I’m a former truck driver,,,suggestion,,,while you are in the field press the blue button under “D” and that will put you in manual shift mode,,,after you get the truck rolling then press the up arrow to shift it into 2nd gear and it will stay in that gear until you press the up or down button,,,,after you pull out on the road then press “D” which will return the transmission back into automatic shifting

I have driven a 3 pedal automatic like yours and can offer some tips. When you are heavy in the field, select m (manual) and use the up and down arrows to shift. That way the shift holds no matter the throttle setting.

Also be aware that in a wet field, you are more apt to get stuck. Especially with an empty trailer. Try to use that manual up and down shift with the lockers engaged. DO NOT forget to turn the locker off on dry pavement. Practice makes better.

Thanks Laura nice to see how your farming operation works as a retired truck driver can I say when you are driving the manual just relax a bit the gears slide easier if you don't push the shifter ,and in the Auto drive it manually select manual and just pick your gears ,but we all had to learn so keep practicing Kid. Really enjoying this Harvest content ,so interesting ,Thank you Kym Adelaide

Other than sneezing on your videos, (which I find hysterical), that truck restart was easily one of the more priceless reactions on your face. Reminded me of the below zero blizzards of my youth in WI when it took everything in the world to get the frozen engine/transmission in a 1974 Buick to turn over. Most horrible feeling when your vehicle stalls out at the worst possible time and place. Clearly, you have the magic touch, Laura. Nothing more attractive in a woman than her confidence.

Pro tip for you. the high/low range will only happen when you pass through neutral. So, in 5th going to 6th, go ahead and move to high range before you actually shift. It makes finding that gate easier as your fingers aren't busy with other things.

Laura and Grant, A thoroughly enjoyable harvest episode... With drama of the non-starting diesel with an airlock(?), then stalling the truck on the road, and then the look of sheer terror 😬😰on Laura's beautiful face, waiting with huge suspense for it to start (she cranks well of course with a brand new battery), smooth stick shifting, a BNSF train switching on the tracks, Laura spilling a few kernels at the Co-Op, and Grant, a HUGE pile, LOL, that cracked me up!! A big undulating paddock of cut corn, tractors and trucks all around lit up with their lights, a beautiful southern Nebraska sunset, and finally, just the cutest tiny kittens 😸cuddling together! - Just perfect to watch after a day at work. Thank you so much!!! 😄 Blessings from way down south in NZL, David ❤

There should be a "Manual Mode" for your automatic transmission. When you're driving at relatively low speed around the farm, it will probably be easier for you to leave it in "Manual" and do your shifting (Up and Down arrows) manually by watching the truck's rpm. Upshift around 1400 rpm (this will vary from truck to truck; 1400 is usually a good place to start) and downshift around 1600. You'll get the hang of it with a little practice.😉

Don't you worry Laura, I was a driver for 13 years OTR, and once I got my solo status, it was still maybe a year and a half before I felt completely competent and comfortable with my skills and abilities. So, just be patient with yourself. You're doing great. I'll offer a little advice. Don't be so concerned with how you are driving, just drive. When you spend too much time stressing about things such as this, you'll improve very little. Just consider it as more practice, and proficiency will come. Nervousness fades over time. I did that, and it worked well for me. You're a very good driver, I can see it. So don't worry. Anyway, I've been watching your posts for a few years now I guess, and today I just became a subscriber to your channel. I really enjoy your content and other farmers as well. I grew up on a farm as a kid in South Eastern Iowa, near Fort Madison, and I miss it so much, you don't even know. I would love to work on another farm, and possibly one day own or lease my own. So with all of that, I wish you all (y'all's) all the best, and God Bless!!!! 🚜

If the jerking of the shifting gears is sliding your seat forward and back, there should be a lever/handle to flip, which will lock your seat into a solid position. The purpose of this option is to save your back and legs while on the road to slide with the bumps in the road. Just don't leave it locked in place all the time, or it will eventually leave a detent/wear spot and won't slide smoothly.

Good stuff guys. Hey Laura, "if ya can't find em, grind em". LOL I enjoy your show so much, decided to go back to SD to drive silage truck for a farmer the month of Sept. i'm 62 and had an absolute blast, 12-16 hours a day for 30 days. Driving in the fog and wet fields, got towed a few times. Seeing the wildlife, how things are run, hauling to the dairys' and no one is around. Just quiet and peaceful! You guys have the life! Did some sloppy math, around 600-700 million lbs.

What do pro truck drivers think on this system. Do they get angry when stuck/shearing the road with drivers who are inexperienced and don't have a license. Or is it a not issue. In my country you need a license regardless but you can drive on a international truck license. This upsets most local truckers because the overseas drivers just don't have the driving experience to be driving the big trucks and to make it worse they don't speak the same language so accidents are becoming more frequent.
@harperrex
@harperrex 10 ай бұрын
@@alexanderrobertson9297 In the USA, this usually isn't a problem, because the farm drivers are on the rural roads between the farm and the local elevator or processing plant, and don't drive near the commercial drivers, who are generally on the interstate highways.

Thanks for another great video Laura and Grant and gage. It was interesting and enjoyable. I have a suggestion for you on your truck. Leave it running if you are going to use it right away. Turning a diesel off and on for short periods can cause problems like you had. Just leave it idle. It will be fine. Just a suggestion. Nice to set gage on camera a bit more. Fine young man for his age. You are lucky to have him on the team. Running the auto shifts takes getting use too. There is a blue button I believe that you can divert the auto shift in and out of manual mode. Not real sure about that. Look in the book or ask a driver that knows the auto shift. Nice meal you fixed Laura. Harvest meals are the best. Need that energy. Working late in this video. That is harvest time for you. Teamwork and putting in the hours gets it done. Love that y’all film the mess ups. You guys can easily edit that out but you show it. Laura your face was priceless when you stalled out the freight liner. I would’ve been a little more pissed off than shock like you but you filmed it and the relief when it started was awesome. Keep up the good work y’all doing amazing n

Laura, you are learning! Some people can get in/on anything and drive it like they've did it their whole life, some have to take time and learn and get comfortable. Don't worry about what others think, they are not you and they are not the one in control. I think you are doing a great job, like you said, no accidents, no roll overs. No ditches. You are doing just fine. As time goes on you will get better. Even lifelong professionals kill their equipment sometimes. Keep it up. Glad to see harvest is going well.

learn about the transmission mode button. you can "lock" the transmission into one gear. also you need your heal on the floor to stop the bucking. Great job.
