Having a look at PyDPainter and comparing it to Deluxe Paint on the Amiga

Күн бұрынIn this weeks episode of this week in retro I got a tip about PyDPainter, an attempt to create a usable clone of Deluxe Paint from the Amiga in Python using PyGame. This program was new to me and in this video I tried to go back and forth between the two to give it a brief test. It may be the best pixeler for making iff-pictures for Linux.

Thanks for your mention of my project PyDPainter. By the way, I pronounce it Pied Painter like Pied Piper. I just added an issue to add full-screen support as suggested in your video.

Thanx a lot. The lacking of a real fullscreen mode was really my only dislike with it. I have tested it a lot yesterday and no problems what so every, and it covers all the parts I use in dpaint! Will for sure follow and test updates as they come. Great work! Also thanx for clearing up on the pronunciation. That must be a cringe moment for you when it is said in a completely other way.

Well this is a win for YT's suggestions. My 6 year old girl loves drawing on my Amiga in PPaint and I have yet to find anything simple enough for a kids that isn't a dumped down kids "toy" app for drawing. I was thinking about setting up an Amiga emulation on the kid's laptop just to start PPaint or DPaint IV and nothing else so they can draw easily there. This is brilliant!

Version 1.0.9 is out ! Drag and drop to open files. File requestors remember the last path. Bugs fixes. Trace (hold CTRL while drawing...). New fill from center gradient mode. F11 to switch on/off fullscreen.

I have no computers with Windows on them so I will not be able to. However I can make a how to on the setup of the Amiga side of it in. In an emulator like Amiberry or FS-UAE if that helps?

absolutely, it is in my plans. I am still working on how to make one that don't become too long. Considering making it a two part. One for the technical part of it (the launching of programs) and one for the looks (which really is just theme, font and some config of the dock in xfce.

@@proteque either it's my headphones or your micro, perhaps my headphones are cutting the low frequencies

@@vertigoz ah. I see. It could also be that i recorded with my phone and not used a proper microphone. Will do some testing before making the next video.

@@proteque the sound is fine initially. It's when the video goes to the screen capture view. It then sounds like you're talking down a drainpipe. Great video, though.
