The fear of abandonment is one of the most damaging fears to many. A form of anxiety, a fear of abandonment often starts to form in childhood for those who have it. Usually, abandonment issues begin when one has experienced some sort of trauma or loss already, thus developing a fear from an already traumatic loss. Each individual's experience is different, with some mental health experts theorizing that an abandonment wound can arise due to challenges with past relationships, troubling social and life experiences, or interruptions in one’s development of certain cognitive and emotional capacities. So, do you suspect you may have a fear of abandonment? Watch along.

Being diagnosed with BPD and having an intense fear of abandonment is rough. 8 months strong with the guy who isn’t afraid to call me out for worrying too much and be there for when I need a shoulder to cry on. Even after all my mood swings and mistakes he still cared and won’t let me go. It’s so difficult and I know I’m not alone in these problems. Hope everyone can also learn to reconcile with this and find the right person :)

I feel like I might be like this. For me, though, I find that I’m clingy, people pleasing to the point of annoying to those around me, and feel the need to always help others with their emotional problems and not thinking of/covering up my own. I’m a very open person naturally about how I feel so sometimes it sounds pushy. it genuinely makes me feel good to see others feeling better, but I’m so drained after. Does anyone else feel this way?

I've been helping my friends with whatever feelings they've have too and because of this, I haven't been taking care of myself and have been losing the balance. You need to make sure you have the time to relax and the time to socialize and help. It's a cycle I go through but I'm making sure I heal.
@introvertedspaz8085
@introvertedspaz8085 3 жыл бұрын
I feel like most people generally have moments of being "people pleasers" because of our social nature, so it's probably pretty normal. Like you said though, try to keep a good balance. Once people start taking advantage of your generosity, cutting them off would be better.

I honestly don't know if I have a fear of abandonment or a fear of being manipulated and played with, or a mixture of both. It makes me scared that my partner may not have the same feelings for me as I do for them. And I feel like lately they've been getting a bit more cold towards me. And honestly. It scares me. A lot.
@MAC3598
@MAC3598 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there ! First of all don't be scared and ask your partner if there's a problem with them and if there is try to convince him/her that you only want to help her/him. Well I'm not in a any kind of relationship but as a human being i think i came out really cold towards people around me when i'm stuck in some kind of problem and they judge me as a cold person. But seriously though i love them but....well it's just wrong time to talk to me. I... hope this helps your concern.

Another reason is you got abandoned in the past. I got abandoned a lot and my friends didn't understand my huge fear of being abandoned so I cut them out of my life since the friendship was getting toxic too anyways. Not only they didn't understand, but they also worsened it. I still miss my best friend but I'm slowly moving on and slowly getting my life back together.

Dang, this was uploaded on the date when my girlfriend started being unsecure and emotionally distant... Now, about a month later, she confirmed that she's afraid of being hurt if someone leaves her, and she got emotionally distant from me because she's afraid I'll leave her too... I wish I could help her, and to change things...

I don’t have to watch a video or having signs to know I’m afraid of abandonment. I’ve had this fear ever since I was 5 and now I’m 12 and I’m still afraid cause whenever I do something wrong my mother always threatens me that she’ll disown me or my siblings if we don’t do what she wants...🥲 Me editing: holding back tears because sister is here😞😓🙁

I'm also 12 and sometimes in the past when I did something wrong my mom would get mad at herself. And since I spend a lot of time with my grandma she would always say "I'll just leave and you can live with your grandmother, is that what you want?" Thankfully she never left, but that terrified me. But she has been working on herself and doesn't do that anymore.

Here's a story about how I have had this- when I was 7 years old I called the cops before school because my dad was outside. I thought he left me forever and dialed 911. This is just one example! It's strange because, I don't think I lost anything as a child. I definitely don't think I have this anymore though.

It's comforting in a sense to hear a discussion on this by someone that isn't trying to tell me what I'm doing wrong (according to how they would handle things). I've been wishing to have a girlfriend for the past two decades because I wanted some constant in my life that would care about me and actually want to be around me. Now I'm too afraid to approach dating because I don't want to smother a woman with being needy and clingy, wanting to make up for the years and years and years of wanting to hug and hold someone and to not be starved for human affection anymore. I'm afraid if I ever do find someone, that they'll catch on to my lack of relationship experience and leave me for someone else. It's so incredibly difficult to fight this day in and day out. It makes me feel guilt for wanting to love and be loved.

Personally I have a fear of abandonment for as long as I can remember, but it has mainly projected onto my friendships, rather than my romantic relationships. Of course my fear leads to issues in the romantic aspect too, but... All I`m trying to say is we shouldn`t focus only on the intimate relationships, because fear of abandonment can also affect the way we interact with our frineds, family, coworkers, etc. We should take all of that into account before we try solving our problem.

When I was a child, my best friends family moved away and she went to school and got new friends. Any time I asked her to hang out, she said she was meeting w her new friends. She said she was pretty popular in her school. My mother told me to stop calling her so I did. Many years passed and I had bffs on and off but one person in particular hur me alot. Sometimes she would be the nicest person and let me very close to her and sometimes she would just push me away and talk to other people. It continued for a pretty long time and i got really bitter about it. I found it almost impossible to forgive her, especially when she didn't listen to my side of things. She often invalidated my feelings and it was very hard to deal with. After those incidents I was really scared of commiting to a friendship but it was the thing I wanted the most. I craved meaningful friendships. In the spring of last year I started to hang out with a girl and we had a lot of fun. I was so excited and wanted to be bffs with her. I wanted us to be friends forever but I also feared that she would abandon me. And then, in the fall, she did just that. Se never really seemed to know why but I think it was because I clinged on her so hard. She knew she would hurt me and destroy me by letting me go and I'm pretty sure distressing to her to have such a responsibility. And now that I think about it. It wasn't fair either. I've done some soul searching lately and discovered all these things about myself and it has been eyeopening. I always considered if the problems in my relationships were my fault or were the people around me just spiteful. Was the universe just mean to me? But now I know and I'm so happy. I'm gonna work on it and I know I will get past it. I just have a question to you. Should I talk about these things to the last friend I told you about? I really don't know if it would be weird or...?
@miahlove6292
@miahlove6292 3 жыл бұрын
If you feel that talking to her about these things will put you in a better headspace then I say go for it. The worse thing is to wish you would have said something when you had the opportunity but you never said anything. If it’s imperative to you that she’s knows about how you feel, then yes you should tell her. However, if her response is not what you expect or even if there is no response at all, dont press the issue, because you’ve already spoke your truth.

One I found as I really go through this can be seen through nightmares, this is helpful in noticing most issues. Nightmares have been shown to be views of anxiety, fears and in large cases depression, without them I would have no ideas of most of these things.

OOF this hit hard. I know I have abandonment issues. I figured it out a few years ago. Because of them, I've never been able to get really close with people. I feel like they're going to leave me or not care enough to put the effort in anyway. I especially relate to the picking of flaws. Whenever I feel like a relationship with someone could actually go somewhere I start seeing all their flaws clear as day and get deterred. I absolutely hate it and I always feel so guily, but at least now I know I'm not the only one! Thanks Psych2Go!

This is real and most likely is tearing one down. Having so many horrible events like; Abandoned Rape the whole summer when I was 13 At 9 my father was dragged out of our house. By the Sheriff Department, one of them ended being Step Father. So many different types of abusive behavior, sister's, mother's friends every one that comes around. But the real tragedy is someone starts something, like yelling at me saying I'm going to be shown the door, lying that I did something and I wasn't even around..... The list goes on and on. May Love and Peace be within your soul. Take Care dearest friends.
