Today episode 5 and 6 of hazbin hotel released. Like usual in this video i’m going to go through each episode individually, talk about the things i like and then the things i disliked. Lastly ill finish up with some concluding thoughts.
So right off the bat in episode 5 we finally meet lucifer. His voice was quite surprising but i quickly got used to it and i really like it. He’s a multi faceted character where he’s super upbeat and jovial like his daughter charlie, but he’s also clearly depressed and quite nihilistic. We see this firsthand in his room where he hides away and creates ducks. Across the walls are family photos of him with lilith and charlie, highlighting how much things have changed. I think alot of people were expecting lucifer to be this threatening leader of hell, but i think his character is really well designed. He’s from heaven, so it makes sense for him to be so jolly.

My personal theory is that Lilith owns Alastor’s soul (like Ayy Lmao said in the video). It just makes sense, they’ve both been missing for 7 years, Alastor comes back and IMMEDIATELY goes to the hotel and offer help to Charlie, and it would explain his immense hatred of Lucifer. Why wouldn’t you hate the husband of the woman who owns your soul?

@@saltstorm1025 First of all, if they’re guilty (which they are), then it’s not g-cide. Secondly, if they’re in Hell, then they’re supposed to be punished, forever. Death is a mercy, even if Hell isn’t really all that bad in the show. Most importantly, we don’t know the criteria for entering either Heaven or Hell, so Adam and the Exterminators could very well be right.

Adam and the other Angels don’t even choose who gets into Heaven, it would seem. But again, we don’t have enough information to call them the “bad guys”.
@DelightfullyMADD
@DelightfullyMADD 4 ай бұрын
@@Adam-326 This I think sets up two possibilities for how this even works 1) God created the fundamental rules that govern who goes to Heaven and Hell, which would account for Sera herself not understanding how it all works and that souls just 'show up' and thus she doesn't question it. This version actually does suggest a Black & White morality system since the rules for what gets people into Heaven or condems them to Hell are essentially hardcoded into Creation itself. If that's the case then you could no more make a moral argument against it than you could arguing that every living thing having to consume something else to survive is immoral. In this case, the Angels are little more than stewards over creation yet having little understanding of what they're actually presiding over. Some of them may try in earnest to run things well but have no real idea how, while others may take advantage of the seemingly vacant throne in order to basically do what they want. They're like children playing house while Father is away. 2) Who gets into Heaven or Hell is (somewhat) arbitrary and might be based upon one's own sense of self. Someone like Adam would be an example of how this works, as by his overall personality he basically has no sense of shame or self-doubt, and thus despite being a giant tool he nonetheless gets in because he himself truly and deeply 100% believes he should get in. Meanwhile, most sinners, even the psychotic ones (Alastor) basically all fundamentally accept the premise that what they've done has earned them Hell. In this system, even relatively minor offenses might get you into Hell because on some level you _yourself_ believe that's where you're going. In essence, who gets into Heaven or Hell is about state of mind, which of course makes this version very morally ambiguous.

@@swordsmanthegamernine7973There is one thing I find rather interesting. While we haven’t seen Leviathan, Satan, and Belphegor, most of the cast of seven deadly sins seem to be nice people (excluding Mammon ofc lol). In my opinion, based on Lucifer’s lore and the way he acts, he’s classified as the sin of Pride because he committed a sin of pride (aka giving man free will) because he thought it best in his own mind to give them that, showcasing “superiority” against the rule of the angels. He clearly isn’t a confident person as shown in episode 5 and is a rather anxious and implied depressed character. If anything, seems he represents the consequences of pride. He isn’t close to people, he gets so worked up over himself and his creations that he doesn’t take the chance to do things like be a true father to Charlie which led him down the path to end up alone TLDR: He committed a sin of pride that defines his role in hell rather than it directly representing his character/personality

@@valkyrieagainsttheworld that is an interesting take on it honestly. Cause Beelzebub, as seen in Helluva Boss, is the embodiment of ‘too much of a good thing’, she lives to party and do nothing BUT. She wants to consume and never stop, that’s the embodiment of Gluttony. Meanwhile Mammon is…well a greedy little shit fuck. Asmodeus represents Lust but is also capable of Love. I’m curious if Satan is going to actually be overly angry, OR if he’s gonna take a more subdued path to wrath and just be…hateful. Also I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I hope Belphagor has THE MOST GENERIC demon design ever, just red skin and some horns, nothing over the top. You have EVERY REASON to be lazy with Belphagor’s design BECAUSE they’re the sin of Sloth.

