Unfortunately the experience in PoE is not the bliss people advertise. I understand why people that have been playing this for long like it, but it’s honestly a mess . People in D4 complain about not being able to respec fast enough, in PoE you “can’t”. Having to follow a build guide otherwise you get one shot in a tier 1 map it’s annoying . Double annoying that you can’t respec.

While you are in campaign you can ctrl-click when going to a new zone (Either through the waypoint or the entrance point) to generate a brand new instance of that zone. It's good for times like crucible bricking an zone or if you want to farm a zone for something (for example blood aqueduct for a tabi)

@HerpaDurpVg

Fr. Went thru stages of grief until I realized how to search for terms in the passive tree and then realizing that the Tree itself is easier to visualize when you consider that it’s really each characters tree all on the screen at once. So there’s a lot you don’t need or want on the tree in any playthrough.
@Raminotaur
@Raminotaur Жыл бұрын
My favorite part of that moment is (as a seasoned POE player) knowing this is just the surface level tree without any of the stuff that changes how the tree works yet. Which is just the most POE thing ever. The surface level of a mechanic is instantly overwhelming, but if you can get past that, there's soooooo much more depth to be had!

Oh man, as a guy that grew up playing d1, d2, lod and then getting really into PoE, i hope you give this game a fair shake. This is what d3 / d4 should have been instead of the BS it became. The only downside I think that the game has is there are so many ways to craft things and so many things to do that it can be overwhelming. However it is extremely satisfying when you get a build right. Good luck keep up the great content.
@Theos.
@Theos. Жыл бұрын
"only downside is theres too much cool shit to learn" thats not a downside man, thats content. the big C. but yeah it can be overwhelming at first. once you start learning a bit, then you know how much you dont know. once you learn a lot, you are officially a noob. once you become knowledgeable, there is a wiki to read to continue your path to galaxy brain, and poedb website to learn all the stats on all the items, and what each enemy monster does. and finally, when you have learned all there is to learn, a new league comes out and the balance changes and you have more systems to understand. poe is a cruel mistress, but you will never find it wanting.

Hes loving it, and was blown away after I told him hes experienced less than 10% of the game so far. I loaded up a bunch of old characters (those that havent been broken by updates and need a skilltree respec, at least) to show a variety of builds, that are only a tiny fraction of playstyles available.

Don't go by the name of the item. You can use almost any item in the game. The only restriction is stats. Level, Str, Dex, and Int. These will show up as red when you hover over the item. Also don't waste too much time picking up blues and white items. Progression of items is White=Normal, Blue=Magic, Yellow=Rare, Orange=Unique. Generally don't use scrolls of wisdom on blues. Use on yellows and oranges. Buy a currency stash tab and use it to store all your currency. Generally you also have caster items, melee items, and bow items. If you are using a spell stick to caster items ect. I cant recommend enough to get a loot filter. It will block all the trash and will highlight useful items.
@ferinzz
@ferinzz Жыл бұрын
shouldn't worry about stash tabs until into maps. Especially for the currency tab. However yes, once you get there it's a big deal. Only other thing about items is that items that are linked with three different colors can be sold for something more valuable than usual. Same for an item with 7 sockets.

I've never clicked on a video faster. Hype that you're giving POE a go, before POE2 comes out. It should give you a way better idea of what you're getting into, when it drops. Unfortunately, POE is pretty tough and I do recommend following a build guide, since most of them explain basic mechanics, and the build, at the same time. Quick note: Make sure you get a decent bit of % Life on the tree, and aim for 75% fire, cold, and lightning resistance (check via "C" > Defense), during your play-through. It will make the game feel infinitely better and save you a lot of hassle. To answer your questions while I'm watching: -Game is 10 years old; POE2 should come out next year. That game is massively overhauled, but I'm sure you've seen those trailers. POE1 plays way different than POE2. -Yep! Support gems are modifiers to skill gems. You can change attributes/damage types of skills and redo how they work, completely. Like, changing Fire to Chaos damage, then making it deal damage over time (instead of a burst of damage). -If you have a nice PC, make sure Global Illumination is on and turned up, with DX12 or Vulkan. It definitely makes the game look even better. Honestly, the newer maps have the same quality of graphics as D4. -The skill tree is the same for all classes, therefore, any class can get any passive skill for anything (other than ascendancies). Like, a warrior can become a full mage and you can use any item on any character. Make sure you get a decent bit of % Life and aim for 75% fire, cold, and lightning resistance, during your play-through (assuming you're going life, not ES/hybrid/ward/etc., which you'll learn about later). -Carvings and books that you find in the acts/maps, are ways that POE tells lore. You can skip them entirely, like all dialogue, it's totally optional. But they let you click them and listen to them while you walk through zones.

