During his final monolog, he doesn't just sound angry. He sounds genuinely confused. As far as we're concerned, he never ate the forbidden fruit and learned the difference between right and wrong. All this time, he was just naive and never had the chance to grow. Non of the angels corrected his behavior because "he's already in Heaven, so he must be a good person, right?" I really hope he comes back as a sinner and actually gets a good character arc.

Adam said that they all should be worshipping him because he started everything, and this is something he genuinely believes, and so can't grasp that they're so against it. He literally can't conceive the idea that he *isn't* the center of the universe

Adam is fascinating. Up front: he's a narcissist and a terrible person. He's destructive, abrasive, and disrespectful. But putting him into context: he's had 5000 years to develop narcissistic personality traits. Or at least, develop them into the rancid ones we see now. As the first man, he was made to be perfect and a match set. He didn't marry Lilith because they met in a coffee shop and she fell for him or something. They were made for each other, and she left that relationship. The kind of ego damage that could do is unimaginable. Then, after he clearly didn't pursue or otherwise attempt to inflict retribution upon Lilith, he was given a new wife made from his own flesh. Lilith was free to walk the earth and exist unmarred. And yet she and Lucifer (who lets be real, he was an angel and didn't have a drop of malice in him), connvinced Eve to partake of the fruit of knowledge. This Ruined Adam's life, again. Clearly at some point Eve left Adam too, and Lilith was again at the center of it all. Then his Own children became sinners with the free will they were granted by knowledge. This guy's life was ruined twice by the person he was Made to be with and his descendants fell to evil as well. No wonder he's got such ego problems. No wonder he's chomping at the bit to get rid of sinners. No wonder his slightly condescending respect for Vaggi turned to Vitriol when he brought up the fact that she was Lying to her partner. Adam is such an interesting character and I can't wait to see more of him. If Sirpentious can rise, then Adam definitely fell. He died ranting about how his own descendants should be worshipping him

@@GolAcheron-fc4ug I'm not sure since I heard the reason we have the name "Adam's Apple" for guys is because Adam TRIED to eat the apple but apparently is so lame he can't even eat a piece of fruit right and it got stuck in his throat. So they're saying he TECHNICALLY never ate it but gained knowledge anyway, and was still cursed. And being sinless doesn't mean being perfect. It just means you don't increase your sin counter because of your innocence. Animals are considered sinless but they can do horrible horrible things. but they aren't held accountable for it since they don't know any better. They live in nature and nature doesn't give AF.

For a character that I thought would be one-note from his first appearance, Adam genuinely turned into one of the most interesting (and funniest) characters on the show. I never would have imagined that his death would have such a strong impact on me. From the way Lute was desperately crying out in anguish to him, begging him to stay with her, to Adam using the last of his strength to give a reassuring/grateful smile to the one person who's never abandoned him, it surprisingly got me choked up a bit. Couldn't help but recall this Charlie quote from the pilot: "Look...every single one of you has something good deep down inside...I know you do." I really hope they bring Adam back as a fallen angel in Hell for Season 2. There's so much story potential with him slowly coming to grips with the knowledge that he had become every bit as bad (maybe even more so) as the people he so joyfully executed year after year, then making a genuine effort to change his ways to actually earn a spot in Heaven this time around.
@boxman7044
@boxman7044 3 ай бұрын
Well from what is implied Adam DID earn his spot in heaven, I mean look at seras face when Pentious ascends, clearly even the seraphim don’t have input on who ends up in heaven or hell. And considering we don’t have confirmation of gods existence in the hazbin verse, it’s possible it’s an automatic process. It’s actually infinitely more sad if Adam *was* worthy of heaven, but due to his time alone and left to stir in his negative emotions with angels that either refuse to correct or straight up encourage his bad habits. And then there’s Adam being the first human soul in heaven, which implies Abel didn’t make it to heaven, which also suggest none of his other kids did either. That much time alone on top of all of the other things that happened is a pretty good recipe to turn a good person into the Adam we see in the show

Adam is the first human. He didn’t have a mother, and his “father” wasn’t the sort who a mortal could particularly relate to. He didn’t get any proper instruction on what proper human social behavior was and his life after the expulsion from Eden wasn’t pleasant. Moreover he is “cursed” and he probably refuses to take any of the blame for it. He’s carrying a whole bunch of emotional baggage with no one to help him deal with it or manage it properly. It does make one wonder whether Adam is “inevitable” in that sort of situation. What comes to mind with Adam is a kid from “Lord of the Flies” who actually survived to adulthood.

