I believe it's only like this from around the end of September until the end of December. Then it goes back to the original. They've been doing this for at least 10 years or more.

I don't know how they do it but they managed to come up with something new every year. Although my favorite gingerbread house has to be the one with the Jack in the Box in 2007

Sure, the Haunted Mansion without the overlay is fine around Halloween, but I like to think that the overlay can be a little bit spooky. For example, there's the giant man-eating wreath in the Corridor of Doors, and that can be pretty scary if you're not prepared to see something like that when you ride.

The whole reason the overlay exists is because it, and the movie, are a mash-up of Halloween's take on Christmas. The more logical reason why is because the overlay takes time to put up and take down- shutting the ride down for a week or two. The time it is set up (September right as School starts) and it is taking down (January) are two of the slower times for the park. Which means less people disappointed the ride is closed.

If you want some kind of idea, Tokyo does a similar overlay with their Haunted Mansion.

I know...but the Tokyo mansion doesn't have the Escher-esque staircases. They're like the WDW mansion,but prior to the 2007 refurbishment.

@@themeparkreview Your video is under 8 minutes, so unless you edited footage? That tells me the Ride has been sped up. I've been on Haunted Mansion holiday since 2001. I remember how long the queue line used to be from 2001 to 2005 (and how Christmas Scare-ols were used to entertain those waiting in line outside). Grab a copy of the CD, the spiel for the ride is 13 minutes. That is longer than your video footage (and I did say you have beautiful footage).

IPat this is the Disneyland version of the ride. They don't this at WDW if that's where you went.

There's been a long-running debate over which holiday it's more suitable for pretty much since it first came out, with a bunch of people insisting it's much more Halloween than Christmas, while others argue it's clearly more Christmas. This caters more to the mindset that Nightmare Before Christmas has enough Halloween in it to not feel completely out of season by the time it opens in early September. If you're one of the people that considers NBC more Christmas than Halloween, then it could definitely seem too early.

Seina Kimura it's a Halloween AND Christmas movie! It takes a full month to set this all up. I prefer visiting in October.

Burton was only a producer, Henry Selick was the director. He didn't like his name plastered all over it because people assume he was the director when he wasn't and they only put his name all over it because he was more well known than Selick and they wanted to sell more tickets. Tim Burton is proud of NBC and always gloats about the passion and work that went into it. Also I'm not sure where you heard he detests musicals, he's made several over the years after NBC (Sweeny Todd), why would he do that if he hated musicals? Nightmare before Christmas is a Halloween movie, this debate has been put to rest years ago Selick specifically stated that it is a Halloween movie. It is halloween characters doing halloween things in a christmas setting. It even came out just in time for HALLOWEEN, not Christmas.

Pt two stands, as I own the DVD for *Sweeney Todd*, and it includes a featurette of interviews with Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter, and the latter states explicitly that he did it as a favor to her, as she loves musicals. He's not fond of them according to her. Unless of course she's telling blatant lies, though I would not see the point. The previous two films he directed had songs in them, but they weren't musicals in the traditional sense. One of them had no songs outside of scenes where the stage was clearly set for theatrics, as only bored characters without much to do outside of work are doing any singing, and the other has less than five in the whole film. On point, he doesn't like being so highly credited for this film, as his involvement in the creative process is nonexistent beyond writing the poem that inspired it. As one who largely funded it, Touchstone/Disney highly rode on his name when advertising the film regardless of how much/little he actually made it, and he was and is highly annoyed by that. I'd be annoyed too if the thing I'm arguably best known for is something I was scarcely involved with. You don't see people praising *James* and *Coraline* and plastering his name all over them. All this said, I liked this overlay the first time I saw it, but the second time onward it wore thin with me. I like the regular HM more, and don't honestly see why this has to be the thing for much of the year.

@@TheNotverysocial why are you under the impression that Tim had little involvement with NBC? He had a huge involvement, not just the poem. His artistic influence is present heavily throughout the movie, he pretty much was the brain child for the whole thing, and Danny elfman was only brought on because of Tim. Even though he didn't have a huge involvement with the process or directing, it wouldn't have ever existed without Tim a quick wiki can prove that. And I can assure you Tim is not best known for NBC, I'd argue Edward scissorhands or Beetlejuice is wayyy higher up there on the list. Tim is very proud that the idea of NBC he had for so long came to fruition. This idea you have that Burton is ashamed of his involvement and name on NBC is rediculous. He spent years trying to get it in production, he produced it. The only think he didn't like was that selick didn't get more recognition. And again you've yet to explain to me why he continuously makes musicals of he dislikes them so much? Literally 2019 Dumbo is going to be another musical directed by Tim Burton. I'm pretty sure Tim doesn't mind directing musicals.

@@Auditioneere Then I exaggerated, and HBC likes to make things up. Financing something is very significant, but it's not synonymous with creativity. I think many folks often forget putting money somewhere, and actively getting involved are separate entities, and confuse them too often. I personally like stop motion, the process of taking individual snapshots one frame at a time and ever so slightly moving a dummy or other thing from one to the next to simulate real time motion. But the feel of it, the ambiance, the imagery cannot be translated to live action, to live actors, to animatronics. Some things carry their own aura by design, and altering the medium doesn't do it justice however they went about it. I took issue with the fact his name was on it as opposed to Selick, and yet there are many who will put that at the top of their lists without knowing the facts. I find the film fun in aspects, but I wouldn't include it in my top ten Tim Burton films list on that principle as so many would. Writing what inspired it and having dummies based on preexisting sketches are indirect involvement. He seems one who would acknowledge a team effort, which is more than many commoners would. There are several people responsible for the tone of most of his films, and Depp and Elfman are two of them. Misconceptions can arise from associations, and the artists basing their dolls on his sketches is one such thing.