@@hawg_tv I mean stash is shared between characters (as long as they're in the same league) so at this point not massively hard to create a new character and run to that point again to pick one up (also lets you try one of the other characters, though at the moment the only real difference is in what skills it lets you buy and what minor boosts you can spend your 3 passive points on) and then use the flask on whichever character you want to carry on with? It'd only really be a problem if you were trying to get a new character through the campaign as fast as possible in a new league, which most people are wanting to do once they've played a lot so those patterns are engraved on the brain now and it stands out when someone doesn't do them. Also I wouldn't say you absolutely must have a quicksilver, but they are both really good and feel really nice if you remember to use them.

Adding a few little tips in the skill tree. You can use the search button on the top of the passive tree so you can check what you want to prioritize. You can type Fire and the tree will highlight it. May it be fire damage, fire resistance, fire damage overtime multiplier and so on but you can be more specific like "fire damage". If you can see the highlighted nodes, you can now plan how to get there to enhance your character. ALSO if you're always out of scroll of wisdom, you can sell Blacksmith Whetstone or Armourer Scrap for multiple scrolls of wisdom. They are not too useful early on since they add damage/armour by a percentage which is not really good on low numbers from low level items. Much better to identify rares than use it to add 1% damage/armour

I had many of the same reactions you did when I first played, like that realization you can build and modify your own skills by linking skill and support gems :) Looking forward to seeing more of these videos, Lot's of the beginner tips I would have made were already commented by other people (most notably ctrl+left-click to quick vendor/stashinventory) but another fun thing to note about those lore carvings, as you may have briefly noticed, is instead of clicking "continue," which ends the narration, you can just walk away and it'll keep narrating the lore in the background while you're playing (you can click "x" on bottom to stop it).

Loved this man! Earned a new sub. Looking forward to more. Coming from a 10 yr PoE vet let me say you did great. That first crucible (current league mechanic) was easy to accidentally overcharge but you still handled it well. Also I can tell you've got arpg skills. Good movement, positioning and flasking etc. Keep at it and don't get overwhelmed. Game is complex but fun as hell.

The Carving is just lore, any books you see on the map are just flavour and won't impact gameplay. I hope I get to catch you live sometime, it's always fun seeing new players try PoE and you were picking it up crazy quickly. I also love how you highlighted PoE's versatility by using spells with a claw and then a bow as soon as you started playing, haha.

Theres an insane amount to learn and the more you learn the more you appreciate. Youre going about it the right way, theyve done alot in the tutorial menus and tooltips to try make the game easier to understand piece by piece. Reading over everything is the way to slowly piece together all the base mechanics that become more complicated later. Also despite not having a large array of gaming experience, you come from a really solid position of what is an isnt acceptable or what did or didnt have alot of work put into it, really refreshing in this space where everyone is scared to be blacklisted from the next blizzard pre-release

This video filled my heart with such joy xD what makes this game so good is once you get some skill gems you like and some good support for them you can just shred everything in sight. after ,my first 2-3 hours with the game i was a wrecking ball from then on. i use no build guides. just look over the skill tree in your general area and use the first bit for health and mana but i would say save some till you really decide what you want your main skill gems or play style to be. if you already know then you can generally just chose the passives that best suite what you wanna eventually do really well.

The thing I will say is that there are about another 10 zones in this act that you're going to need to progress through, and then there are 10 acts in total for the main campaign. Some are shorter some are longer, the first few acts are probably going to be the longest as you'll be able to pick up the pace once you're more familiar with things. Act 2 and 3 are a little confusing on where you need to go at times, when open up the wave point interface you can select a quest (the ones on the left side are the uncompleted ones) and it will highlight a zone you need to go to to help progress that quest. Believe it or not the entire campaign can be done in less than 6-8 hours once you get much more familiar with it (and racers do it even faster), some people say the re-playability due to the acts and having to play through it for each character is a downside but I enjoy it even after years of doing this questline that has been in the game for the last 22 leagues since this current storyline was implemented in 3.0

Love seeing you give this a try. Many may have mentioned, but you really do need to follow a build guide on your first try to make sure you don't hose yourself in the skill tree. If you mess that up you can find yourself screwed because the item needed (orb of regret) to unselect passive skills don't drop like walnuts in fall. Enjoy Hawg!

Just a tip: If you are about to enter an area, you can do shift+lmb or alt+lmb (i cant remember) and open the instance manager where you can create new area instances or join ones you've already created. An instance expires in 10 minutes when everybody leaves it. So for example, when you overcharged that crucible, you could've went back into town and created a new instance for the beach area and avoided the monsters altogether.