No, they send him on Earth with lute saying "you will work with the sweat of your brow." I believe the archangels are fighting the evil(Eve lovecrafts demon form) but they lost Michael, and for this is so messed up around. Thee were something bother me from the pilot there is rainbow thst carried souls to Heaven with only six colors, which blue is missing. Blue is used for Michael. I think Al dislikes Luci for a number of reasons, first one being that Lilith who Lucifer is obviously affiliated with owns Alastor’s soul. We also see that Alastor has quite a fragile ego. He's probably used to being the most authoritative in the room. But here comes Lucifer a jolly zany guy who could not only snap Alastor out of existence if he so wished, he also doesn't bother to know him and unlike Al doesn't feel the need to demonstrate his power as a method of authority. I don't think Al does see Charlie as a daughter, there’s been no inclinations of it in previous episodes, but I do think he knows that in all other aspects he can't beat Lucifer except for his status as a father which he decides to attack.

My theory as of now is that Lilith is the more "evil" of the two parents; since Alastor was away for seven years and Lilith has been missing for as long, AND Husk said Alastor was on a leash, I think Lilith is trying to do something sinister with Alastor as her henchman. Also, when Charlie was having fun with Lucifer as a child in that scene shown in the song, Lilith picked her up and walked her out of there. Something is wrong with Lilith...

Alastor is a violent psychopath who seeks nothing but power and inducing both fear and pain in others (Both when he is alive and as a demon) He probably did it purely for the power coming from making a bargain with one of the most strongest of denizens in Hell and It could've just so that in the contract it says he has to protect Charlie and the hotel She seems to have not been a bad mother, as we know that Charlie seems very close to her. And as Luciferia said, Charlie mentioned it was both of their dreams to redeem people, meaning her mother supports her and wants her protected
@Scyclo

I mean it's quite clear that in the scene with Charlie as a kid with Lucifer, she was up past her bed time. She took her to put her back in bed. I don't think Lilith is evil per se, I do however feel that Lilith and Lucifer grew apart after being cast into hell. I forgot that Charlie said the hotel was her and her mother's dream. In the pilot Vaggie said that suddenly alastor manifested in hell over night and had insurmountable power no sinner has ever had before, and no overlord has seen before. That could be because upon dying and being sent to hell he immediately struck a deal with Lilith, in return for insurmountable power, he would act as Lilith's cleaner. As in, he would be sent to deal with over lords, secretly by Lilith, that were problematic in Lilith's eyes. Which is why he rose to power so quickly because at the time the regime of over lords, outside of zestial since he is the oldest over lord, were deemed as problematic in Lilith's eyes. Who knows Lilith might own Zestial's soul too and she used him as an informant.

@@huntermagnuson8062 It would, if vivzie didn't already mess her series a little up. Many demons show too much empathy for the liking along with angels who are supposed to be just perfect. Especially since vivzie takes their "true representation" very seriously that she is literally using the more graphic designs of the angels like the Seraphims from the bibel. So if they show emotions, they should honestly stick to them at least accordingly to her constant claims of both Luci and Lilith's madly in love rule, instead of changing everything up left and right (It makes it look quiet evident that they have no writers in the shows) like in Helluva Boss. Besides, evil wannabe narcissistic parents are pretty outdated anymore actually, especially after Blitz, Stolas, Crimson, Stella and so much more. The same old thing. I was not expecting the beef between Alister and Lucifer to go that way; if anything I was expecting it to be a power measuring contest. @@Halfbad-bf1lt Yea but the part with Mimzy and alastor after he murdered the lone sharks has me feeling he's slowly but surely starting to think that her plan could very well indeed work, if only slightly. I think, outside of Alastor being a possible antagonist, now with a moral dilemma, alastor is more becoming a neutral party at the hotel, he could care less what happens, it's all entertainment for him, whether the hotel succeeds or fails, it could also be that Lilith, if he is under her leash, owns his soul and is forcing him to help Charlie. Regardless things have gotten interesting and I can't wait for 7 and 8.

