It's a bit funny that for all the impressive and memorable large scale playsets G.I. Joe would end up putting out, this is how it started. Quite the jump from this to something like the Flagg. Or the Terrordrome if you want to go more Cobra specific.

Great review. As a kid I actually had that Fort Apache playset as well as thhe Cape Canaveral one. Both were made od tin and were like suit cases. I spent many a day playing with them until my G.I.Joes came along.

Great review! I bought the 2017 one but I did put out the money for a mm coco lol. Btw I always and will always consider the 86 vipers as cobra marines and the blue shirts grunts.

Ive bought a flagg, defiant, terrordrome, mcc, and general.. Im trying to complete everything from 82 to 90.. This is one thing i cant justify buying, i might have to just go with the 2017 reissue

$1,500 is a bit insane. LMAO. Didn't know there was a 2017 reissue. I'm definitely looking into that (especially if it does not cost $1,500. LOL). Granted, there is a 1982 Command Center being sold on ebay right now for only $600.. but it has a lot of repro parts to it mixed with original parts that the seller is making sure to tell everyone about (which is another reason I don't like about spending so much money of this myself: it's very easy to print off repro parts to this thing. This seller is being honest about it, but you never know about other sellers. While it's easy to tell the real 1982 cardboard pieces from repro cardboard pieces in person, it's very difficult to tell through photos). But that 2017 reissue sounds like a great idea.

UK started with action man action force and the enemy was baron ironblood and the Red Shadows the action force had four sections which were Z force, Q force, space force and The SAS force then we got action force GI JOE love the vids HCC788 thanks 👍👍👍👍👍👍😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

Can't fault them from trying to recapture that magic with that SDCC edition, just wish it wasn't an exclusive..... 😔. Great review Hoodie, it would have been cool having this as a kid, but I didn't even know that Sears had exclusives back then, heck I don't even think we has one near us, Bradley's, Zayre and Child World is all I can remember. Anyway, like I was saying, great review, and WHAT!? Timmer's got the Infinity Gauntlet! Hoodie, round up the troops! YOOOO HOODIE CO COOOOO!.

Hey I remember getting a Sears exclusive Vamp. It actually had the shovel on the hood. You couldn’t remove it but I remember that’s what made it stand out

Never heard of this before. It does remind me of the old Star Wars cardboard sets. It looks cool but too expensive for me. I am trying not to comment more than once per video but I do often watch them multiple times.

As much as I hate Haslabs, I do wish they'd do a plastic and proper 3D version of this playset, with a proper silo missile. I'm sure collectors would love to have that.

Awesome. Mom got this for me for Christmas in 82 or 83. It may have been my first Joe toy, I can't remember. It's one of 2 or 3 times she totally surprised me at Christmas and flipping nailed it! As I recall, it was worn out very quickly, but I think I've still got the figures in storage somewhere.

It doesn't have cobra commander on the file card holder because at the time in 1982 he was a mail away exclusive and exclusive to this set he had no card art at the time.

I was never aware of this as a kid playing with GI Joe. I became aware of this in the 90s when I started to collect GI Joe. I saw it and had to have it. It looks awesome. I paid a pretty penny to acquire one and when I got it, boy was I disappointed. This is by far one of the worst GI Joe playsets. It certainly looks cool in pictures, but in person it just looks like a flimsy piece of cardboard. Luckily, I was able to resell it for what I paid for it. Has anybody else bought this Holy Grail and been disappointed?

A cheap printer scan of one of the seats there would be a neat enough stand in for a 3rd chair. And did the instructions say it was detailed copy of the base? So its not even the real base I guess. Nice review still.

Ironically, most of the value comes from it being so badly made and flimsy. Unlike the more robust playsets and vehicles, I doubt many still exist, let alone undamaged and in one piece. It's very useful that you described in detail the difference between the original and the modern version, because a con artist would otherwise be able to fool a lot of collectors.

According to Kirk Bozigian panel show at Joe Fest the Mickey Mouse symbol was because of them spraying the logo for a supply and demand issue. Who knows , but it was along the lines of the needed to get the commander out in a hurry. Its funny how we are still looking at these different things 30+ years later. But its kind of like a misprint on a baseball card. Interesting stuff.

Back in 06/07 D&J Toys released a Plastic backed version of the base for $70 which is a High quality replica with better materials. It does not fall apart like the cardboard original, and costs no-where near the $1500 as seen on e-bay, so if you are not a purist, that would be a route to go. I am not sure if they are still making them or not, but I had to wait 8 months for mine back in 07, a google search of their name will pull up their website.
