[HD] A New Railroad is Born! First Day on the CPKC in Artesia, MS

The day after CKPC officially began operations, I set out for Artesia to see what had changed. The only noticeable difference, besides a missing KCS sign on the office building, were the new train codes that follow Canadian Pacific's symbol scheme. I caught three trains on the first day, about as much action as you can get in a morning in Artesia. The last train was filmed one month later, featuring a GP38-2 and a GP40-2 going to full throttle to switch the yard. Enjoy!

I'm already seeing increased freight trains on the Milwaukee District North Line where METRA and AMTRAK TRAINS run. I knew the merger meant more freight activity where Canadian Pacific freight trains run which includes wherever METRA Passenger trains run.

Great video. I'm pretty sure I saw one of the Kansas city Locamotives mixed in with a U.P.R.R. Train in the South Salt Lake City Roper yard about a month ago. They are times get rebuilt equipment on its way to other Railway systems passing through or like other's also equipment from railway they have bought up or merged with. The Roper yard used to belong to The Denver and Rio Grande. The train pulled out before I could get a decent picture. I could see the Red Yellow and Black and the Kansas city paint job

VERY NICE !!! Had to check the KCS loco roster for the 2912/2901. Didn't recognize those EMD's as GP-40's even though I knew they had to be modified. Good work !!!

KCS uses a lot of GP40-2lw's in the Artesia area, now I see them as often as standard cabs

I believe this merger is going to increase greatly the number of freight trains wherever Canadian Pacific freight trains run on every line they use including where METRA passenger trains run. This will probably cause to delays to AMTRAK trains as well all in the Chicago Area. Passenger trains of METRA will certainly be delayed and schedules disrupted.

I would imagine so, that train serves a lot of the industries on the Artesia sub. Time will tell..

they couldnt have given it a worse name. A railroad representing Canada and a city in the USA at the same time. very dumb name. And at that i can only imagine the paint scheme will be worse.

I think they tried to pull a BNSF and just concatenate the two names, but I think Burlington Northern Santa Fe as a name works better.

@@trainguy1792 BNSF is my favorite railroad. i was a 1 year old during merger day. But i loved both predecessors and other than H3, i like what they became. They got incredibly lucky at how well their names fit together as one.