Honestly I think what they're going for with this is to show that Lucifer is _still_ basically an angel, despite his Fallen status. Being a Fallen would not necessarily cause a sudden shift in personality, so Lucifer still having his angelic qualities I think makes a good bit of sense. I do agree they could have toned down the silly just a bit, but otherwise I find it refreshing that Lucifer is actually treating Hell like what it's supposed to be for him; a prison. He's the "King" only in the sense that he's the most powerful being there, but he hates it and has no interest in actively ruling, instead just surrounded constantly by eternal reminders of the darkness his actions brought into creation as he's only ever allowed to see the bad, wicked, and vile aspects of Free Will, so of course he's going to be jaded Now as for Lilith - I personally hope she's actually a villain. It would be kind of crap if both she and Adam were both created in the same way and out of the same stuff, yet he just ends up being a huge douche and she's an awesome and amazing person. I'd be far more interested in finding out that Lilith is every bit as bad as Adam, just in different ways, and her and Lucifer splitting up seems to suggest that there may be something to that. Basically 'strong and independent' taken to a toxic extreme in that she chafes under _any_ kind of restriction or obligation, and thus ditched Lucifer and Charlie because she just can't be tied down or beholden to anyone else but herself.

Sooo a couple thoughts i have: Lucifer is exactly how i pictured he'd be and i love his voice. Loved the subtle little Huskerdust moments, like Angel and Husk sharing popcorn, Husk backing Angel up on staying on the right path, Angel handing Husk the shot he took from Nifty with a soft look on his face for a second, etc. Lots of good stuff there! Sir Pentious and Cherri would be amazing lol. I think theyll find a way to each other, as he is awkward and endearing and genuine, and shes a powerhouse that needs something like that. Especially in some scenes we see her looking down until she too puts on a mask like Angel does; somethings bothering her. I want to think Alastor was sent by Lilith, but i honestly think hes tied to Eve/Roo. They did something to get Lilith out of the picture, and now are trying to bring down Lucifer and Charlie. And if theyre somehow tied to Heaven (like with Eve), it explains Zestials mention of Alastor falling to holy arms, the 7 year absence (holy number btw) and the white at the front of his suit.

My top point from episode five was Alastor telling Mimzy to leave, but also opening the offer for her to stay if she was interested in actually aiming for redemption. I find it interesting that even though Alistair does not want Redemption and I think it's really clear that he's probably on a leash with lilith. I think he does actually kind of want Angel sir pentious and even possibly husk to get Redemption. Like Alistair is egocentric and very clearly enjoys the power that he has as an Overlord but he never does anything to actively make it so that Souls can't be redeemed I find it interesting that he really is trying to make the hotel a success. And that made all be because Lilith is pulling the strings but there's almost a genuineness when he offers her a place at the hotel if she really does want to change and I think that's beautiful honestly it shows that maybe Alistair cares.

I always entertained the theory of Vaggie being a fallen angel. I wasn’t fully for it since the evidence seemed circumstantial sometimes so it is funny to see that many people were correct. I was a bit iffy on Lucifer having kind of a high voice, but now I feel like it is very fitting. He was like an excitable kid when he was in Heaven. And when his depression hit, he probably never really “grew up” after that experience. I’m so glad there are genuinely good angels in Heaven. I was really worried the show would have all the heavenly denizens be entitled, judgmental jerks. And Sir Pentious crushing on Cherri was something I didn’t know I needed.

