Robert Calvert was/is a warrior poet, revolutionary, visionary genius. His lyrics are more relevant than ever. His warnings of an impending 'corporate dystopia'. He could see in the 70's what was coming, unless people woke up and started rediscovering their true, natural, indigenous selves. He could see how people in them mainstream were being manipulated by the 'ruling classes' and how people were heading into a trap of becoming 'mindless consumers' His lyrics did a huge amount to strengthen the 'counter culture' that Hawkwind were carrying along with them......and those lyrics and music are as powerful and important today as they ever were as we face the same issues.

Yep, "Opa Loka" was basically a rerecording of "Hallogallo" - I was shocked the first time I heard "Neu!"

True. I met Dave Brock way back in 1981 and even then he was urging me to listen to Neu!

Mathew Wright is an expert on Gong & Hawkwind .Not sure if you've ever seen it but when the great Daevid Allen departed this mortal coil & went back to the Plabet Gong..Mathew dedicated his morning show to him.stunning! He had Hawkwind on his morning ' celebrity panel' once ,very surreal morning tv for old hippues ;)

Well said. Creating something liike Hawkwind (or Floyd for that matter) is a contract between the band and fans. Throwing a hissy because you're an arsehole shouldn't be allowed. We have all been deprived of the potential of Hawkwind by Dave Brock's protectionism. Who gives a shit whether there's love in space? The makers of the music need to take it seriously. I loved Hawkwind. I still listen to Space Ritual frequently. An alien soundscape. Quark was brilliant too. So was 25 years, and PXR 5. And Astounding Sounds, Warrior, Hall, In Search of Space, Doremi. All absolute classics... Put up with the dificulties of working with people, and create interesting music Mr Brock.

after 4 years going to Stonehenge ,being at Reading Festival in 1983 was hell on Earth for me at least. being crammed amongst hundreds of clans of hostile blokes in denim uniforms pissing into & throwing or burning plastic cider bottles whilst lager was the only freely available high. never went back to that urban human cattle market . But following year was surrounded by space & fantastic folk of all ages & styles plus saw Nik Turners’ iCU , the Enid , Roy Harper & Buster Bloodvessel fast asleep in an old fashioned deck chair - all at stonehenge in the sun whilst off my face on everything & still had change from a tenner 😁👍

Dave Brock IS Hawkwind! And Turner came the cunt when he hijacked the Hawkwind name to tour America, and cost Brock a fortune in court costs to protect the name and stop Turner from stealing it.

Turner hasn't been in the band since 1984, and in total put in about 7 years. Even then, his song output was pretty minimal, and after Doremi not particularly interesting. Calvert's input and output were obviously greater, but he's been dead 32 years, and the band has carried on putting out new material, much of which has been excellent. Why should Turner and Ollis be allowed to use the name of a band they have not been in for the last 35 years (49 in Ollis's case)?

He was the core of the band but ended up destroying it. They've been regurgitating shit since 1982, and the litigation against Nik Turner was just shocking. It makes my blood boil. Brock has a great voice and writes some good tunes, but the best Hawkwind music was created by others feeding off him. Lemmy, Nik, Bob Calvert, Huw etc...Turning Hawkwind into the Dave Brock Travelling Carnival has deprived us of...who knows what? Imagine the creativity of 1969-1979 distributed over the subsequent 30 years. Fucking gnarly tattooed fascist twat. There'll be a place in hell for him. I saw Nik's band supporting Gong abot 10 years ago. I didn't know they were the support act until they got on stage. I thought I was hallucinating. Magical. On the other hand, Hawkwind doing their Warrior on the Edge of Time was like watching a bored tribute band. In comfy slippers. Quite liked Tim Blake tho...