Long time poe player here and it's the first time I watched you. The honest excitement about the depth of PoE was really enjoyable to watch. You have plenty to learn in poe, but I still had fun watching you! Stick to poe and you won't be dissapointed - the amount of work they put in each league is just awesome. Maybe try a build guide to get used to everything - it will be overwhelming at some point. Good vid!

I've played PoE for about 10 or so years off and on, and I love watching peoples first interactions with the game. The game may seem overwhelming at first, but if you take your time and learn it piece by piece, it becomes a very rewarding and customizable experience. A very important thing in PoE is wording used in skills. For example, when you see "on hit", like that chance to poison support gem, it means literally on enemy contact with your weapon. 9 times out of 10 this is going to be a weapon based ability, so ALMOST all spells (freezing pulse for example) will not trigger on "hit" effects. In order for chance to poison to poison, you would have to make an "attack" skill opposed to a "spell" skill. So, if you went duelist for example, and hit your enemy with your sword, this would work with the chance to poison support gem. Also, the rock you interacted with that was showing as a book on your mini map, is just a lore tid bit. They can be skipped or enjoyed with no downside. I rarely comment on youtube, but I just wanted to clear up a potential pain point with how PoE labels and identifies certain interactions through the use of specific words on skill gems. I hope you keep up with it! I will for sure be here watching it!

Game can be very overwhelming but you need to keep in mind that pretty much everything is optional here. You dont need to learn what betrayal is on your first playthrough, you don't need to figure out incursion, heist or delve etc you can focus on basics, just complete campaing, start doing maps and slowly learn what is interesting to you, what you find fun.

That carving on the beach, like many such things throughout the game, is optional lore that is great to look at. PoE's story is really rich and full of both story for your character and lore as to why things are the way they are. Dead civilizations built on the bones of others, mistakes repeated by those seeking Corruption. All optional lore. If you have time, I recommend KittenCatNoodle's videos on it, I tend to binge it when im going through maps or long work days.

Control or shift click will auto transfer items from inv to tab. Further you delve into POE the better it gets. Links are your friend. More link with support the better. Also Int on items tends to get blue sockets, dex green, strength red. Any item can get any color just harder.

"It's gonna take me 10 damn years to figure this game out" - 14:53 Yes ;) And that's what's beautiful about it. League after league you get better and better; You understand more and more. You figure new ways and tricks about things. You try new classes and archetypes each league which helps you to understand what makes an item good and how to price them for sale. It's so robust you got content for years and years and every 3-4 months they add new content which even more extends the replayability. Once you get good enough to start making your own builds it gets even better. Got 8k hours played and I'm still learning new things. Best game ever.

Ok, well I don't see anyone mentioning this, but wisdom scrolls are like gold. You might think that vendoring your armor for a scroll fragment is not worth selling your item for, but it's exactly what you should be selling your item for. I generally don't pick up white items unless they are a Green-Red-Blue linked item, 6 socket, or 6 link. Since it's your first time every playing have lots of fun. Pick up everything if you want, vendor everything you want. Most of your currency will come from vendoring items. Even sitting on 300 scrolls of wisdom is not enough for my liking. Oh and you can sell Town Portal scrolls for Wisdom scrolls. Once you get 4-5 Orbs of Transmutation then start Identifying Rares. One other very big thing is ID all your boot until you find some movement speed boots, the you can pick and choose what to ID. Save flask and vendor them in packs of 3 of the same kind 👍

14:00 I'd love to see your reaction to Last Epoch's skill tree setup after this moment. It's not the massive grid on PoE, but the fact every skill in the game has it's own tree, and each class has a passive tree, and each sub class has a passive tree. It really shows how those devs have looked at PoE and said "We have to compete with that." So they took the 'lets break this down into easier to digest chunks.' approach.

Heeeey he actually tried POE, neat haha. Good to see more new people try the game for the first time. I recommend following build guide for beginners, then once you're used to the passive tree system, branch out and make your own build, in path of building. You'll realise the passive tree is actually quite straightforward, once you start viewing it in segments, each part of the tree is for different styles of play and characters, think of it like each class sharing their passive trees with each other. If you you don't follow even a basic template, you will inevitably brick your first character, but if that's ok with you and you want to learn that way, more power to ya. I know bricked a couple of characters the first time I played and then quit, I decided to return and look up a guide and never looked back since. POE is one of those games that really rewards your time and effort spent learning its mechanics and all the nitty gritty details, even things like learning gem keywords are important.