The episodes are funny and had good songs except the welcome to heaven song. I’m glad heaven isn’t bad or corrupted or at least what people were theorizing. "You didn't know" was an amazing song that basically revealed the flaws in their system. The angel in heaven is a mirror image of charlie where she realizes that the human souls in hell have a chance to be redeemed but are sentenced to death without a second chance showing a flaw in the system. While charlie realizes that her people could be redeemed but for some moral high ground and fear they are kept in hell. Demons can be redeemed with effort but aren't allow to, while angels in heaven can do heinous things but can still remain in heaven. Musically and lyrically i also loved this song lol and i keeped on hearing it over and over. Also this whole Vaggie thing also shows another flaw that an angel who did the exact same thing as all the other war angels and got herself INTO heaven is now in hell?(they didn't explain to heaven why she's now in hell when she's an angel) showing that an exchange in people is already possible. Like by their standards Vaggie is a good person able to meet the "criteria" to get into heaven.

It was really distracting in episode 6 because it sounded like Emily, the little angel, and Charlie had the same voice actor. I really disliked that. My other critique is I wish Lucifer had been more serious and powerful. I wasnt a huge fan of how intensely goofy he was. As the most powerful character in hell, you'd think he'd be a bit less of a short dork. Aside from my criticisms though, I had a really fun time and the musicals were awesome.

I think Episode 5 and Episode 6 are really cool especially when we meet Lucifer and Mimzy plus I love seeing Young Charlie during Lucifer and Charlie's song I think seeing Alastor and Lucifer dislike each other is hilarious plus I have never seen Husk so scared in his life especially when he confronted Alastor. Episode 6 having Cherri Bomb in this episode is amazing and I think its funny that Sir Pentious has a crush on her despite these two having fights and turf wars together also I love all the angels in this episode and I have never seen Lute's face revealed before which I guess it's cool plus I can't believe they revealed that Vaggie used to be an angel but got kicked out for saving a Sinner, I do feel sad for Vaggie since she lost an eye when that happened.😁😊😮🥺

Awesome episodes, just finished them (couldn't watch sooner). About ep 5: First, Lucifer was a very interesting character, and I tried to be serious, but the fact that he is so smol just made me laugh a lot. Second, very good song between Alastor and Lucifer. Don't get me wrong, but I don't believe that Alastor really thinks that way towards Charlie, he got a plan, and he is very good at manipulating people. Third, damn, poor Husker. Fourth, finally some Alastor action scene. Now, about ep 6: I'll be short, I loved seeing Angel facing Val, man, I really wanna see Angel killing him at some point, might not be on Season 1, but that gotta happen. Oh, and Vaggie is screwed, how is she going to explain THAT to Charlie?

I was thinking that Lucifer will be more like Alastor. Looking and beeing nice, but it would be just mask. Like in real lif... no I am sorry, I wasnt... 1:45 I was watching that part frame by frame (dont ask why) and I noticed that whole corridor had blackout and red light was only in parts where Alastor was standing in. So the light was moving with him, horror movie like.

Episode 6 won me over and I warmed up to the show abit, it and episode 5 ending felt like it was a serious show for a time. I still continue saying that short number of episodes in season is a huge problem, we got so many bomb shells in ep 6 and show just doesn't have time to develop them. I mean with episode title like "Hello Rosie" will it be enough to develop Charlie, Vaggie relationships, hell's reaction to 6 month time being shortened to 1 month, etc etc
@bjwill9047
@bjwill9047 4 ай бұрын
Also hells time wasn’t shortened to one month, 5 months had just passed naturally in the show. In episode five Charlie mentions how she told her dad about the bite 5 months ago, so it was a bit of a time jump