Additionally, no one seems to really take into account that here he was, the first man, trying his best with no instruction... and then his first wife decides to betray him with a fallen angel. And then later that same fallen angel comes along, tempts his second wife with the forbidden fruit of knowledge and messes things up for Adam yet again. Makes me think of what Georgia says at 1:35, the stunted sense of humor and personal growth due to psychological injury. So, while the character of Adam is a jerk and a good villain we love to hate, everyone seems quick to dismiss Lucifer's role in making Adam who he is. Or at least, with the information we have on the characters, that's my take. Might be we get a peek and turns out Adam has always been this shallow. I hope not, I'd prefer a bit of depth to his character, but that remains to be seen

my dad has diagnosed narcissistic personality disorder. He has shortcomings with this, but it's hard to live with someone for 20 years, whom i would not consider even approaching abusive, with this type of unconfronted personality disorder, without humanizing that part of them. Adam is a cartoonish depiction of this, but in his more toned down moments, it was genuinely cathartic to see how much i saw of my dad in him. Again, that's not to say my dad is a bad guy - growing up, the reason i'm not scared of bugs and pest animals is that when we saw them, he would always catch them and let me look at them. he explained the parts of their bodies, how to handle them safely, and even let me hold a corn snake he found in the garden at about age 10 when he deemed me to be ready. He was always a great father to me growing up, but unfortunately his strong need for some level of control, while not as all encompassing as it is in stronger cases, is not conducive to me having a very close relationship to him as an adult. He can light up a room with the best stories and the most interesting facts he's learned from science and history books - as long as everyone in that room either agrees with his conclusions, or realizes that their opinion doesn't matter. Anyway, this is a fantastic video! I love how you take care in all of your videos to make it very clear that there is no "evil" disorder, only bad ways of coping (or not coping). I already knew this about you, but having a clinical narcissist in my life who I respect and love, I have to admit I was a bit nervous about this one.

I definitely see that injury with Adam with the fact both his wives went against him. Lilith, the one made for him, rejected him. Then when Eve came around she chose the apple and damned the world, somewhat choosing that over Adam. Adam was probably wondering why he wasn't good enough, why no one would stick around, why they didnt want him. And the fact his wife and her new boyfriend ruined his second wife would be some critical emotional damage and trauma and pain. Now does this excuse his behavior? No! But it makes sense why he'd cling to such a egotistical persona, this narcissistic shell to soothe the deep wound of abandonment and worthlessness. The man needs therapy and a decent role model. Considering he had no to talk to or give him guidance and was instead pacified by being elevated to an angel general in heaven, he's never had a chance to be corrected and consoled over what's going on with him. Heaven obviously thought he was great otherwise they wouldn't be letting him get away with everything he does. They are showing him the adoration and praise he wanted his whole life, but he keeps wanting more of it and it won't work because it won't fill that hole left by that trauma until he learns how to address it

It's amazing how, every time I see a video or post talking about narcistic personality disorder, I'm reminded of my old college roommate and one of my former best friends. He once told me that he only makes friends with people that he thinks he can take in a fight. He saw relationships and sex as his way of establishing a hierarchy. I had sex for the first time in college and he made sure to tell me that the girl I was with also texted him and they would have "totally hooked up by now" if he hadn't been in a relationship. A relationship that he was CONSTANTLY bragging about to everyone around him, including strangers. Then when he broke up with his girlfriend he assumed he'd finally be able to do all the hooking up that he missed out on...only to find no one wanted to do that with him. I started dating a girl that was one of the people he figured he'd easily be able to hook up with and he couldn't handle it. In his eyes I was now above him in the hierarchy. So he went to her and told her lies about me that she knew would hit on a lot of her insecurities and past traumas. While she and I fought he texted her saying "I hope you two can work things out." We broke up because of the fight and the two of them started dating. But I got the hell out of the house that we were living in together. I didn't want to live in a house with an emotionally manipulative bastard who threatened physical violence against me. And I think he was completely thrown through a loop because he saw me as under his thumb. I've heard from stories of mutual friends that he started treating more people openly as tools and more of his friends started leaving him. I think I was the first person to stand up to him/cut him out of their life and he did not take it well.

