They are very territorial and each one represents a threat to the other's young. Usually, they try to avoid each other or use threat displays. But they will fight (to the death) if necessary. A red-tailed hawk is larger and more powerful than a peregrine falcon, so on the ground it would most likely overpower the falcon. But a hawk is no match for a falcon in the air. While flying, a peregrine falcon can pretty much dominate (and potentially kill) any other kind of bird, including eagles.

Its so weird how they named these birds, Sparrow hawk looks so similar to falcon, its looks like as its a baby falcon, hawk looks alot more different than falcon and sparrow hawk, but still the sparrow hawk is named after hawk and not falcon, it should be named sparrow falcon instead .
@brycearonee66353 жыл бұрын
In North America, a Sparrow Hawk IS a falcon (not a true hawk). It is the informal name of the American Kestrel, which is a type of falcon (genus falco). However, there is another species of hawk called the Eurasian Sparrowhawk, which is not a falcon, but a true hawk (genus accipiter). Until the sixth edition of the AOU Checklist of North American Birds was published by the American Ornithologists' Union in 1983, the most commonly used name for the American kestrel was the sparrow hawk. This was due to a mistaken connection with the Eurasian sparrowhawk in the genus Accipiter. The sixth edition of the AOU Checklist corrected this, officially renaming the bird American kestrel. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparrowhawk en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_kestrel en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_sparrowhawk

@@hiknightyy Haha, nope. Not a Harvard grad or biologist here. Just someone who's been into ornithology for a while. There are some very obvious ways to tell falcons from hawks (whether flying or close up). Falcons have dark brown eyes, while hawks have light colored eyes. Falcons have a notch on their beak that hawks don't have. The wings of a falcon are pointier and narrower for faster flight, while hawks have broader wings for soaring and they spread their "fingers" when they fly. Color is also usually a give away, although depending on the specific species this isn't always reliable. When it comes to the "kestrels" (small hovering falcons) their smaller size distinguishes them from most hawks as well. The only time this gets confusing is when trying to compare juveniles. They naming system can also get a bit confusing (especially back when they called American Kestrels "sparrow hawks"). This erroneously led people to believe they were hawks instead of falcons.

Hawks are usually larger, catch prey with their talons rather than their beaks, and they also look different.
@falconrymorocco90719 жыл бұрын
Hawks have yellow eyes (iris), short wings, can hunt in woodlands between trees, have strength in their feet and kill prey with pressure. They are used for pursuit hawking and are usually more suitable to hunt mammals, from squirrels to hares and jack rabbits. Falcons have dark eyes (black or brown iris), long wings, hunt in open spaces, prairies, steppes and deserts. They catch prey with their hands but kill by breaking the prey's cervical with their beak that possess some sort of razor sharp tooth. They preferably hunt birds, especially the peregrine falcon. Other falcon species hunt mammals, mainly rodents and some insects for the smallest falcon species... Falco is a Latin term meaning scythe because of the shape of the falcon's wings are similar to the shape of a scythe : pointed and sharp. Hawks wings are more broad and seem more like the fingers of an open hand... Just check the systematic of species and you will learn more.

@@Lllll6844 Technically they are. And on the ground, a red-tail could overpower the falcon with it's larger size. However, in the air a falcon can kill a red-tail (and any other bird as well) due to their superior speed, maneuverability, and diving attacks. Also, the falcon has a toothed bill that it can use for severing the spine of other animals. If he got at the neck of the red-tail, then it wouldn't have a chance. So it really depends on where the battle is happening. In this situation (on the ground) the hawk has the advantage.

However if a Hawk took a Falcon by surprise and the Falcon couldnt fight it off to get away, then maybe a Hawk would win. Maybe, Falcons have such sharp beaks, Hawks rely more on their feet and a Falcon isn't small enough to be held down easily by a Hawk to just tear into meanwhile that Falcons beak is ripping into the Hawk with each clash. Hawks talons ripping into the Falcon each clash, idk, In any case that Hawk would have a serious fight on it's hands.

I've not seen one wild bird caught with your falcon. It's always domesticated pigeons. Your only proving your hawk is not fit and you are cruel. I've nothing against real hunting situations where hunter and hunted are equal from the start but to purposely release a domesticated bird to be slaughtered for fun is not right and only proves your not a hunter just like the so called anglers who pull out massive fat rainbow trout that have been farm fed and could be caught by a child with a stick. Your only kidding yourself on. Put up a video of a wild kill then you and your bird might get some respect. Do the descent thing and leave the domestic animals alone.
