My best friend is a purple heart disabled Army Captain (Infantry). He told me that if an A10 driver walks into an Army bar they do not drink alone and they do not pay for anything for as long as they are there.

Our Air Force pilots are absolutely incredible! Having said that, I’m also going to praise the hell out of our enlisted Airmen that are A10 Maintainers. They work endless hours on the flight line doing maintenance on the Hog after every combat sortie in the hangars to keep the A10 flying. Without our Air Force enlisted A10 Maintainers our fighter pilots wouldn’t be able to provide close air support! It’s as simple as that!

As a former infantry Marine in Iraq in 03, I can say that we too LOVE this plane. It saved many of us and Marines on the ground do NOT want to see the AF get rid of this aircraft. NOTHING beats this aircraft. While the F-35 can get on station quicker, it is the ONLY advantage. The A-10 can carry more, linger longer, and has a reputation of scaring the enemy by just being heard in the sky. Respect and love to my brethren Army Infantrymen and the skilled Air Force pilots who fly this bird.

As an 11Bravo, PH recipient and platoon RTO, I can honestly tell you that these pilots are spot on, and true to the mission. I've personally coordinated fire with them in Iraq, and thank god they were there. Sometimes they would just do a fly-by and unload a few seconds of mini-gun burst "Show of Force" in an empty field and the enemy combatants would scatter like cockroaches when the lights come on. As an infantryman.. the A-10 (and the Apache/Kiawah helicoptors) are life saving hero weapons platforms. The moral boost that it gives us infantrymen on the ground also cannot be overstated. The guy in the video said it best, "That sound just drives 11Bravos nuts." Exactly.

To all the USAF Pilots out there, thank you. You took me to and from Iraq and Afghanistan and saved my butt during several fights in both countries. This is our generations Huey, and it similarly inspires strong feelings when i hear its brrrrtts.

32 years of Army service, countless tours of Iraq and Afghanistan till 2012, A10 drivers are the shit. Every soldiers loves the A10 and the pilots who fly them. Thank you all from the boots on the ground. When you low on ammo, and that A10 shows up.... hard to express.

The A-10 Warthog has been my favorite aircraft since I was a 10 year old kid! We live 120 miles from a training airbase and these guys would run training missions over the river 2 miles from us. The pilots would circle over the area and make multiple low level passes and I could hear them as they were passing over , they couldn't have been more than a few hundred feet over the trees. If I was outside I would wave at them in attempt to get a response. There was one particular day that I will never forget, two of the pilots were running back and forth over my parents field doing the low level passes and I was waving to beat the bandit. One of the pilots made a low level/ slow speed pass , made a swooping turn, came back across and tipped the wing down and I could see him clear as day, head turned looking right at me, he gave me one of those quick, cool, relaxed hand waves. I will never forget that! Left a huge impression on me. I don't know who he was or where he is now, but he is forever in my memory along with the sound of those planes. I have never been off the ground in a plane but if I could choose to take a ride in anything in the air, it would be an A-10 Warthog 1000%. Thank you to all the pilots out there who love these planes and want them to guard our ground forces for many more years. If I was impressed that much as a 10 yr old civilian kid, I can't imagine how much relief and comfort the A-10 pilots bring to our young soldiers on the ground in their time of need... Keep them in the air as long as possible, the planes and pilots both!

I'm an Australian digger, and by God, I wish every day we had the A-10 in support. Mortars, artillery, tanks and machine guns are all amazing in their own perfect environment, the A-10 provides surgical fire support perfectly in every environment. Huge support for you blokes from Down Under, wish we had ya.

I saw my first A-10 in September of 1987 in Myrtle Beach, SC. There once was a US Air Force Base there, and the A-10's would fly up and down the coast wagging their wings to us tourists. Base shut down in 1991, but my dream lived on. I remembered the whine of their engines and how you could see their pilots sitting upright in the cockpit as if their pride for being in command of such a machine should be known to everyone! I graduated high school in 1999, and the USAFA in 2003, and was lucky enough to not only be able to enter flight training, but after nearly three and a half years of ruthlessly selective flight training, I found myself in the cockpit of one of the last remaining active duty A-10 II squadrons in the world. That being the 25th Fighter Squadron based out of Osan Air Base. I can't even begin to tell you what it feels like to fly this aircraft. It's the most directly connected flight control system remaining outside of Piper Cubs. When you grab the stick, you can feel the cables controlling the flight control surfaces, or at least you think you can. Fighters, and attack aircraft are all like super cars, and flying the A-10 must be equivalent to driving a Porsche. It isn't the fastest super car, nor the most complex, but it's the one that the pilot most feels completely connected to the frame, and the one that you can still rely on to make a grocery run with on a rainy day. I have flown many air frames, and nothing has ever come close. The A-10 II was nowhere close to being the most modern, but every time your ass hit the seat you knew that plane would do whatever you asked it to do. Amazing experiences. I fly for a large freight company with purple and orange, mostly three engine equipment now, and miss the feeling of that unbelievably reliable, yet testy little bitch every single day.

