From my take on what I see. Most of what you showed is vitrified clay tile with the bell ends used in municipal water and sewage applications. We have a 48" vitrified water line that skirts the back of our property that most likely came from this facility. It was installed by hand with labor from the WPA program and later finished with the invention of the Buckeye ditcher. Vitrified is clay-shale, most drainage tile is only clay. Off to your left at 19:08 in the video is a square tile with 6 runs used for utility cables buried in the city. At 19:19 the square 3 hole is chase for electrical used by masons, a good example in use is the Michigan Train Station being renovated by Ford. Vandals would smash the tile and remove the copper wiring. From the video I did not see any farm field drainage tile, majority is clay and vitrified used in municipal applications. Off to the left at 29:19 is a pile of gaskets. Bedding the pipe is crucial for longevity as rigid pipe only carries the load on the Top & Bottom. For bell end pipe you would under cut grade, usually bed with 4" of stone to accept the bell end. Did I say I'm old.....😁

Man that is really cool! There's something so interesting and spooky about a ghost factory. How could so much activity have happened there for so long and now it's just empty. I can't imagine the amount of money in material and labor that's still laying in that pipe yard! Thanks for taking us on the tour.

They are still produced over here, called company called Hepworth makes them, I presume the same way as used to be done there..... These are straight pipes joined by a simple plastic coupler with a rubber gasket to create the seal. Shame the plant was forced to close, some call it progress..... Looking forward to seeing the rest of the video Mike 👍🇬🇧

We have and old brick plant up here .. Last time I was in there the buildings were full of mililions of old tires, some one has a sawmill in one of the buildings. Same buildings etc.. There was a plan to shred the tires and make asphalt For roads. They never did. If you can picture buildings that big with tires to the rafters. West of Brazil ind. Brazil is a coal town. Early 1900s underground tunnels and none mapped. Surprise sink holes from collapsing tunnels. A sink hole swallowed both lanes of the old national road. Hiway 40. Hehe. Brazil now surrounded by strip mines... Indiana has some interesting history for sure. I've recently completed 80 trips around the Sun. Lots of miles.

Big thanks for all the varied content and adventures you've been taking us on with the detail of what we see. Allows us (me anyway) to feel like I'm actually there to witness what you're showing. This one, with the walk all throughout the factories and plants to the finished products, provided a realization of how time does not stand still. Like you said about a time capsule as you walked around made me think of the people actually pouring sweat within the confines of that place to make a deadline - and now look! Looking forward to the next video to learn even more. Thank you again for the walk back in time! Sonny (CT)

First off, confession, when I saw the title to this video, in thought, "whatever boring" hahaha. This video was a real treat for me. I am a "geek" about the background on manufacturing of products and process(s) like this. I am eagerly looking forward to the next video, regarding the history. It appears that this product and process, just ran its' course and died out... Something new came along "concrete", most likely... Kinda of sad for the community and owners. Thank you very much Mike.

Concrete box and round culverts still rule the larger drains but mostly plastic is used in high volume sales of 24” diameter and less. And, smokestack / chimney liners are now stainless steel. There were a lot of chimney failures and house fires with clay stacked liners.

That factory had enough clay to line Lake Superior! Thinking about finding that much purified clay makes my thinking muscles ache..🥴 In a former life, I was in nearly 100 factories. They covered the gamut from steel mills to food manufacturers. While it is interesting to look at the finished product and imagine how it was made... actually seeing the complicated processes that come together to produce the product is the real money shot for me. Thanks for the walking tour. Can’t wait for the guided tour! Excellent film production on your part too!

My Mom worked at Buick City when they built it. The majority of my family members worked for GM. Over 50 to 60 percent of my hometowns citizens did as well. I'm from the first farm town north of Flint. Mt. Morris. Buick promised the UAW union they'd never close it to get contract concessions. It's one huge sand field with soil still so toxic sickly looking weeds are the only things that'll grow in patches there. The CorpeRATe owned feds allowed the CorpeRATion they formed to demo all the GM factories to skimp on the ground toxin remediation of the properties. It's a huge part of the toxin exposure to the citizens of Flint and the surrounding area. On highly windy days the sand blows everywhere. I still have family living there and they've been fighting the RepubliKKKlan legislature and Govenor for decades to seek fed funding assistance cleaning it up. The entire city is one huge Superfund toxic waste site thanks to almost a hundred years of irresponsible toxin management. Check it out on Goggle Earth.

I love exploring old factories. The machinery is incredible. Huge pieces of cast iron that seem much bigger than they needed to be. And 0 safety. These folks worked right next to giant pumps and generators and flywheels. And that's just the way it was. The sloss furnaces in Birmingham Alabama is an awesome place. You wonder how people didn't die from machinery accidents every day. But there were 2 deaths the whole time it was in operation when a steam pipe burst and scalded them.

You can tell you have a passion for the history of this country's industrial development. It sure doesn't hurt that you have a nexus with your dad working there. Years ago with all the closing of the military bases here in California, a friend and his two brothers and I had the opportunity to go on Mare Island and explore several of the buildings and dry docks. It was much like what you experienced in this video, the remains/decay of what once was the life blood of this country, not much different then what you witnessed. A nice addition to the skid steer would be one of those grease gun holders. Then put a backup gun in there. I’m gonna get one for my loader just because.

You contact the man and then you meat someone there with your truck trailer and whatever YOU are using to load the stuff you pay then YOU load it its called Can Clay if you are someone who lives a bit away from there the only way to be worth it would be a business owner whose going to buy a thousand of them to haul back to his property and use in his escavating company some what and then he makes money off of his awesome purchase and wow you know if he got a job that was 500 feet he would make a lot of money from that just amazing thumbs up my friends
