are you someone who finds it frustrating that you haven't found your one passion in life yet? maybe that's because you have multiple passions! you might be a #multipotentialite , or #multipassionate (also known as scanner, renaissance person, polymath, generalist, we seriously need to agree on just one name)
i know in today's society it feels like this is a weakness, but maybe there's a way for you to embrace your #multipotentiality and find peace with yourself.
i hope this video helps :)

Love the term 'multipotentialite'. It's a hard life to live at first. There were definitely parts in my life where I felt behind or just plain incompetent. But I've since found that when the odd pursuits start playing into each other, truly novel opportunities open up. I'm still trying to 'figure things out' lol - but maybe that's simply what a lifestyle of curiosity is all about.

Oh, I absolutely relate with your journey!! Doesn't it feel great to find a word that finally captures what you've been feeling? Also, totally get that it sometimes seems like we're falling behind when we compare ourselves to the norm, but I’m thrilled to hear about the novel opportunities you’re discovering as your passions intersect! It’s comforting to remember that being in a constant state of curiosity and figuring things out isn’t a shortfall-it’s part of who we are and can actually make us happier if we embrace it! Let's keep exploring and being curious :)

Just today alone, I had the thoughts "should I try to get into fashion?", "should I try to play my guitar more often, upload more guitar youtube videos and write a song?", "should I write about this subject for my thesis over this one?", "should I change my diet?". And just generally, I've questioned whether I should become a scientist, or a spiritual teacher, a musician, a clinical psychologist or counselor, a videomaker, an entrepreneur, or work for some organization that fits my values. I think I fit that term :D

Yes!! This happens to me all the time these brilliant ideas about what I want to do or what I want to be pop into my head, haha, it never stops! When I was doing my masters I had a terrible time trying to figure out my research topic, simply because I wanted to focus on too many things :( What is your current idea??
@raz0rcarich99
@raz0rcarich99 15 күн бұрын
@@genie_hawk Hehe I see. My current idea is to compare meditators who are motivated by religious/spiritual motivations ("spiritual enlightenment") with meditators who are motivated by stress reduction to see if they experience different effects from meditation and whether these differences can be measured in the brain (e.g. Default Mode Network activation). I study behavioral neuroscience if that wasn't clear hehe. So far, it seems a bit optimistic for a master's thesis according to one of my potential advisors. However, the same advisor actually has a pilot study exploring the relationship between music and mindfulness (I'm hesitant to reveal too much about it hehe), and he is offering me the opportunity to perform the full-blown study on that. And I'm very happy about that, because that research question overlaps so much with my personal experiences, as well as other ideas I've thought about as research questions. But I'll have to wait and see when we discuss it a little further. What was your thesis about? :D
@genie_hawk
@genie_hawk 9 күн бұрын
@@raz0rcarich99 That's very cool!! I love any kind of behavioral studies that include real brain activity, we need this kind of research! I can definitely see your multipassionate nature haha both subjects hold so much meaning to you, it must be tough choosing one to put more energy into. Can you do both?? I was interested in the gamification of education since it's something ESL teachers are almost forced to do, haha, and I neded up narrowing it down to motivation responses in the gamification of classroom management, trying to figuring out whether or not motivation in learning decreases over time due to the novelty effect of gamification wearing off. I'm honestly a huge lover of games so for me, gamification and learning go hand in hand, but I think it definitely needs more attention and research to see if it's beneficial in the long run for our kiddos.

My specialty is to be a hospital physician and I'm good at that, but I work in a large business-dominated health system where I feel quite constrained. My real passion is physics, mathematics, philosophy, music--Quadrivium type things. This is what I actually wish to pursue. I do pursue it, actually, and have some unique ideas. I don't present my physics ideas, however, because I have this belief that I have to be specialized in mathematical physics which I am not!

Have you heard of Karl Friston? He's a psychiatrist & neuroscientist by training, went to med school and had contributions in algorithms for neuroimaging and now he's pursuing this one idea called the "free energy principle" that integrates a lot of ideas from mathematical physics (can even get quite technical, involving variational calculus, probability theory & statistical mechanics), philosophy, neuroscience and artificial intelligence. You may want to look him up.

Thank you! A lovely example of synchronicity today. Weird how your channel has landed on my lap today. I needed to hear something like this to help me let go of unproductive need to choose one path, or at least to know there are others who have many interests such that it feel like you have none. Everyone says follow you passion, but what do you do when you have so many passions which pull you in so many directions. Good luck with your channel. I need to get mine going.
