I've definitely spent my fair share of time trying to make decluttering fun...for myself, my kids, my students. Well, here's a hearty list of 25 ways that you can gamify decluttering. Decluttering games can make the process more of a fun challenge than a frustrating one.

This was excellent. I started to do some basic Swedish Death Cleaning in 2022 but really didn't take it that seriously. After living in the same home for 53 years there is a mountain of unused and unneeded things as well as collections that have accumulated. My mother saved everything and when she passed I got boxes of my old school artwork, books, old roller skates, dolls, etc. that came into my house. The same happened when my brother and my husband passed. These things just got put unopened in the garage and basement. I ran both a wholesale and a retail business for over 30 years. Last January I had to clean out a warehouse and then in July the retail store when it had to close unexpectantly. All of that unsold inventory has to counted, stored, sold, or donated. I procrastinated all last year. Now I am determined to get serious about moving things out. I am making a game out of it and to make me stick to it, I told my family what the plan is. I have a monthly planner where I keep track of every item that is donated, trashed, and sold with the goal of removing 4000 items this year. I record those figures on a spread sheet. Since Jan. 1 I have removed 623 items with 68 of them being sold. I have been a seller on eBay for over 17 years so it was not that hard for me to list these items. There is a monetary reward because in the past 90 days I have netted almost $3500. Sometimes it blows my mind what people will buy, like those old rusted roller skates, old magazines, and sewing patterns from 50 years ago. I have gotten $10 for old Dell paperbacks that my mother paid 25 cents for in 1957. I think I might just up my goal to 6000 items.

Wow! When I saw the title 25 ways to gamify decluttering I didn't see how you could possibly come up with 25 ways, but you did! This is a great resource I'll save for when I need some motivation! Thank you!

Did have this light bulb moment this weekend when realised can spend hours playing puzzle games but have physical and digital declutter to do and could be very similar to solving a puzzle. Excellent tips ❤

Thanks for all these ideas. I did set a time limit for myself before I have to finish a certain area and also use a timer for at least 10 minutes a day. Last year I tried to do the challenge of 1 thing on day 1, 2 things on day 2 and so on till 31, but I wanted to get rid of a lot more so on day 1 I got rid of at least 30 items straight away and went on doing that at least for 31 days 😂.
