Don't forget about when choosing a tractor to think about the front axle on that machine and what you will be handling... sometimes it might be better to spend extra $$ on the next series or frame size so the front end can handle more. For example, it's one reason I chose the smallest 7600 massey vs the largest 6600 series, the beefiness of the frame to handle everything.

We feed our grass fed beef small squares. Less waste, stored under cover for better feed value over a long time. Easier handling and the feed can be moved to different areas depending on ground conditions.

This could be a thing of different areas use different stuff but around where i live the majority of the balers are 6x5 hardcore or softcore round balers. So i was surprised to hear that they mostly sell 5x4 the only people i know that have 5x4 anymore are for silage bales as the bigger bales tend to be to heavy for silage.
@MessicksEquip

around here, you see a lot of bales being trucked into compost facilities so we can't haul the larger bales without permits. Lots of regional differences.

Have a old B2400 that handles round bales like they aren't even there. Average of 1000 - 1200 lbs each. I counter balance with my backhoe if it is on or pick up a weight plate that comes in around 600 lbs on my 3 point. Double stack is my limit because of lift height.

I was carting bales with my cousin a month ago and I had 2 silage bales on the back of a MF3080 and it was wheeling across the field as the bales were close to a metric tonne each and his MF390 had a loader what can lift 2 metric tonne had two bales on the front and 1 on the back. The MF 3080 only weighs 3-4 tonne and the MF 390 is about 2 tonne maybe, you don't need a big tractor for shifting couple hundred bales. We had 230 some grass silage and 130 barley oat and grass arable silage bales.

In my area many of the hay farmers went to large bales to cut down on theft...people were literally driving out into farmer's fields in the middle of the night and picking up those small 2 string bales and loading their trucks and/or trailers and driving away. So now the farmers not only had theft of their income, they now had to fork out the money to buy equipment to bale in larger bales to keep people from literally walking off with them....although someone could go out and steal the large round or square bales if they had the equipment, but hasn't really been an issue.

Hi Neil. Are there any balers that work with the kubota compacts tractors - specifically the B Series? I just purchased 7 acres of mostly landscaped and pastured land, but I have 2.5 acres of timothy grass I would like to cut and bale. I have looked online but am struggling to find something that works with 19.5 (B2650) or 27 (B3350) horsepower at the PTO. Is my only option a mini-round baler or is there a small square baler that can work with that PTO horsepower? Is PTO "horsepower" is the measurement I should be looking at?
@MessicksEquip
@MessicksEquip 4 жыл бұрын
not new, but if you look back to older small squares you can find some that you can get by with. New Holland 272/273 etc.

Is it possible to use a B series Kubota if the bale spear is on the three point attachment in the rear or is ballast weight still the worry?
@MessicksEquip
@MessicksEquip 2 жыл бұрын
You'll want a front loader to get as much weight out front as possible. You'll move a lot more bale on the rear for sure.

Women are high percentage square bale buyers for horses and a smaller small square is better for their back. I try to keep it under #60 and 6' tall bales stacked on a semi trailer are too tall for many overpasses. The 4 x 5 is the best size and net wrap is much better than string when selling hay. I've seen string bales damaged by the wind on a long haul. I would never buy 5' wide bales due to hauling issues. OK if you are baling and feeding on the same ranch.

I’m in a Workmaster 75 making a 4’x4’ bale (JD 335 baler) currently. If I can make this year a success in the hay business, I’m hoping to upgrade to New Hollands RB450 that makes a 4x5. There’s an okay market around here for the 4x4 but most of my customers prefer the 4x5.

I'd get something bigger unless you like picking bales up in the field. I've made small bales with older 35 hp tractors in a pinch but you get shook up good with the back and forth of the baler.
