AbandonedPKB presents a tour of the haunted Kmart in South Parkersburg, WV. This store closed in April 2017 as part of the massive store closures of Kmart and Sears. The store is rumored to be haunted due to a 1969 fire that took place on the site of the store which claimed the lives of 12 members of the Bailey family.

This K-Mart was opened in 1975 and was the first building to occupy this shopping center. McDonald's has been here since around 1978, and Kroger opened in around 1981.

12 ppl died in the fire. Susie Baily, 15, was one of them that set the fire. Angry at her parents because they wouldn't allow her to date her 19 year old cousin. She got away with 12 1st degree murders

You got south and north sides confused! South side is not ruff at all compared to north end.
@AbandonedPKB
@AbandonedPKB 5 жыл бұрын
I disagree with that. There are parts of the northside that are rougher than the southside but overall the south is much worse. However, I want to clarify that what you’re referring to as the north end is just north of the Little Kanawha River. North End is a distinct neighborhood.

Apparently, you have never heard of the Bailey house that sat on this sight before Kmart was built. Lights went on and off by themselves. Thing's were all over the floor after being stocked the night before. Voices would come through the intercom. This was when I worked here in the early 90's.

The Bailey house was a bit behind Kmart. Not even on the property I believe. There’s a book you can get in the library called “Death is no Stranger” There’s a part 1 and 2. One of the books talks about the incident in great detail.

I have both of those books written by David Morehead ...they can be purchased at J &M Bookstore and People's News . So worth every cent - and so full of information about crime in Parkersburg in earlier years . Susie Bailey was dating her cousin , and her father didn't like it and told her to stop . She got mad , and , with the help of her brother ( Roger ) , threw gasoline around in the house one night , and set it on fire . All died except for Susie , Roger , and the grandfather . The police were getting ready to charge the grandpa for setting the fire ...and Roger stepped up and told the truth about how the fire was set . Buy or borrow these books ...you'll be glad you did ! So worth reading 👍

Very cool. This is Robert from Mid Ohio Valley Paranormal. Never heard of this Kmart being haunted but I have investigated the old Dills building downtown several times and I've heard many times that the Walmart in Spencer definitely has activity. Especially in the rear of the store. Supposedly is it related to the many deaths and trauma associated with the old Spencer state hospital and asylum that sat in that location until it was torn down when the Walmart was built. I was actually living in calhoun County at that time and saw it develope monthly until it was finished. Soon after it opened, employees started talking about weird feelings, things moving by themselves, voices, cold spots, all the usual indicators of paranormal activity. As far as I know, it continues until this day.

The fire occurred in 1969 I was a student at Washington jr. high and I remember the class talking about the fire some of the kids knew the family. What was freaking everyone out was that the Bailey kids were smiling in a newspaper photo at the fire. One girl who was related o4 a close friend said that the kids were mistreated they didn’t eat supper many nights, generly a bad situation. The police later said the kids started the fire, but I don’t remember what happened to the children. But you should be able to find out at the local library or at the Parkersburg newspaper office. I have a suggestion for a story. In the summer of 1969 a Vietnam soldier who had returned home and had shot up the town, and had fired at a couple of my friends at the time.

I remember that Kmart had some beautiful cashiers in 2016. One morning had to rush out there to send money. I didn't have time to shower or even brush my teeth. While I stood in line at the service desk, a beautiful cashier with dark hair came up and stood my side but couldn't say anything being so filthy. I went back out there several times to try and find her but I never seen her again.

@AbandonedPKB
@AbandonedPKB 6 жыл бұрын
You can have your opinion about the condition of the neighborhood but you're wrong to tell me that I can't have an opinion on customer service based on my own experience. If they didn't want something bad to be said about them, they should have acted better. There's no excuse for the way I was treated. Because of that I never went back so that is the only experience I had at that store to share. If they were like that with me, they were like that with others. Maybe if they had better attitudes they wouldn't have driven so many people away. There's a reason that's the only store that closed.

Here is little local ghost story for you........Years ago, there was a story in the Sunday paper with a picture that was taken inside the living room of a local house somewhere just outside of town. The picture was of family members (maybe kids) sitting on a couch. At the end of the couch was a window. Looking in the window was a man with a goatee, wearing a suit coat and tie, and a derby hat that would have been a hat that would be normally seen in the late 1800's. This was back before digital photography when you took pictures with film and had to have it developed to get your pictures. The person who took the picture swore that when the picture was taken there was nobody standing outside the window, and certainly not someone dressed in 1800's attire. The man wasn't seen until the pictures were developed and the photographer looked through the pictures for the first time. Several pictures were taken where the window showed, but only one had the man in it. The story caused a bit of a stir because the person (ghost) could be seen clearly in the picture and the people that lived there said they didn't recognize the man and couldn't explain how the picture could possibly be taken without noticing the guy looking in the window at them.

My mother in law worked there and yes, a lot went on.... she didn't even believe in such things. Items would be moved from the shelves and then be stacked in the middle of the floor, they heard old radio shows playing at night when no radio was on, often ball games, if they had merchandise to put on the shelves -- they would then find it knocked on the floor.. they would hear a woman talking over the loudspeaker who should not have been there.. this was at night when they stocked shelves and no one else was there. It would be interesting to know if Mr. Bailey listened to ball games or the old man who escaped. I bet one of them did.

The fire happened in '69 the oldest daughter did it with the help of her brother becouse her parents didn't want her to have a relationship with her own cousin which she was in love with and drove her to set the house on fire with everyone in it the grandfather was the only survivor ....wicked day in history 😣😞

First off you need to get your story straight my mother didn't start the fire her brother and her sister did so her sister could marry her cousin

Abondoned Kmarts are all over the country. People dying on the property doesn't make it haunted. To say this thing is haunted is stupidity. Maybe it gets some clicks. Kroger should tear down the Kmart, and build a new Kroger, and use old Kroger to add inline space like other side. When companies toy with poor people God puts them out of business. Your air mattress fiasco in not getting a refund or exchange might be "the reason" God put them out of business. You never know. I hate Kmart. The guy who tried to rescue Sears/ Kmart via the merger, Berkowitz, was a total loser/ a compete dunce. He thought he'd create a winner by combining two losers, and what he got instead was one big loser.
