I have Starduster still from when I got him in the late 80s. Pretty sure version 1C but I have the jet pack... I cant recall how I got the jetpack as I never owned Grand Slam. Oh well it was over 30 years ago so maybe a friend gave me the pack.

Excellent review of Star Duster! I have always loved the idea of Jump Jet packs replacing the use of parachutes for my air bourne troops. The mail-away figure from 87 that I manage to have as a young collector was Steel Brigade. I loved the idea of your own custom action figure and writing a file card. Fun features to have while building a collection of any kind.

Nothing really awesome about him, with the right spare parts and some paint you can make your own, hell, you can make your own version of Starduster or any Joe you want! Just hit those spare parts bin at toy conventions and you're set!

I didn't even know about this figure until now. When you showed the catalog. I still have that catalog and remember seen that figure. Since I didn't see it on the cartoons he never caught my attention. To the point I didn't even know he existed. Nice video

Like you I was getting out of JOE at the time he was available. When I started back collecting 3 years ago I thought the price was insane and swore I’d never buy one . At JOEFEST 2018 I bought one for 165 bucks . He is now one of my favorite figs .

I've had Starduster since he came out (1987). I started to seriously get into G.I Joe starting early 1986 (I was a bit too young for G.I Joe from 1982 to 1985, even though I do own a FEW 82 - 85 figures from my youth, but most of my original 82 to 85 figures are missing limbs. LOL). My parents got ALL the mail away figures for me so Starduster was one of them. He's still in GREAT condition and I still have him in a protective clear container on my shelf. I played with him a lot.

I got this figure with the pocket patrol pack, minus the jetpack & file card (1c) in 1989. I think he was the only mail order figure I sent away for.

I begged my mom to get G.I. Joe cereal for weeks straight. She insisted I only wanted it because of the box. I wore her down and she finally bought a box. Though I wouldn’t dare not admit it, it was flat out disgusting. She had a policy that she would not buy a cereal until I finished the current box. The same box of Joe sat on the shelf for maybe two months or three months. She was right.

I had the mail away catalog version of Starduster. I was old enough to recognized he was a cheap figure (all repainted parts), but I always liked him. I think I actually had 1B, as mine definitely had the Duke chest, but I didn’t recall the belt being unusual like Iceberg‘s.

I didnt know they were still selling the cereal in 1987. I remember first seeing the cereal in kindergarten which would have been like 1984 for me and I dont remember seeing it in the grocery store much longer after that. I remember not liking the cereal too much and being disappointed because GI Joe was my favorite cartoon / toy.

You wowed me! I did not even think this fig existed...my ignorance amuses me! I never searched yojoe.com or anywhere else as I too was done with collecting Joe toys by mud to late 1980s. It is rare I can say this, but you schooled me!!!! Great review, very knowledgeable. I have a patron question. You assign code names. I served in the US Navy and have a nickname/call sign everyone knew me as onboard my first boat. Due to the size of the submarine community, it followed me to my first shore duty, then onto my second boat. I never chose it, my supervisor, a senior chief Petty officer, gave it to me. Would that be my codename?
