Jason and Tony were unable to connect last week for a show, but this was recorded just before Tony's injury. Like, describe and "return what you have stolen from me...!"

This 100. I grew up idolizing Tony and it provided so much context for the man behind the myth. Basically cried skater tears at how rad the whole thing was. As soon as Rodney started talking about Tony and their friendship I lost it. 🤙

Hey Tony, thanks for mentioning Sin Egelja and John Fox. The two of them had a huge influence on my skateboarding career as a kid and eventual pro. I first saw Sin skate during a contest at my local skatepark here in Five Dock in 1980. I became an instant fan, and within a year he started to mentor me at North Ryde Skatepark. Sin also surprised me with a home visit when I was 13 to take me to get my first sponsorship with OZI Skates. For the 6 months prior to his passing, Sin and I were working on a new shoe company. I miss the big dork every day. Fox was instrumental in getting the Coca-Cola Skate Team together in late 86, and gave me my first job doing demos on that team, the Big Day Out tours between 1992 and 2012, and many other side gigs. Speaking of the BDO, the year you brought up during the podcast was 1997, not 95. An old Sydney pro named David Clancy filmed the Sydney show and perhaps Brisbane. He only ever gave me footage of myself, which is on my KZfaq channel. If you get in touch with him, he may still have footage of everyone else. Apart from Rick Thorne, Mike Frazier was also on that tour. Maybe Dennis McCoy too. I have an old Hawk model that all of you signed.

Man, it's so fucking great when Ellis makes Tony genuinely crack up. Love this damn podcase and it just keeps getting better. Looking forward to you guys talking more about Tony's journey to a full recovery. The injury happened at a weirdly coincidental time, for sure. But the other side of that is people now really understand how many times you've been injured and what it takes to come back (at any age, let alone past 50). Warrior. Inspiration.

Mcsqueeb! I think that’s what people eventually called that hard style. I’m in my mid 40s and was a hard core skate grom in the mid and late 80s and definitely had that hair cut, much to my parents chagrin. Im rocking that style for 8th grade year book photo, even had the bangs dyed blond (I have almost black hair). I’ll my sake friends had some variation of that cut at the time.

I got one of the worst copies of the McSqueeb ever. I was like 11 and I went to a local barber who was probably in his 70’s. I asked for “the Tony Hawk”. He had no idea so I tried to explain. I didn’t know both sides of the head were shaved though. I came home with one side of my head shaved. I actually thought it looked cool until I got home and my mom pointed out how horrible it was…then I cried 😂

The Devil Lock came out way before Flock of Seguil's. The Misfits formed in 1977 and the devil lock came shortly after. The devil lock wasn't a hip idea following mainstream culture. It was was totally out of left field based on early rock and roll/ Rockabilly icons. Flock of Seguil's hair was just a extention of mainstream new wave styles.
