CLICK SHOW MORE INFO FOR FAQS, INCLUDING A LINK TO THE FIRST SONG
It turns out that crunching on an animated movie is a lot like crunching on a video game. The staff starts making dinner in rotation and one night, it's the director's turn...
FAQs:
* Where is this from? How can I see the whole thing?
This is from "The Making of Spirited Away - Nippon Television Special", which is an extra on the DVD version of Spirited Away. If you buy the Blu-ray version, make sure to get the Blu-ray/DVD combo, because the Blu-ray disc does NOT have this on it.
* Are they eating plain spaghetti noodles?
No. Eating spaghetti with a heavy red sauce is only common in England and America. Elsewhere, spaghetti is typically dressed with light sauces or olive oil and herbs. You can actually see the cook putting a bottle of olive oil down next to the plate of spaghetti and someone grating parmesan onto theirs. That's what they are eating.
* What is the song at the beginning?
The song at the beginning of the video is "It's Hard Work", by Joe Hisaishi, from the Spirited Away soundtrack. This version has backing vocals and was released on the "Spirited Away Image" album in Japan in 2000. Fortunately, you can now listen to this version on Spotify!

Why'd you make an assumption like this? Ever been to Tokyo? Talk to its working citizens when you go, you need to check things out before you jump to conclusions. FYI even inexpensive ramen and sushi in the train stations taste as good (often better) than the typical $10-18 sushi offering stateside. And a cup of coffee too.

This video makes me little bit emotional im at a point where im searching for jobs & so disappointed in myself when i see my other friends getting jobs already & getting busy while im sitting here doing nothing . Workplaces like this really feels like family , they're eating spaghetti from the same plate, literally everyone working so hard, everyone is sleep deprived , eating very little which is so sad but at least they're with each other , later on these moments become memories & form special bond with people we work with. Its emotional because most workplaces & co-workers are so toxic ,mean & only exists to judge you. No wonder Ghibli movies are so wholesome when they are made in wholesome enviornment with everyone's efforts. I hope they all are living happily.

Think of this. He is the director of some of the best movies in the world with a networth of millions. If you’ve seen some other clips of him, he lives simply in a normal home, normal car, eats simple food and so forth. Does not wasting money equate to being a good person? No, but then you can question yourself; why is he making movies? This is what a real artist is like. He loves what he’s doing and he loves to inspire people to live your own life as we have seen in his movies. Hayao first got a degree in economics, to then working as an animator for 20 years before he became a director. Even then, he didn’t get successful for another 20 years. Don’t feel bad thinking back at ghibli movies. If anything, learn from his movies, get inspired by them. Even if you are not an artist, there’s always something you can learn from his movies. As Hayao once said: Being a director means to try and change the world for the better, although nothing changes. This for me is what a real artist, and human being is like.

Well Ghibli as the best working condition out of any animation studio in Japan. The salary is fixed and does not depend of the performence of the movie, absolutly all the benefice goes to the salaries, and night work is regulated (so people can have spare time). Also it is one of the few that give pay parental leave to man, and offer to pay for the childminder of the children if their parent work at the studio

I like to keep my eggs poached in the soup but you can always do it like in the video as a thickener. Alternatively, drop the egg in and just stir it around to get egg scraps floating around everywhere, adds more texture to the soup and makes it feel like you're getting something out of every sip.
