The reason you don't see much Ti in OTFs outside of inlays and the reason that the Hawks changes to 7071 aluminum for the model C is because of galling from the blade riding in and out repeatedly on the track. Gavin did an interview with Levon at blade show about the model C and explained how complicated it was to carbidize the Ti to make it work.

I still think it's silly that automatic knives are illegal in so many places. With modern detents and flipper/thumbstud deployment, it seems like autos/otfs don't deploy faster than manuals. I'm not an expert, but it seems like they just aren't more dangerous than any other knife.

I saw an interview where one of the Hawkes mentioned why they switched from Titanium to Aluminum for the model C--apparently titanium's physical properties make it a huge pain in the butt to make OTFs out of--as in, it's hard to machine just right. I think the word they used was "sticky"

Same design as the Desert kifeworks Sandshark OTF. Pirahna OTF is the same but Deadlock is much more refined and precise. Great design!

If anyone has a model B, or even more so a model A, they better hold on to them! As time goes on these are going to be quite hard to come by for a “reasonable” price, compared to their original MSRP. There will never be any more of these made as the Deadlock is an iterative knife that has evolved as it’s gone along; the model C is quite a different knife in construction design, and it’s only made in 7075 aluminum as a part of that (that was a major point in the redesign from model B), and their production has moved to it. But I’m sure there will be some pretty awesome inlay options down the road, and they have also eluded to some unique one-offs possibly in the future as well… I went very deep in my internet scrounging and research prior to and following my Model B purchase earlier this year and I look forward to a model C purchase at some point as well. 👌 The Hawks really are cool knife makers and what they have achieved with the Deadlock is awesome. As far as taking the Deadlock apart I’ve done it twice with mine partly for fun and partly for cleaning, and it’s not as scary as it might seem! The fact that Gavin encourages customers to do this if they so choose is great as well. No mysterious warranty policies to be concerned about; within reason lol

I have a Benchmade Infidel and Mini Infidel, they both have blade play, and ball's on the base of the blade. 😂😂😂👍 One day I will get me a Deadlock! They are sweet knives.

It was a long time ago, but I had a switchblade pop out in my pocket accidentally. Not a fun day. No stitches, but ruined my pants and I did need bandaids. Plus I just think they look a bit off, with a disproportionately large handle. The auto equip requires it.

I just got my first OTF 2 days ago, Ultratech s/e, and son of a bitch, my thumb is absolutely trashed. It's getting easier, but hearing you bring up how they're a pain in the ass to fire in general makes me a feel a whole lot better lol. But watching the action on that Deadlock...woooo...crazy. That Guardian Tactical may be something I'll snatch up too since you mention the bearings in the switch. Need to look more into that. Looked like it had a ton of blade play though.

Aluminum is both lighter weight and smoother compared to titanium. Titanium is a more porous material which makes it significantly more "sticky" causing much more drag on the blade. Having aluminum creates a smoother better action .

Inertia. I would imagine the deployment feels less strong because the handle is so heavy even though blade size similar to others. Imagine extremes: 0.1 ounce handle vs 10 pound handle. Would be "strongest" or "weakest" deployment ever.

It is a beautiful OTF!! If I were to get one I don’t think I could cut open a letter without guilt. Unusable but an awesome collector toy.

My HALO VI is pretty damn solid. Not Deadlock solid, but ALOT better than my Infidel lol!

Neither of my Infidels have blade play. And I can say that with confidence because one of them I haven’t checked and the other one is a fixed blade. 😂
