hi hawolt here, while I could respond to some of the comments here to clarify a few things given my lawyers permission, I still don't want to take any risks - all I can say is do your own research, there is answers to every question you have if you search for it or ask the correct people

Did my own research 0:00 fake - he tells you that he can fake a ban message at 10:09 0:11 fake - only 120RP with "unlimited RP exploit" 9:02 also looks like 16 transactions so no way he got to even numbers of 120RP 2800BE and so on...

Riot games target bans people, i had an account I haven’t played for like a year and I played on it there were people spamming me kys and all sort of bad stuff and all I said is stfu and let me play my game I got permanently banned only for that. I tried to talk to riot support multiple of times trying to make sense into this but all of them were extremely rude and disrespectful. It’s sickening how the system works tbh that is exactly why I even stopped enjoying or playing the game. I am glad you spoke out and pointed out some things.

Hot take but i think that some of these bugs are intentional backdoors left by few devs who work directly on the source code to exploit them in their free time, thinking that nobody else would find it because others don't have direct access on the source code and it's kinda hard to find it yourself even with Netherblade, wireshark or some custom alternative.

He basically did the riot's job for them by showing all the issues that needed to be fixed. Some may be known by the rioter's and some may have come to light because of him. I say just hire the guy and let him fix the issues that he found.

The thing is that Riot DOES KNOW but they profit from the bugs - how you might ask? Until recently RP sellers have been directly involved with Riot employees, they were getting infinite amazon prime accounts due to Riot having a deal with Amazon which let them get as many accounts hooked up as they wanted, Riot employees actively tell and help rp sellers transfer RP between accounts etc. Its all for profit, the launcher being broken doesn't stop them from earning money unless its the shop that has an issue - then they fix it. Game bugs and exploits that ban people are just more money because if someone who spent money on skins gets banned, they have a high chance of spending money again.

It’s not stupid. They probably know all of these things at riot games. These types of things exist in a lot of companies. Think of it like this, you probably lock your house or apt. If someone kicks your door open, you don’t hire them as a security analyst. You knew they could do that.

Not always worth it to hire these people. Paying for finding exploits (white hats) is usually better. Because if he has nothing more to find, he is just a useless worker. Giving white hat bounties is something many companies do instead.

@@jackjackjackjack Factually wrong. A lot of tech giants have had cases of hiring notable hackers. Jailbreak creator was hired by Apple, the guy who created a worm for Facebook dropped out of college and was immediately hired by Facebook, Google had quite a few examples as well - those are just from the top of my head, you can find a lot of examples on the Internet tho.

the lobby crash exploit is back in the game. Currently there are tons of people running around in high elo lobbies who have their own custom exploit client (it even has a crash lobby button..), crashing any lobbies they don‘t want to play in (since they obv also see their teammates)

11:44 This one's the one that caused the cease and desist. You can guess that if that information was given to you, there was more, much more. More than 20 million accounts are now in the possesion of "bad actors". This isn't public just cause it's not good for business, and Hawolt was the only one with a voice who could've exposed it. Even if you change your password, there's no going back from that, if they have your password they will have the next password you use. If you search "League of Legends cracked accounts", a lot of them are given away in a certain forum. Also in big servers a lot of accounts are sold for pennies now, this is to let cheaters roam free in disposable accounts. Thus Vanguard is being added to the game, just ban the cheaters and let the players deal with everyone else.

This is exactly why if Riot Games does end up adding Vanguard, i will quit LoL forever. The fact that it runs even if you close LoL is suspicious enough. But the problem is that if Riot Games can't make sure that a Userspace application (i.e the League client) is safe, how can we trust that their complex KERNEL-LEVEL application (Which are way more difficult to debug and develop) is safe and that no malicious actor would abuse it?

In 2010 or 2011 you could simply edit flash file in game's folder and simply change prices of RP to 0 :D and buy everything for 0 RP :D they patched it asap tho

Thank you for the information video and props for featuring Hawolt. Don't let people belittle your efforts as you've done decent journalist work. im sure you are not too tech savy and not many people here so you probably didnt fully understand everything however you did your best and thats fine. As for Hawolt all i can say is massive props for your work, while riot will not recognize just how much you've done for them by testing these vulnerabilities and exploits, you have done a hell of a lot more than any of their devs that supposedly should be testing a lot of this for exploits. Im not 100% sure about some of the drama with selling exploits, directing to discord, as i have not done any research on that matter but regardless, if I was riot I would have been looking to hire you not punish you. While the initial interaction between Hawolt and riot may have not been the best the following facts remain. 1. The client has numerous heavy vulnerabilities and exploits 2. Hawolt seems to be an exceptionally capable programmer and can provide an invaluable service to Riot as a whitehat or even contracted tester. 3. The fact that the Riot person in charge did not see this as an opportunity to achieve something positive by working with this individual is a shame considering how much there is to be gained from such a collaboration. Would it have been me, im hiring this individual on a minimun of 6 figure salary. Thats the kind of 10x dev skills that companies would kill eachother to have regardless of any conduct around his approach to security/publicity of the leaks. Respect to both of you 🙏.

