This is the new vinyl edition of Steven Wilson’s mix of this classic Hawkwind.
Recorded in 1975, the album is arguably one of the finest rock albums of the mid-1970s. This Atomhenge edition marks the first time Steven Wilson’s stunning stereo mix has appeared on vinyl.
It was cut at Abbey Road and faithfully reproduces the fold out shield sleeve artwork and picture inner bag of original 1975 LP release.
I have to say the cut does seem to be an error and most unusual. It play fine on my Technics deck but I know of some decks the last track on side two will not play all the way through.

Truly one of my favorite Hawkwind albums. Space Ritual is my FAVORITE Hawkwind album.

I shockingly found an original US Hall of the Mountain Grill at a local place a few months ago. I never really listened to Hawkwind but I knew Lemmy was in it and I love Motorhead to death. It was cheap and I couldn't pass it up but I didn't really expect to enjoy it but I really did. Afterwards at some point I got the Cherry Red reissue of this album on CD and it's almost become an obsession of mine. Such a masterpiece.

I was in the thick of things back in 80’s & 90’s. Great festival’s & awesome gigs!! Hawkwind, my favourite band mainly because they didn’t sell out to the big labels etc.

I'm not a big Hawkwind fan but this is a cracking album. I bought the CD box set for playing. However, if you have an automatic "stacker" deck (radiogram if you still have one), just leave the pressure arm "open" and the auto will not operate.

I had a friend who died a couple of years ago, we used to laugh at him because he was into Hawkwind, bought everything he could find by the band, I hated them back in the 70s when we used to run around together. I moved across the country in the mid 80s and stayed there 30 years, around 2005 or so I was listening to that Slacker radio at work one day, it used to work like Pandora except the selection of music was endless, you couldn't stump them, they had every song I could even think of, one day I decided to give Hawkwind another try after hearing the song ' Hurry On Sundown', & I see what he saw now~! I really like most anything I've ever heard by them now. It's the same with a lot of other bands since I got old also~!

Hello Phil. Good advice about the automatic turntables. Also, I came across a rather rare breed of vinyl collectors. They don't buy just any vinyl format. They are collectors of old and obscure formats. It seems there were 2 inch, 5 inch and even 19 inch vinyl records pre- 1960. There are others like Trimicron, flexi discs,green vinyl etc. And the original laser etched True Colors album by Split Enz from 1979 is much sought after in Australasia. If any of you music connoisseurs come across such discs in your grandparents ' attics or storerooms, PLEASE don't throw them away. You are sitting on a treasure trove !!

Had I not have recently dropped a good amount of dosh on a first pressing I'd be running to get this edition as I thought Steven Wilson's redo was smashing, this is my favourite album of all time. Hawks Forever 🤙✌☮☯🌱🍄🌌🌠

Love the remix in the box and at this price I'll be sticking with my original vinyl, it seems as though they didn't think this through, a real cock-up, for £50+ they could surely have made it a double with some bonuses or make them 45 RPM! Anyway I'm fine as I am and won't bother even though I have a manual TT!😉

Personally I dont like changing the record every 10 mins so I'm glad this wasn't split over two 45 rpm discs. I'm rather glad that my record player is fully manual though.

I do remember the old and original "shield" sleeve, I am sure one of my old friends still has the original. I do have the CD remaster box set from 2013 (?) with the Steven Wilson remix on it and, yes, it is and always will be one of Hawkwind's finest albums. Even though I don't have a turntable (yet!) I am tempted to pick up a copy of the vinyl just for "posterity".

I was looking forward to this release until I saw the price. Think I'll stick with the deluxe CD set that came out a few years ago and drop some hints for xmas. I guess if they ever fully replicate In Search of Space with the booklet it will be a similar price.

Hi Phil, I'll stick to my original which plays very well. I find with some of the new recordings that they sound too clinical and dull sometimes. The price puts me off as well because up to £50 for one album is a rip off. I know they have to be more expensive than they used to be but that kind of price is just way too much. Another mistake about this album which i dont think anyone has noticed, is that on the inner sleeve the tracks are 1 to another number for each side but in the notes its mentions Brock plays on 1, 2 and say 10. A left over from the CD.

Also beware there is some controversy surrounding Abbey Road Studios. There is a suggestion that there is a digital element to their processes and, i for one, am sure that Free's Fire and Water album is digital. So for those purists that are looking for 100% analogue please take note.

Hi Phil. They should have made it a double album instead. The way they made this is really stupid. Not all turntables have on/off switches for the automatic, and besides that; Have they heard of inner groove distortion??? On a double album they could have made wider grooves which sounds better, and avoided this mistake. I think it's pretty obvious that they haven't thought of either customers, the tech side of things, or sound quality. Stay cool Mate.

Its only 44 minutes long, far too short for a double. I have not noticed any problems with IGD particularly. This remix sounds very open and detailed, possible a bit lighter in the bass compared to the first press and early re-press versions. I think its a worthwhile version which I am enjoying. Admittedly at £42 its a bit pricey - probably the sleeve is responsible for a fair bit of that.

You can buy it for £41 but it should be sold for around £30 taking into account the fancy sleeve work! Taking advantage of the market here. They obviously assumed few people use auto lift turntables today. Technics 100/1500C is one of the few modern ones of any quality. Who cut it?

I have the box too .. the vinyl is the original mix .. it is also a direct flat transfer from the original analog tapes.. it’s all analog.. and it sound bloody fantastic…

Think I'll pick up an original instead. I dont have an automatic turntable but I'm not gonna support this kind of shoddy quality regardless. Like another comment mentioned, inner groove distortion will likely be a problem. A damn shame, as I like Steven's remixes.

Sorry but it doesn't come close to "In Search Of Space", "Do Rae Me Fa Sa Lo La Ti Do", Then Either the 1st album or Space Ritual. Love all the Hawks & their Friends & Relations!~ Yes the camera does lie & refuses to die, but don't worry because 'Uncle Sam's On Mars"!~!~
