That was not an aerial attack. The hawk clearly perched on the top branch. Considering the snatching was also directly vertical. If it was an aerial attack it would have swooped in sideways.

Some bird chicks nestle down and stop asking for food as soon as the parents are not around. That instinctive stealth mode probably saves them from being eaten by predators. Unfortunately it seems most bird chicks don't have that protective instinct
