This is a brief video on how to diagnose the flow switch not working if your salt water pool cell stops making chlorine. I also show a hack so that you can make the flow switch work and continue to make chlorine until your new part arrives. Here’s a link to the part I needed for the Hayward flow switch. Make sure that the part you buy is compatible with your pool.

Good advice, Joe. Thanks! I actually found the contacts on my flow sensor dirty, so I cleaned 'em up, but still no flow indicated, so I used an old phone cord and shorted the two middle lines, and I'm generating now! Next question: If I can visually see I have flow through my system and everything else looks good, do I REALLY need a $140 flow detector?!

That’s great that it helped. Unfortunately you do need a flow switch because the system will be tricked like this and it can wear out other more expensive parts sooner like your salt cell. I looked just now on Amazon and you can get a generic flow switch for less than $30. It should do the trick and save you some money. Good luck. amzn.to/3A6xTIk

I just had to replace mine again this week. It seems like these parts only last a few years here. Anyway I got the part on Amazon for $25 in the US. Even with shipping and duty it will be a lot less and it’s extremely easy to install yourself in five minutes. amzn.to/43GRutU

Ok take this with a grain of salt ;) as I’m not there to actually see your pool but it sounds very much to me like the salt cell is working with the hack but you’ve also got a bad temperature sensor. That’s what that error sounds like to me. Check your part inside the attached with a hose clamp. It should be really easy to locate. You need to switch that out. Shouldn’t be too hard to do. Here’s a common one but again check your part by pulling it out. amzn.to/3PT4Rkq