One little scene that really stood out to me was when Lute had her brief solo during "You didn't know". If you look in the background Adam was serving as her hype-man just as enthusiastically as she did for him during "Hell is Forever". Given Adam's clear need to be the center of attention I thought it was interesting that he so willing and enthusiastically played second fiddle to Lute even if it was for a very short time, that is just not something I would expect from a narcissist like Adam. Then as he lays dying, he give Lute what seems to be a genuinely kind smile as if he was trying to comfort her in his final moments which again is not something I would expect from a narcissist. There are three things I would like to know about Adam. The first is if he was always like what we see in the show or did becoming the first human soul in Heaven help feed his ego until it spun out of control? The second is how did the end of his marriage to Lilith look like from his perspective? Keep in mind that book Charlie read from was an account from Lucifer and Lilith's perspective and while I do not believe either of them did anything wrong, nor do I have any reason to believe they were lying, that is still their version of events and people tend to remember things in the light most favorable to themselves and the worst possible light for anyone they do not like. Put another way, imagine if the person who hates you the most wrote a book, would you expect it to paint you in a positive light? The third thing I would like to know is what happened to his marriage with Eve and how did that affect Adam? To be clear, I do not think the answers of any of these questions would engender much sympathy from me and even if they did, they can not excuse his actions and behaviors. However, I do think they could offer some insight to understanding Adam. On another note, I am more than a little worried that Georgia is thinking about doing a video on Niffty because when a character voiced by Keith David says "You don't want to know" I am inclined to believe them. I will still watch it of course as well as any video covering Huskar or Sir Pentious. Another character that might be worth a short video on his Sera, sure she had less than 5 minutes on screen but they packed a lot of character into that brief screen-time and quite a few people seemed to have missed that her motivations were quite different from Adam's

He seems like a good "boss" since she doesn't sigh or hate her job, like "I have to endure this every day", she doesn't feel like she needs to clean up after him, she's actively participating and validating him. I feel the very last moment between Adam and Lute is important. He is dying, facedown, in utter disgrace, but at his lowest low, the one person that could be considered his friend, possibly the only on who could reign him in and he would listen to in earnest, shows a display of absolute sadness at his fading, and I feel that moment of genuine validation and appreciation for who he was is the only moment he cared about someone more than himself. But that's perhaps a romanticized read of the moment. Maybe Lute's mourning was not validation of his self-worth as someone to be cared about, but worshipped. I sincerely hope we see him return as a demon.

Adam is a pretty interesting character when you look deeper into his personality and backstory. It’s obvious to note that his brash and egotistic attitude stems from him never having any role models to teach him how to be a decent person, but I feel like it could also be a mask he wears to hide his insecurities and trust issues. Looking through his pov, he was betrayed by both his wives (Lilith straight up hated and ran away from him, while Eve ate the apple). Obviously they weren’t the ones at fault here and were just trying to get away from Adam’s awful treatment of them. But because he was never taught empathy and had already ascended to heaven, Adam never got to reflect on his actions and realize that HE was the problem. To cope with his hurt, he wears his title as “first man” to an extreme degree while still retaining his bitterness towards women because of the memories of his wives. He really does embody toxic masculinity. I also imagine the reason why he hated Charlie so much was because she’s the daughter of Lucifer and Lilith, the two people he hates the most. To him, Charlie is a constant reminder of the family/legacy he could have had with Lilith and everything he lost to Lucifer (doesn’t help that she looks exactly like him).

