Scott hauls round bales from the field to the barn with the New Holland T6030 and the 45' trailer. Plus, the hay fields are fertilized, and the center-pivots and water reels are running again.

Thanks again for a very good video the camera work is great. I really appreciate being able to see you folks work on a daily basis, both the rewarding and the frustrating. It really helps if you have a mechanical aptitude because with all the different machinery from waterwheels repairing round baler broken belts you need it. The two of you work as a team and the respect you have for each other is obvious and very real. I get much more satisfaction watching North Texas Hay than commercial TV because I learn something. Thank you for sharing.

Love the video! I worked for fire/ems beginning in 1975, & on my days off i created- founded an auto repair business. Tried it for a bit with hired help, but didn't need the additional drama. Also, the quality of repairs didn't suit me. So, i understand your reasoning on keeping your operation at a manageable size. Lol. Kim, your composition skills with that camera are excellent! One of my dads hobbies was photography, which rubbed off on me. I've been taking pics most of my life, & really enjoy seeing your results- Well done!!

Thanks, Belinda. I enjoy taking pictures and video, but I definitely consider myself a beginner. I'm honing my skills for future grandchildren. ;) By the way, our middle son is a paramedic/firefighter, and I'm a former NICU nurse. It's a tough but rewarding line of work - more like a calling. Thank you for all you've done! ~ Kim

After 15 years of doing my own baling and 5 years when I added a large barn, I have some suggestions. BTW, I also handle 2 bales at a time. First, proprioceptive44 has the right idea with the trailer at 90 degrees. Think of it this way - the trailer position in the video requires tractor to turn 180 degrees each time. With trailer at 90, only a turn of 90 is required. However I back trailer up towards barn so a turn of 45 is required. Saves more time. Second suggestion is to stack bales in the barn - 3 rows if possible. Third suggestion is if you have a 2nd tractor (& operator), one tractor pulls trailer and one stacks bales. This is what my wife and I do. Fourth suggestion that I learned THIS year is that if I "pair up" bales before taking the trailer out, the trailer time is greatly reduced. Further, if you line up not just 2, but 8 or more, trailer loading is amazingly fast.
@NorthTexasHay6 жыл бұрын
All good suggestions, thanks

Park the trailer at 90 degrees will reduce unloading time considerably. Load back turn, forward unload, back turn, forward load etc etc
@dwighthickerson41066 жыл бұрын
proprioceptive44 I was going to say the same thing. I have stacked at least 10000 rolls in barns.

It's funny how one can cut hay all summer long and yet still watch other people cut their hay. It's kinda funny how that works. I'm getting ready to cut second cut this coming week hoping I can get it put up without rain.

Watch your videos a good bit. The efficiency you use is impressive. How many acres of hay do you all make ? We make around 700 acres with first and second cutting no irrigation though. Get enough rain here in the eastern Panhandle of WV. Keep the videos coming.

Slick operation! How many acres do you farm? I think I read somewhere that you have 150 acres, which doesn't seem like very much for a year round operation.
@NorthTexasHay7 жыл бұрын
Keith Brettell it's all about yield for me. I use to do around 600 acres but my quality began to suffer. My goal is to get to 80 acres and make 25,000 bales. I don't want any employees and that includes family, other than my wife helping me.
@vitalityFarms6 жыл бұрын
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I read you don't stack bales because of deforming. But with the quad spike could you stack the bales if you wanted too? I'm thinking of getting the quad spike but I would need to stack them in the barn. Thanks