Alastor saying he and Charlie have bonded, and he feels like a father figure came out of nowhere. What bond Alastor? You've barely interacted with Charlie, except talk down to her. This show has a bad telling, but not showing problem. And the 5 month timeskip is jarring, we're just zooming through the time.
@bjwill9047
@bjwill9047 4 ай бұрын
That was on purpose, alastor is lying to get under lucifur skin and simply to get Charlie more on his side for a reason. It’s pretty clear from how he acts later on he’s simply putting on a show to get the hotel into trusting him, like how when he’s fighting those guys who barged in Charlie is like “see he’s helping, why aren’t you?”. It’s simply a trick, Charlie just falls for it cause she’s really naive and optimistic As for the time skip, well they kinda had to, they don’t got a lot of time to progress over months of time naturally. And it makes pretty good sense actually, a few months makes it more believable that these people like each other more now.
@aaunyea4799
@aaunyea4799 4 ай бұрын
@@bjwill9047 but Charlie acts like she sees the bond too. So she's either stupid or desperate for any type father figure. Even one that said he doesn't believe in her dream either, but it'd be fun to watch her try and fail

Not feeling up to doing a detailed response, but I want to say I really appreciate this review! I'm an animator, so I was mainly distracted by the drop in animation quality starting with episode five (quick explanation is: there's more tweening, and the art style is less consistent between shots, as in how the characters are drawn stylistically as well as how things like their lineart are handled). So I'm glad the first reviewer I found for these episodes gave it an even-handed perspective from someone who likes the series. For sure the pacing is definitely an issue, with it the worst in these two episodes by far. Anyway, my main point is, thanks for the good and quick review! You have some impressive pacing yourself (as a sincere compliment) to get reviewing both these episodes in under seven minutes!

Honestly, I'm in love with and on board for the Alastor having ties to Lilith theory, but with Vivzie wanting to involve Roo by some point, maybe it's possible he's under some form of connection to Roo, or that Roo enlists him to further cause chaos, etc. (given with her as being the root of all evil, Alastor involved himself with her, since he was happily involved as a serial killer when he was alive)? I'd love if Lilith is the one he's tied to, with that subtle hint from Husk that he answers to a higher authority, but I can't lie and say that Roo didn't cross my mind, either. MAYBE he's technically under Lilith, but it's the imposter Lilith theory (in that it's Roo taking Lilith's image)? So, HE IS under Lilith, but it's in reality a disguised Roo? Just had to throw that out here. And with how Lilith looked during the song with Lucifer in the flashback sequence, she seemed so vague in appearance, so it makes you wonder...

I sort of got Blitz vibes from Lucifer. He usually has a happy demeanor but desperately needs therapy and jokes about how messed up he is. I loved Lucifer's line "My daughter wants to see me. Take THAT depression!" It seemed like something Blitz would say and was very well delivered by his voice actor.

I agree with most of your takes about the episodes. My opinion on the angels reaction to Charlie cursing is a phenomenon that happens to many people in minorities. As a black person I have watch my language and use no slang at work or it reflects poorly on my race. It means I'm just like all those stereotypes say. A demon around angels is under a lot of scrutiny, than an angel is.

As for the 5th episode... Alastor always steals the show. He was so scary this time and it was the first time he said fck you, omg, he is a heartless son of a btch indeed but Husk said he's on a leash so it's becoming obvious he has a deal with Lilith or Eve or whatever happened 7 years ago. So what if Alastor made a deal with Lilith for a power and she got his soul and she parted with Lucifer and now she commanded Al to spy on Charlie and he wants to make a deal with Charlie to trade his soul for a soul of Charlie? These are just my thoughts. Idkw but this situation makes me feel uncomfortable because I root Al whatever he's up too. I'm scared(

Why does every Deadly Sin so far in this Universe have to be easy to disrespect like that? Moxxie can stand up to Asmodeous consequence free. Loona can tell Beelzebub to back off without even so much as being threatened. With Mammon i can understand the circumstances. Fizz had another Deadly Sin aka Asmodeous backing him up. And now Lucifer is easy to bother like this? I know both shows have a element of comedy to it, but cmon. Let's have some more respect for the Kings of Hell. Yes?