A lot of people are theorizing that Adam will come back as a Sinner in Season 2 of Hazbin. I think that this could give him the chance of an actual redemption arc. I would love to see how you could unpack what growth in a Narcissist would actually look like. The big crisis as I see it is- Accepting that he was wrong. That’s a big self-identity AND worldview problem. 1) Self-Identity: First He'll “good” and “evil” are not inherent, immutable traits. You spoke about a Narcissistic Injury. How can you get a Narcissist to de-identify with "good-person" "saint" as that narcissistic armor and get to the core of his emotional injuries (re-literal absent-father and loss of his partner). I would love to him actually have someone he cares about stick by him after he's fallen. Not in an enabling way, but in a 'I think you're worth-it' way. 2) World view: Then he'll need to accept: The system that elevated you did so for its own preservation, not (entirely) because of your merit. He wasn't a great or particularly adept leader. He was just the best idiot at the time to throw at the problem. What does that say about the rest of heaven? He was complicit in a great wrong? Does he even have the psychological fortitude to address? I've seen both of these psychological hurtles trip a lot of people up in real life, and destroy otherwise well-written characters. The only other media I’ve encountered that ACTUALLY tackles this in a satisfactory manner is 'The Good Place'. And even then I have yet to see it tackled with someone like Adam all the way through in satisfactory way. My big bet is that Sera will end up being the Final villain. She's already shown a willingness to do whatever is necessary to maintain the status quo, and the status quo is exactly what Charlie is trying to dismantle. I'm really truly hoping that Adam gets an ACTUAL, IN DEPTH, REDEMPTION ARC, throughout the season. The only thing in the way of that for him is a catalyst. What could possibly make a narcissist WANT to change? Truly want to change. To be vulnerable and practice feeling empathy? I would love to hear more of your thoughts on this. PS- I've just subscribed to your nebula channel. As a professional animator who's a bit of a psychology nerd it's great to hear your analysis. Keep going!!!

One of my favorite little moments is in Adam and Charlie's first meeting and he says: "I LOVE putting my name on sh**," that it's a nod to the story that God put him in charge of naming every animal. As a lifelong Christian, I've often thought about the mental trauma on Adam and Eve, and Adam's devolution has a clear path. He was created by God and told that He values him even above angels, and yet it was an Angel that his first wife Lilith fell in love with. After the trauma of that, he was promised a "helper" in Eve made from his own rib and, at first Eve may have been like that. I love the musical "Children of Eden," because it doesn't demonize Eve. It shows how before Luci even came back in the picture, she was already yearning for her own agency over creation, knowing she has her own "spark of creation," and she wanted to create too. Luci gave her what she needed to do so. Adam, likely not wanting a repeat of Lilith, did what Eve asked and ate the fruit too. He probably wanted to save this relationship. But because he did that, God cast both of them out and forced them into the wilderness for the rest of their lives. Adam NEVER heard from the only father figure in his life, his Creator, ever again. Then, the first sons Adam ever created, one killed the other and the killer and all his progeny to the seventh generation were marked to be ostracized by all mankind. And assuming Adam died before Eve, he WAS the first human soul into Heaven, so he was nepotismed in. But in HH, it's clear that God still never talks to Adam. And everyone just lets him stay in Heaven because he was the first. Sera even shrugs and says so during the trial. The smile he gives to Lute before he dies is probably two-fold: 1) Lute is probably the closest person he felt affection for because she always took his orders unlike his wives, but his narcissism prevents him from respecting her or loving her 2) He was probably genuinely happy to see Lute breaking down over his death. That after the rejection from Lilith and God, someone, ANYONE, truly cares that he's around

A moment I think would be worth noting is when Vaggie reads his list of behaviors on how to get to heaven and questions it. Adam, who is first sure of himself that those are the reasons he got there himself, then looks up at Sera with doubt for reassurance. For some reason, that cene really stuck out to me. It's probably one of the only times Adam seems actually genuine. I could be looking too much into it though

You should do his enabler, Sera too. At least enabling is the vibe I get from their interactions. He continues to be narcissistic, even in front of the entire court, and even openly disobeys her, yet she does nothing and remains complicit.

I think Adam has a partly bruised ego from Lucifer "stealing" Lilith and it probably didn't help Eve so willingly listened to Lucifer, further damaging his ego. Perhaps this is was the spark that caused Adams incredible amounts of narcissistism. And also why Lucifer got under Adams skin significantly more than Alastor, too the point of literally tearing the hotel in half. Edit: i remember Lilith's name (Perhaps it's also why Adam has such a flattering way of treating the ladies)

he is built from scratch to be the grown up version of the teen bully. he's built di be hated but at the same time admired. in the end we rightully hate him, but the one line where he screams "ATTAAAAAACK!" with the organs in the background, makes his character worthy.

