Hi Skaters, Pivots are such a hard skill. What works for one skater may not work for another so here is another way of thinking about Pivots which may help you unlock this tricky skill.

thank you for demonstrating this on softer wheels! I have 80A wheels that came with my skates and I skate outdoor; it definitely helps to see how much I need to come up from the ground to pivot : )

Hello, my lovely Skatiebear, as always you've hit the nail on the head in the practice Dept 😂. I have been practicing using my hips and bum to pivot in socks and shoes before I moved on to my wheeled friends. I use 78a wheels outside but as you well know when I go indoors its different with my harder wheels which are 98a. Waaay less work in the rink 😊 but I do feel I build my muscle memory this way. Can't wait to see what you give us next. I also miss your long britches. I love how they fly around when you skate 😂 despite them trying to trip you up.

Hey hun! MYYYYYY Skatie Bear 🐻 (I call you that). I have a couple things here. 1) I can do a 3 turn on my non-dominant foot, but I roll in a single line and then pivot the foot around, in the same motion. Is this still a 3? 2) On my dominant foot, I cannot do a 3 turn for the life of me. I can hop on it and turn it that way, but on the hop, I jump and turn the foot counter clockwise. On the non-dominant foot, again, I do the 3 turn pivot. Lastly, how come I can do these things, like in the middle of the rink, but when I go out into the travel lanes again, I cannot do either. Or if I try, my free foot automatically goes down, in attempt to stop a nasty fall. Out of fear. Can you help me figure this mess out? 😂😂 By the way, you are so very pretty, if I have never told you that.

So... at 4:12 - what's the difference between that and a 3-turn? Just asking in case, by some miraculous development, I ever manage to get this far. Give it three or four years and a debilitating case of dysentry that causes me to lose three or four stone and it might just be within the realms of possibility. Right now, I'll always have a minimum of four wheels on the floor.

I have a video on 3 turns too. They tend to be done more on edges. The name 3 turn comes from the shape that’s made on the floor.

@@Skatie Based on what I'd seen in that video and similar (such as the one where you're testing wheel hardness), FARS descriptions, and various other sources, I'd concluded it was a one-foot transition. Skate UK (on ice, mind) implied it had to be done round a corner at least... Bit beyond my level, that.
