We did that all through high school in the 80,s it was supposed to make your neck stronger…No one ever had a neck injury all 4 years 🤷♂️

Did that in high-school from 91-95'. My father was the strength coach and defensive coordinator and ny linebacker coach. He had been doing it since the 70s! We did all 4 sides 12 long seconds each before we hit. We partnered with eachother though.

Naw never seen that stretch but its stretching the neck. This was my study at Tulsa Exercise Sports Science. And the cool thing about this profession like strength and conditioning vs other degrees and profession its a science so theres always new things like stretches, drills, and exercises that ppl come up with or discover that works different muscles in the body outside of the main ones normal ppl do when they go to the gym. I mean literally finding excercise for areas like the IT band, etc etc. Areas that normally dont get focused on but upon developing these areas strengthens the athlete. I wish i stayed and finished my degree, was only 22 hours short. Very very interesting field of study

This is more stretching than it is strengthening. When I wrestled we did a few neck strengthening exercises, but we always stretched our necks at the start and end of practice.

@@bobbyhirsh1867 true, this is def more of decompression of the cervical region but dead hangs also indirectly target the cervical region by releasing the thoracic region as they are connected. This is def more direct on the neck though like you said. A a better comparison could be inversion which better targets the cervical region compared to dead hangs

They don't know nothing about this!!. We did this stretch in high school ('85-'88). Each group would pair up with a teammate(in my case the Oline) and do it. We had zero neck injuries. Im willing to bet their coach has 30 plus years of experience. Awesome job!!
