Crossfire and SLI. Two terms I haven't heard in years, as well a 'Dual' GPUs. I don't see it coming back what with the monstrous increases in TDP of next gen GPUs. Is it still a thing these days?

@@AdmiralBison No it is not a thing, 3090 was the last card that had sli support (even though sli had been "dead" for years at that point)

There was also the HD7990, which was essentially two 7970s in one card, but short of that, this was easily the best on market, beat the GTX680 and was cheaper. I loved mine. The best part was nVidia fans shit canning it, so much copium.

Well old card. Amd has come long way. Now its much better in power consumption than nvidia, and also cheaper while performing better.

@@LiegeMaximo amd and nivida preform better in different games they are neck and neck but amd seems to offer best value compared to nivida now days so it’s usually better just opting for AMD now days.

Actually, it isn't. some of the games tested were from 2015. The GPU market has stalled since 2016. Which is good and bad. GPUs used to age like shit,but nowadays they don't. For example, this GPU was almost the fastest GPU in it's era,except the 7990 which was essentially two 7970 dies in one GPU. The Witcher 3 and GTA V came out in 2015,about 3 years after this GPU was released,and the card can play them,but can't really max them out. The GTX 1080/Ti came out in 2016/2017 and can run 2020 games with EASE and are still pretty relevant in 2022. The Vega 64 is even faster than the GTX 1080 and also came out in 2017. GPUs don't age as fast as they used to,back then a 3 yo midrange card was shit. Nowadays people still run GTX 1060s,1660Tis,for fucking years.

Especially the RTX series,thanks in large part for DLSS. The 2060/2060 super/2070 Level of performance is still considered midrange and can play 1080p games and even 2K without any problem. A GTX 560/Ti /570 in 2013 already fucking sucked. It's actually quite amazing how well GPUs age nowadays.

Probably the Thermal pads weren't the correct thickness or were too hard. It happens, next time try reusing the pads first.

@@kajurn791 I did the research first before buying anything, had to buy some because they tore when pulling the cooler off. I think something cracked due to me torqueing down one or more screws too much, but once it didn't give out any more video signal, I did a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and threw it away

its a 10 year old flagship, if anything the 3080 should draw the same at it stocks clocks, shows how power hungry some of the 3000 series is.

@@yokieaig only partly true, the newer generations are poorly engineered in terms of power efficiency, I get almost the same results with over 100 watts less.

@@drroth88 Yes they push up the power to ensure every card runs stable without issues. Yours is an anecdotal example as not every 3080 can do 100 watts less. This will be the same with the 7970 shown in the video too so not fair to compare.

To be completely fair it's a bit hard going for both intel and nvidia at the same time, but at least they are on par in the CPU world with intel now. Makes a really good healthy competition and we're finally getting competitive performance for competitive pricing there.

7970 GHZ Edition = R9 280x 7950 GHZ Edition = R9 280 The regular 7970 and 7950 came with a lower stock clock speeds..... but these cards can be easily overclocked to the same speeds as the R9 cards.

With oc and cooling= r9 280x, about 10-15% faster, i had one, good card.

@@yancgc5098 Of course, HD 7970 3gb is better than GTX 670/680 2gb version. GTX 680 4gb is better in performance, power consumption, temperature... Can't compare 2gb-4gb or 3gb-6gb. Same thing happen with gtx 960, R9 380,...

Oh Yeah, bad life choice, but on the other hand early 2010s amd drivers were horrible, so theres a big chance you would go for Instant refund anyways.

@@patrickc8007 TMI but I miss those days. I had a 5870 X-Fire setup before that. Yeah, the drivers were a bit difficult to deal with, but they weren't super bad if you found the right one. That was tghe trick.... shopping for drivers. When I upgraded to Sandy Bridge (2600k/ Asus P67 board) back in 2011, I had to try a couple different drivers to get the system to work. Also, if I forgot to disable automatic Windows Driver updates, then Windows update would bork the AMD drivers. (DDU... aka Driver Sweeper as it was called back then.... was a Radeon owner's best friend.) Back then, The trick was to update/install the Radeon drivers and then run a benchmark a couple times. If the scores were off/ not right then Driver Sweeper needed to be run and the drivers needed to be reinstalled. IIRC, I also had to have my monitor plugged into the DVI-D port, and not the HDMI port with my Sandy Bridge system. I can't remember what I did exactly but there was a BIOS setting I had to change to get either 5870 I had to work with the HDMI port. I ended up putting one of the 5870's in my Dad's 2500k/Gigabyte z68 system and he always had trouble with the drivers or shut downs. Then I put the 5870 into my brother's Phenom II x4 system and it was as fine.... no problems. The other card was a GTX 560ti.... which is on par with the 5870... so no-one got downgraded.