it exists in every other competetive game. its function is to get the rank and mmr to match if they are too different. other riot's games have it. but nooo....league doesnt have it. we promise. (if we admit it exists we hurt ourselves so why would we admit to it)

It seems that most if not all Tencent games have engaged matchmaking, its just whether league has it or not. Lots of evidence points towards it but no official confirmation AFAIK

the best answer is: no, it doesn't, as far as null hypothesis rule goes 1) notice how the value for the code that protects against autofilled is FALSE 2) even if we're protected against autofilled after a streak: that's a WINNER queue, not LOSER. funny how we almost never hear about people complain how it's unfair to be in winner queue, don't you? don't you just love how league players are so stuck in their own biased echochamber... that they use evidence that disproves their preconception as proof of their assumption? ironically, Hawolt himself later proved that Loser Queue doesn't exist using simulated matchmaking despite his initial belief

i mean tbh this just shows that riot code is very flawed but that riot are very willing to fix the bugs if found. The only real downside is there unwillingness to rewrite the whole league of legends code in order to make it modern and more updatable, so that they can input new features without the whole thing crumbling. I love all your other vids and I really respect you for going the "journalism" route but this video is getting worse by the minute. I don't know why a certain person has to be always right or always wrong. Hawolt did find alot of bugs but he did deliver insane amounts of false reports. In most big companies the people tweeting responses are indeed not the experts who tackle these issues, but before they respond to the public they get confirmation by the tech experts. Riot Oberon doesn't have to be tech savy to respond to public criticism, esp when his response was good. Why would the server share this data to your client unless it was for display purposes? Any software engineer knows the difference between a frontend(client) and a backend (server). The riot server chooses which people to pair you with (that's why you cannot actually check who's in your actual queue or which 10 people are in the match when the accept screen pops. You can only do that after you're in champ select). Other technical aspects were off too, but my main concern is - don't vilify/glorify people when making documentaries. Try to be accurate.

No? Because they know that stuff exists, its just that if no one uses it or rarely someone, its just not worth to fix it and will get a low priority of course. Hawolt showed it and so more and more knew about some stuff and they didn't like that. The sad thing is, that it should just be allowed by law or devs should have X time to fix something before it gets public.

A C&D was the best way to shut them up. If you google "League of Legends Cracked Accounts" you can find some posts with thousands of free active and inactive accounts, that's what caused the C&D, them having to remove payment information from every account, putting AI to reply "Report a player" tickets on Riot Support, and Vanguard since people would use cracked accounts to cheat and discard (HWID ban avoids the cycle). Reddit posts are usually the way to make things public easily, but the ones about hacked accounts are deleted due to forum rules. Sadly Hawolt exposed Tencent/Riot to lose millions if such things become public.

0:00 1:09 5:16 fake, didn't work. He literally tells you that he can fake a ban message at 10:09 0:11 8:51 you didn't gain any RP, just lost BE. You can literally see this on screenshot as he has 120 RP only 3:35 he didn't find it himself, his friend did can be seen at 3:49 3:58 was public for a long time on github, and it's denied by Riot, you can't just confirm it because the the rioter didn't know about season end date 6:08 riot doesn't work that quick to patch it in a day. Or 30min, as people have proven that it didn't work 30min after the post 6:36 changing name on a banned or gifting from a banned account has been known for years 6:52 wasn't few days later, but year earlier and it wasn't found by him, you can even dig his original post crediting it to someone else 7:15 - 7:45 and 12:31 all of these been known for at least year or 2. Also changing an icon that noone can see isn't really important 7:45 ancient method that people have been selling for years, been posted on twitter multiple times by numerous people but riot refuses to fix this. Pretty sure people had rank1 flexq on eune using this in season 9 8:22 doesn't work, if you exit a game and queue up next instantly ofc the server won't get end of game result in time, but after some time it fixes itself 9:20 just a bug that was on every account if you got 2 bans at the same time 13:20 known, source released on github for a long time (now patched) Why he didn't get hired/why c&d: Posting mostly fake exploits on Twitter and directing people to his Discord server, where he sold them, essentially causing bad publicity for Riot. At 6:52, he sold these accounts, and apparently later recovered them. Also the custom client, which is a strong no

took me 5 minutes of googling to figure out it was real and people just did it wrong, first result on some sketchy forum and a forum mod explained to them that it actually does work they just did it wrong

He basically did the riot's job for them by showing all the issues that needed to be fixed. Some may be known by the rioter's and some may have come to light because of him. I say just hire the guy and let him fix the issues that he found.

That's not how it works. Hacker usually doesn't want to work for a company, and there are MILLIONS of them all around the globe, they ALL can do what this guy do, he's NOT special. That's why tech companies have "bounty system", where you can get money buy report an exploit, but you have to sign NDA, aka no selling the exploit, as Riot is the ONLY buyer. But this guy broke the NDA, he collected Riot money AND selling the info same time, which is stupid, as now he's facing a legal lawsuit, and being blacklist from ALL tech companies. Not the first hacker do this, and won't be the last.