Not a word about his actual final moment? Smiling at the one woman who was by his side after everything? After he got taunted about how all the people supposed to love him abandoned him, and by the same fallen angel who took them both away in the first place?

Narcissism often comes with an intimate understanding of power dynamics. Because they want to be at the top at all times. They understand the concept of consequences. And are capable of reining themselves in When it would harm them.

I wonder how much it would tick Adam off if he learned that at least one church on Earth refers the Original Sin as The Fall of Adam. Jokes aside, a remarkable look into his psyche. Although it may be a tad tricky to consider a few things like how he started life as a grown man without parents. Also yes. Please. Do one for our precious snake boi. He deserves all the attention and love that Adam believes himself to have.

I love that you brought up the swearing cause i awlays found that ironic about Adam. This dude swore more in a single sentence than any drmon in hell did in a single conversation. Also i truly believe the narcissistic wound your talking about is Eve taking the fruit and being the root of all evil, this wound could have very well been deepened when his children followed suit (I don't think Caine and Abel exist in Hazbin Hotel but it eould be interesting if they did)

I thinks Adam is deeper than that, like the smile in the end when Lute calls out to him. I also think he is less self-centered in his first talk with Charlie than you give him credit. He is one of the few that actually likes Charlie's singing and even complements her on it. He also let's her have the spotlight, by asking her about her weekend .

Although they forcefully made him a villain and took the extermination of sinners and the refusal of those to ascend as a pure whim of the angels, he was right, they had a lifetime to repent but they did not, how many innocent lives? would they have ruined? whether murdering, raping adults and children, among other atrocious crimes. Hell in the series was just another slightly ugly place, it's not like they were tortured or anything like that, it's the very existence of the sinners that makes it even worse than it is. If the hell in the series really were a "hell", the sinners should be happy to finally be able to put an end to their "suffering", but that doesn't happen, right? Why aren't they suffering? Do you know what's the funniest thing? That in the series, IN THE WHOLE TIME OF HELL'S EXISTENCE NEVER BUT NEVER was there a sinner who had redeemed himself and had done ENOUGH to ascend to heaven before Mr. Pentious, it is not as if the angels blocked that way but rather we saw that There was always that option. The plot of the series is too forced On top of that, Charlie wants to use that method that has proven to be one in BILLIONS, to reduce the overpopulation of hell. How many sinners die every day and at what rate is it even possible for sinners to be redeemed? It's not even remotely feasible.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate that you didn't only focus on the negative aspects of narcissism in this video. I was born into a family with a narcissistic father who did end up being abusive, but I feel as though that's become the stereotype of the condition at this point and I think it is very important to remind people that just because you have a personality disorder, that doesn't automatically make you a bad person, and there are often reasons behind the behavior. I have a lot of respect for you as this is something that I see overlooked in a lot of videos dealing with the topic.

You really should have included the scene where Lute rushed towards dying Adam. I know, it is video about persona analysis rather than scene analysis, but I think it was great example of narcissistic person revealing their damaged side that they hide behind the shell of self-appraisal. In all scenes we get the expression of Adam being pretty much aggressive towards everyone around him in order to assert the dominance, but at that very last scene he gave one single, genuine and gentle smile. Happiness, gratitude.. love? Whatever that emotion was, it's safe to say, that in those last seconds we saw the real Adam, without the grip of the narcissistic mask, revealing himself to the most reliable person he had in his life - Lute. Overall, nice video and cosplay! Waiting for the Husker breakup

Technically speaking, in Vovzipop's script, adam *did not* eat the apple of knowlege, and that means that he has a moral compass with no needles. Also hes the first human, nobody told him how to do better And also, at 1:53 , he didnt eat the apple of knowlege, that mightve affected Adam's behaviour

Loved the video, it's so nice to get a professional perspective at Adam and how he treats others, especially in his contrast of how he treats Charlie vs how he treats Sera and the other Seraphim. Where he's able to berate and demean Charlie with no issues because he deems her as lesser, but because Sera is his boss and is higher up than him, he treats her a lot better even if he is still pretty disrespectful. Also please please please do our precious snake boi next, I'd love to see your analysis on him.
