Succession needed to go there. This episode was amazing. In order to really explore new storylines HBO had to do this. Loved it.

Regarding Succession, Kendall (Jeremy Strong) trying to setup a conference call was the best part for me. Conference calls is all he knows how to do and when you have no control of a bad situation you do what you know because you’re panicking. Which plays into the rest of this video about studios just recycling what they have.

Love the idea of a news-type show on the channel Dan! I've always enjoyed the smaller one off videos like the Sight & Sound list or Warner/DC videos of the past, I think it makes sense to condense those all into a single video per week that could also hit on more topics. Still feels surreal to be watching this final season of Succession week to week, it's a privilege to be watching one of the best shows I've ever seen with everyone else every Sunday night and they continue to hit the mark every week! I think Harry Potter would work better as an animated show instead of live action. There would be so much more they can do and could serve the usage of magic so well.

Counterpoint on Moana: the 2019 remake of The Lion King didn't do anything unexpected, and also brought back one of the key stars from the original version (James Earl Jones), and it's the ninth-highest grossing film of all time. I'm not thrilled that Disney is already remaking Moana, but if The Lion King is any indicator, then it will likely make a lot of money.

I 100% get the point that Studios should stop remaking their properties so often. On the other hand for years I was saying that the best format for a Harry Potter book adaptation is a TV series where each season tells the story of each book. This is because the films reasonably cut a lot of parts from the books purely because of time. I get that some people might argue that these are details but in reality the bits about the magic lessons, the walks at Hogsmit, Quidich practice etc are the things that flesh out this amazing world and make the Harry Potter series so captivating and interesting. A TV series would allow for these moments and little stories to be seen without dragging the plot. The only problem is that as Dan said the film series ended only like 10 years ago and the cast was so good that it feels weird remaking them now. It would be great if they park this for a bit and release it in 2030 or something like that.

I briefly considered skipping this video entirely, but I had a feeling that you’d provide a way for viewers to avoid any spoilers - and you did! I watch all of the content on your channel and I usually don’t mind getting your full take on things I haven’t seen yet, but I’d prefer to go into that one knowing as little as possible.

In fact, you talk about the Marauders. Always good to remember that theybwere cut from movies too. Is not just SPEW. That were huge and important plot points that were left out. The final confrotation between Harry and Voldermot in the books is one of the best final showdown between hero and villain that I ever read and in the movies it was reduce to a battle between a green beam and a red beam, DBZ style. Maybe if the series is a sucess they can do a Marauders series after they have, you know, actually introduce them to non readers.

Very shocking & well done episode! Brian Cox was recently on the Official HBO Succession Podcast where he confirmed he was only supposed to be in the show for the first season, so we now get to see what the 'succession' battle without Logan really looks like in the remaining 7 episodes of the show! It also feels like The Rock is desperate to get the DCU/Black Adam stink off him by pivoting to his most critically well received project (by both critics & audience) that did well financially and is still a constant juggernaut on the streaming charts! Surprised he hasn't dipped his toe into a Jumanji 3 given how much money the first 2 movies made!

I had started watching Succession, but when I watched this episode of Dan’s, I skipped the spoiler parts and realised I had to hurry and watch the rest so I could hear Dan’s opinion. Today I finally finished it - it was amazing ;) Loved Dan’s coverage of course too.

That Barbie trailer gave me such horror movie vibes. It might have just been the repeating line in the song, but with that and the multiple barbies and kens and the world being mostly made out of toys it just gave me such an eerie feeling that I can't shake

As a man who lost his mother, I was SOBBING during the entire revelation of Logan’s death. Man, did that feel so real.

I keep hearing that the marketing for Barbie is deliberately hiding the deeper messages in the film. I truly wonder if this will end up being a huge bait and switch for the audience, or if we'll get another trailer that hammers home the storyline. Succession has been one of my favorite shows on right now and last night's episode is maybe the best of the show. I predicted that Logan was gonna die by the end of the season but not so suddenly and definitely not so soon. The genius of this is they were setting up a sort of redemption arc between him and the kids where he seemed to be trying to make amends but now that's just done, no resolution. Genius screenwriting and heartbreaking performances all around, truly a great moment in television history.

Dan I loved it when you do these one-off segments for big news or analysis of events in the world of movies! So i think Id be into this! Perhaps instead of calling Mondays with Dan perhaps change it to something that give away you talking about movie news? I'm sure you workshopped a few names and you add more specifics to the title usually, but I think a more descriptive title might serve you better. And not using Monday might help you not feel unncessarily pressured if you end up putting this on something Tuesday because of travel/life. Will be cool to see more of this segment and what it becomes!

This show reminds me a lot of the old Screen Junkies Universe back in the days of SJ News, in a good sense. I think just hearing your thoughts is better than four or five people arguing about little details, and once a week is enough for the real important events.

I've had a lot of close family members and even a friend or two die surprisingly and those shocking calls are traumatic. This episode put me right back there, finding out they died. Extremely well done episode.

I take everything on Disney's investor calls with a grain of salt. That's where we were promised "the best fighter pilot movie of all time". I mean we did indeed get that, but from Paramount, not Disney. I have way more faith in Lucasfilm releasing those three movies because they were announced at Celebration compared to the Moana remake and that's saying something.

I thought the kid’s last words was done really well with Kendall knowing it will be the last time he will ever speak to him and still saying he can’t forgive him

I never thought Succession could make me cry, but then it proved why it's the best show on TV once again. It's funny because Logan's had the health scares before to the point where he seemed almost invincible and then bang, he's just gone. A perfect episode of TV, incredible acting as always, I'll be sad when it's over but happy it happened.

A fun debut. As for suggestions here's a couple- 1. Maybe a specific Q and A section ( #murrellmusings ?) 2. Go retro with some pitch ideas (example - a reboot of Captain N only with more game accurate characters) 3. Like that the streaming and film videos are being separate as the charting videos were getting massive, so makes sense

What I loved about Logan's death is that Logan created this extremely toxic environment/culture for the people around him, but they still had to follow in line behind him or face punishment. Now that he is gone, there are no more rules. All tactics/moves are available to these people and all these characters can now become unhinged to win. The remainder of this season will be brilliant chaos.
