HAUL REVEAL from the College Dumpsters 2023!

All of this was headed to the LANDFILL! I can't believe the amount of waste, even though we do this every year it's still shocking how many perfectly good items are thrown away. We found all kinds of things from dorm room decor and furniture, to children's clothing and stuffed animals.
So much of what we found could have been donated, but unfortunately the only option the college provides during move out is giant dumpsters. No donation bins, no place to leave items for future students.. only huge haul away dumpsters for them to trash their stuff before heading home.
It's so upsetting to see and we hope that our videos not only encourage people to reduce waste but also to get out there and rescue items in their own city!
As always, thank you so much for watching and happy diving xoxo

When I was in college in the late 90s my school put huge crates in each dorm for anything that people wanted to get rid of. Other people could take from it if they saw something they wanted and then after everyone moved out it was sorted and donated. Food to the local pantries, etc. I went to a private college in Wisconsin.

Wish they did this at every college. My brother in law is going in his second year of college and he was searching the schools local curbs for students who were throwing out furniture. Lucky for him his school attracts rich kids a he’s finding really nice stuff

Universities and colleges are supposed to be about higher learning. It doesn’t seem that they have a lot to teach about sustainability and caring for the planet. It would not be difficult for them to set up a donation area at the dorms. Such a waste. I’m glad you both rescued so much stuff and saved it from going to the landfill. 🥰🇨🇦

Seems like some university groups should dave things that will be reused, like mirrors and bathroom caddies and resell. Maybe fraternity and sorority can store them. There should be a group that collects these. So many plastic buckets / trash etc. there could be a solution to this. Would have to notify students beforehand about available products. Seems like a dorm oriented garage sale during orientation would be cool

Multiply your college dorm haul times as many other dumpster-divers you meant out there this year. The amount of food was astonishing, the colleges or and serority could have done an end of the school year food drive to donate to local pantries...and get recognition.. and community involved... Great job!! Thanks for sharing with us ♡♡♡♡

Great haul!! If I can make a suggestion: have your garage sale about a week before classes start up, and sell back some of this stuff to the incoming college students! The Gen Z kids are into recycling big-time, and we all know that students are always looking for a deal.

Holy truckfulls! I am totally gobsmacked at how much you guys pulled out of the dumpsters saving our landfills! So much waste that these students generate. Shame on the colleges for not implementing some sort of program to donate and reduce waste on all these items. Thankful that you both are so deligent and dedicated to dumpster treasure hunting, I absolutely love the fun personality you both have and the generosity you have donating so much of your finds. Your smiles and laughter are infectious. Would love to just hang with you on a diving adventure! Blessings to you both!!

I used to manage a small apartment building that was near a community college. The suites were small and affordable so mostly rented by students. When their courses ended, their parents would usually come by car to get them. There was rarely any arrangements made for their excess belongings which wouldn't fit into the car. Our communal laundry room was very large so I would allow all of the excess belongings be left there (provided they were clean and not badly damaged) for the next set of incoming students to choose from. It was comparable to running a thrift store and actually a lot of fun. It's unfortunate that colleges don't provide the same type of service and keep all of those useable items out of the landfill. Great job, Kelly and Alex!
@estergardener5919

My college campus had a free store and at the end every semester there were tables in the laundry rooms in the dorms to put things you did not want. The day after college move out all that stuff was brought to the free store or local charities. I think every campus and community needs a free store. I am so happy you guys were able to rescue so much stuff.

I have witnessed this in Colorado at at least one University. They just have roll off dumpsters set up at school end. I agree...I get so angry that our Colorado Gov't requires re-usable bags or pay for the single use ones but don't address much bigger waste.

Same thing happens here in NY State. I live near Syracuse and there are a lot of colleges and universities around here. We also are required to use re-usable bags or pay for paper ones that rip before you even can get your groceries in your car. So frustrating!

For those that didn't go to college or have kids that didn't go or if so, didn't move into dorms, most of these items weren't thrown away by spoiled brats. It's actually stressful and sad bc they had to trash items that they really wanted to keep but could not. A lot of this can't go on planes or fit in cars. Universities nor organizations don't offer an alternative. There's no time between finals and the one official move out date for students to coordinate anything :-(

It’s unbelievable that the colleges haven’t implemented anything yet for when students move out. Especially when we have so many people who are less fortunate and have difficulty purchasing these items. I'm so glad you guys do this. As an American, this hurts my heart to see all of this thrown away. I can not fathom the waste having been such a frugal person all my life. Through common sense and yes, sometimes out of necessity. I rarely comment. But, I want to add in the future, I hope to see you two grab the lumber, wood and plastic buckets you see. I saw two videos where there were buckets you didn't bother with. One of them had a stack of four (appeared unused) buckets. I'm a gardener. I grow in the ground, in all sizes of planters and BUCKETS. They are also good for garden and backyard animal chores. I think they would be a good sale item at yard sales. Buckets especially have doubled in price. The lumber is a whole other story. I would buy them!! There are a lot more suburban gardeners now given the economy. I bet this would save someone trying to grow food on the cheap some money. Just thought I'd mention it. Keep doing what you're doing. It's so sad people are SO wasteful. Stay safe and God bless!

I love that you guys laid it all out. That’s as much stuff as if someone moved out of their 3 bedroom, 2 bath house and just threw everything away.

I can't wait to see the garage sale! If the shipping wasn't so expensive from the states to the UK, I'd have the clock and those big vases and the other bits to match. What you do guys is amazing! I love it. 😊😊

I have the white three-tier metal cart on the left in your video. It came from Target and cost me around $45. It is so wasteful that the students just tossed all of the things you found!

Love that you do this and save so much from going to the landfill. In my town here in Georgia we have a University. Every year I usually watch on line the yard sale page from the school for freebies and curb alerts. But this year there was so much less ads for pick ups to the community because a student came up with a great way to help others and not have the burden to get rid of things they couldn’t take with them. Several local groups came together and started to pick up these items from the students and then they are donated to local charities that offer help to people who may need these good and useful items. I thought this was a win for everyone in our area.

I believe the 3 tier shelves on wheels are what beauties use for all there curlers etc. I really enjoy the college move out videos. I think it's interesting that my 3 favorite divers/ pickers are from Texas! I love your videos! I also watch THRIFT KINGDOM( Edgar, the diver, is a really big fan of yours as well. He put out a cute video talking about you guys, and was very excited to get your autograph!😊😊) And I watch the Texan Picker, but he does big garbage picking.

My in-laws lived in a neighborhood that had been turned into rentals for college students and student housing built up all around them. FILs favorite activity after retiring was dumpster diving and curb pickups at the end of the spring semester. Parents would fully furnish apartments for their kids and kids drag everything to the curb or dumpster when moving out. He kept all of his kids and later grandkids apartments well furnished with nicer things than we could have afforded at the time.