My MOS was 0311. That air platform is unable to be replaced. I’ve seen The Taliban run without the A-10 even firing a single shot. Because they know what will happen if it does. My FOB was in the southeast of Afghanistan. Those pilots are nothing short of hero’s in my book. There are a lot of us who wouldn’t be here today to tell our story without that aircraft. I’m a Vietnam vet of the Big Red one. We had a very different experience in that combat was much closer. Not much distance between us and Charlie. Only the rice paddies were open like this. Same sounds though and at night our red tracers and their green tracers bouncing off trees. Our close air support was attack helicopters. They were wonderful pilots who flew treetop level with guns blazing. Man these A 10 planes and pilots are terrific and stunningly powerful. That buzzing sound is impressive.

Regroup, retool and rebuild the A-10 fleet. I owe a pilot my life.

When a soldier stops saying "A-10 saves the day again boys" is the day we don't need the A-10 anymore. All other opinions don't matter, that's the only opinion you need.

As a "boots on the ground" Marine in the 1966 & 1967 DMZ of Vietnam, I can vouch for the value of air support. I was a squad radio operator, My job was to transmit to pilots for strafing, bombing and med-evac support. Great air support is a godsend!!

Having been an Infantry Squad Leader in Afghanistan I can say that these pilots saved our tails more than a few times when we were ambushed and outnumbered. I even had a chance to meet a pilot that went by Dude 10 that gave us support during a Recon mission when we were ambushed and outnumbered.

Growing up an Air Force brat my Dad was a fuel systems instructor for the F4 F15, F16 I loved hanging out with the pilots and crew. You hero's are the single biggest thing in my life I am proud of. I always wanted to be one of you but because of being nearly deaf I never got the chance. I love you guys and salute you. I get goosebumps when I see a fighter jet.

The A10 is not a replaceable aircraft. Talk of retiring or replacing it should be criminal.

My step father helped design equipment to test and repair the GE 701 engines of this amazing aircraft. The A10 is the first line close support fixed wing as the AH64 is the first line close support rotary. I am grateful to all who have taken that oath and I share what I can from my experiences with my children and grandchildren to help build their support and love for this nation and all who serve it. While stationed in Alaska I was on range almost everyday watching the A-10 practice its thing. I've been less than a 100 feet from the A-10 while the gun is firing. Impressive.

Back in Colorado near the Airforce Academy.... I remember coming out of a building in middle school and having 3 A10s come out of nowhere and fly right over us ,and we never heard them coming. All I felt was this compression,and a feeling I can't describe,like silence,and something coming at you,so I turned and they were right there,right there. Took my breath away,I was so blown away by what I was seeing above me... They were doing an airshow nearby...single moment of both awe,and having it scare the bejezzus out of me. It wasn't until I was at a live fire exercise at night that I heard that nose gun the first times as they did runs south of us. You'll never forget the sound of those engines...that gun firing in the nose. I fell in love with this plane the first time I saw it,and the sound and seeing what that plane could do,just WOW! I don't think anything should be changed,that plane will always be the single most frightening amazing fighter plane ever. A flying tank of a plane with a metal raining gun...that sound is unlike anything you'll ever hear,really!

My Son is doing Basic Training at Fort Benning Georgia for the Infantry (Blue Cord) I am so thankful you A-10 pilot angels are there to provide support to our men and women.

Loved the bit about the pilots discovering the A-10! My discovery was when I was 10 or 11 in the late 80s and saw a wing of A-10s in the distance in Myrtle Beach. They peeled off 1 by 1 as I was listening to 'Armageddon It' by Def Leppard on my Sony Mega Bass walkman! Quite a bad ass memory! My hats off to these brave aviators!

Anytime i watch videos about the a10 and i hear the gun sounding like a giant zipper is opening the sky, i get a big smile on my face, and a happy warm feeling inside!!

My Father was an Engineer on the A-10 at McClellan AFB. Among other things he helped redesign the avionics compartment latch locks. Why would he do that you may ask? Because the old latches used to pop open when the gun was fired. Apparently, the pilots didn't care for that. I can't tell you how cool it was for me to be an infantry grunt and have the A-10's show up.

I think the main advantage the A-10 will always have against the F-35 is the time with weapons on target plus the time it takes between passes. The A-10's slower speed and high maneuverability means longer times on target and shorter time between passes. Battles are still won on the ground and CAS missions will always be an important if not deciding factor in ground battle victories.
