment section. The top comment about her says that she's a republican that doesn't know it yet. Most of the others are about how badly she handled the debate. You taking sexism away from comments that criticize her is laughable. Please, put that victim card back in the deck and present a better argument. Using the term "like" constantly in a debate is TOTALLY relevant when you start the conversation out by letting everyone know you're on the debate team. Filler words like "like" are actively discouraged from debate team coaches to English professors.

It’s almost like humans have feelings and we 99% operate off them and the right to freedom is based off a feeling of being treated with respect and dignity. Feelings exist beyond, anger and sadness you know. Us soldiers go to war because we love our country. That’s a feeling. I stand up for those who get bullied based off my emotions of empathy and compassion. Just because someone personal feelings are involved doesn’t automatically cancel them out of any debate.