I think the thing that really made episode 6 Stand Out was just seeing how even in a situation like the nightclub. Angel and even the others actively try to do what's best for the group and not just for themselves. You see that angel really does care for all of these people the fact she stands up to Valentino despite the fact that Valentino owns his soul is honestly beautiful character growth. And it contradicts what heaven says. Heaven was corrupt and that the rules were arbitrary but the fact they don't even know what allows a soul to come into heaven or not just shows that this is an unjust system that is judging people without giving them a chance or taking into consideration that not everyone gets to have a life where it's easy to be a good person. Hell I even see the fact that Vaggi decides not to kill one demon because she feels remorse for the fact that it's implied this is a child. Means that she's immediately fallen and therefore no longer able to go back to heaven when in reality If Heaven really did care all that much they would see her giving Mercy to what is implied to be a child as a noble quality because that opens up even more questions why is a child in hell what did this child do that somehow made them Unworthy of Heaven? The reason I bring this up is I'm a kindergarten teacher and I have students that sometimes do bad things nothing horrendous but they do sometimes hurt other people because again their children they're learning boundaries and they're at that stage of life where things are still all about them at home but they're starting to be about more of the collective outside of the home. And yes sometimes they do things that result in losing something like toy time at the end of the day. And so I'm wondering if that is the reason that child or that demon that at least looks like a child is in hell because they made a choice that wasn't the nicest but wasn't out open intent to do direct harm but by Heaven's now no non-existent standards was that enough to send a child to hell?
@sararitoagostinho2956
@sararitoagostinho2956 4 ай бұрын
I mean I think there's a case of a child serial killer that murdered like three babies or something? Children can absolutely do horrendous things. If it was as simple as doing some not nice things, hell would be full of children but there's barely any. There's probably some standards to get into heaven, it's just that no one seems to know what they are, souls just kinda show up there and heaven assumes they're worthy. Considering Adam, though, those standards are obviously pretty flawed. I'd say it's probably God that decides, and if Adam really is made in his image that's def not a good thing.
@Lolalolo1996
@Lolalolo1996 4 ай бұрын
@@sararitoagostinho2956 yes children can do horrendous things I'm not saying that they can't but I do find it interesting that there is a child in hell keeps popping up in my mind which is are we dealing with catholicism's version of being a good person or are we going with an American Evangelical version. Because if it's the Evangelical version all they have to do is say they accept Jesus Christ as their lord and savior and then they get to go to heaven but if it's Catholicism where you have to have been baptized and show Penance every single week by going to confession that might also play a part in this. Maybe this is a child who did some bad things maybe not murder but did some bad things but because they weren't baptized if we're going with a Catholicism Viewpoint or didn't have a chance to repent maybe that's why they're there? Still what I find interesting is the fact that Angels at least in my understanding of Christianity are supposed to be a little bit merciful and I know that the extermination is not really about being merciful. But I find it interesting that baggie who does show Mercy a quality that Christianity touts as being so important ends up with her becoming Fallen.

Honestly feels like they crammed two seasons into one. Like the first 2 episodes feel like a mix between a season 1 plot and season 2 plot then the last half just feels like a season 2 plot. I think the first season should've focused just the main cast with Charlie trying to figure out how to actually rehabilitate sinners rather than this idolized summer camp stuff. Now that I think about it they've could've had each episode focus on one or two of the main cast in the first season to get to know them, do some funny hijinks stuff and have the V's be the kind of joke main antags like what they usually do for the first season. Then have Adam and Lute introduced at the last episode. Then the second season could've started with the fallout with the extermination going down to 6months, meeting the other Overlords, etc. Then y'know everything that has happened after meeting the Overlords except episode 4. Episode 4 is defiantly a season 1 ep. Maybe its cause that has been the formula for most cartoons that have come out recently so my thats just how my brain thinks a tv should work but it strangely works. Especially if you want people to get to know your characters more
